PS games - .99 South Park Nascar Rumble Action Bass Harry Potter - Sorcerer's Stone Parasite Eve Pong the next level I also finally found a PS2 (for $7!), but it sees disc errors on all games and CD's. I guess the drive might be bad. Any known common problems with these things? I'll open it up as it is just caked with dust. -

I hope that was a joke -- Pachinko games of that vintage would only use battery power for a light bulb or two that come on briefly when a goal is hit. Otherwise, they're completely mechanical and will work just fine even without the battery. Not a joke, exactly. Just a case of not knowing. I did some reading, and I see where you're right - that most people just plug in a 9 volt battery to light the lights... it just took me a while to see where the power leads are. It needs a cleaning. and then it can go next to Pac-Man Plus. It came with a number of the metal balls, and there are a ton more inside. I haven't figured out how to free the jackpot, so I guess that I'll just have to win them back! -

A different kind of gaming - I found a Pachinko machine for $20. It's cool looking, but I haven't figured out if it works yet (still trying to work out where the power goes!). The thing is that since it's a gambling thing, it's less interesting at home to play my yourself since nothing is at stake. I guess there's some skill element to it that might be fun. A few weeks ago I found a Pac-Man Plus machine at a Salvation army for $200. It's in awesome shape. Int he couple days it took me to get a truck to pick it up, it made $40! Wish I could have just left it at the Salvation Army as a trickle of extra income. Since Pac-Plus is such a bear of a game, I'm thinking of dropping in some Ms. Pac eproms and replace the marquee. The picture below is where I set it up for playing at our garage sale not long ago. Anyone here that might feel like helping me out with that? I guess that with all the arcades closing, maybe more stand-ups are going to start showing up in thrifts? That is so weird... -

I have the Miracle keyboard, and the carts for both NES and SNES, but I've never found the special cables to connect it to either system. One of these days I guess that I'll have to find the pinout and make my own... I don't really even know how fun it is. I already play piano, so I'd just be wanting to see how those systems teach kids to play. Gotta be better than Melody Blaster for the Intellivision II keyboard! -

I'm planning on swinging by this year Dan... looking forward to it. Wish that I had my stuff organized enough to get a table!

I have one that I'm planning on selling. My girlfriend and I accidentally each bought one (and payed extra money to get it)... so I want to get rid of this extra one. If you're interested, LMK. I just want to get back what I paid for it. Having said that, the one that we do have is really fun! It's the only exercise program I've stuck with.

@moonsweeper - that's an awesome deal! I didn't even know that Yobo was making a Genesis clone. Cool! COngrats on that deal - that's kind of what I think that NES games should cost anyway... Gone are the days of getting 2600 games for a quarter a throw. Anyway here are my meager findings: Bandai super controller - joystick snap-on for NES controller - 2x .50 ea. Playstation games at a buck a piece complete: Ready2Rumble Boxing Test Drive 5 Frogger Namco Museum 3 Pac Man World Pong: The Next Level the following were $1.50 Final Fantasy VIII Galerians Parasite Eve I also got a stack of magazines from the 60's aimed at musicians who play Banjo/mandolin/guitar. Amazing kitschy stuff there. Just had to mention it. -

Quick visit to the thrift yielded a Commodore 1702 monitor (my favorite monitor!) for $6, one of those Fisher Price movie viewer things )though this has a built in screen and can project on the wall) for $4, and an awesome silver boombox with a crazy huge dial tuner for the radio. It seriously looks like someone took the FM dial off of a home stereo and put it on this thing. $4 for that. Not much in the way of gaming, but plenty for my retro lifestyle! -

God, I feel so jaded. One of the first finds I ever had when I really started collecting games in earnest in the early 90's (I never stopped buying Atari games since they were out, and I'd bought a couple other systems for pennies, bit this is when I decided to go whole hog...) was a boxed Odyssey 1 with the rifle. Then not long after that I found another odyssey 1 in the carrying case with all the accessories. I had no idea that these things were rare for years! I paid $2.50 for the boxed set, and about $6 for the carrying case one (it was in a plastic bag at the thrift with some infant blocks. I just re-donated the blocks as soon as I exited the store. I've since added some of the stand-alone expansion games that came in the long boxes. I don't remember the last time that I powered it up. It'll be pretty funny to see if those overlays fit on my LCD television. -
I just got a Pac-Man Plus a few weeks ago. It had to go right into storage as I had to make room for it at the house. I'm picking it up this weekend and I'm going to set it up at my garage sale to try to make a little money. Best part is that the cabinet is in outstanding shape (at least as far as I can tell). I'll probably pop some Ms. Pac-Man roms in there (as soon as I figure out where to get them!). I actually found it at the Salvation Army for $200! I've gotta decide whether I'm keeping it, or selling it. Maybe someone will make me a nice offer at the garage sale. Any ideas what something like this might be worth?

There are a lot of rally great games for Dreamcast - many are very creative and unusual... especially toward the end when Sega was willing to try anything. The ability to easily run homebrew code is really nice too of course. I walked into a Gamestop when they were clearing out their used units for $7 each, so I took all they had. That way I've got some backups so I'll always be able to play my favorite games. Now if I could only find that broadband adapter for no damn good reason at all... -

I guess this cheap score will offset the Wii Fit I bought last week. Can't believe that I found one at retail on the day they came out. I guess I've still got the magic. ;D -

Xbox for $6. The dvd drive is broken, but I think that I have some spares... Boots up, so I'm suspecting that it'll work fine (though some of the dashboard animations are a bit jerky. I wonder if one can defrag an Xbox drive?). If it works, then I'm going to try softmodding it. Game Cube with LCD screen, rechargeable battery pack (non functional, but I can solder new batts in), 2x controllers, army men game, smash brothers melee & one more title. All for $15. -

I love 3D stuff, and today I got the "extreme 3D system" from Nvidia. It's a pair of 3D shutter glasses and about 15 3D games. It's from '02, but doesn't look used at all. Fortunately I still have a CRT monitor on my main computer, so I'll be able to goof around with this. I've got the LCD glasses for the Amiga, but they're the size of ski goggles. These are slick... I'll hook it up just as soon as I can crawl around behind the computer to hook em up to the serial port. There's apparently a way to watch TV with these too (though I know it won't yield real 3D of course...). Not bad for $4. -

Wow. What's with all the boxed games this week? Awesome! I never intended to collect boxes, but I was looking through my stuff and I have a mess of 'em. This summer's goal is to sort through my gaming stuff, which is going to kind of be a nightmare... but I'll find where I've got the boxes scattered all around. then the tough part will be deciding whether to hang onto all that stuff, or convert it into some much needed cash. Mostly I've got 2600 boxes that are in okay shape, but I've got something like 40 NES boxed games in almost new condition. That's got to be worth some scratch. Anyway congrats to us all on our boxed game finds this week. Hope that we all get to keep 'em. -

I says right under my picture - Chicago, IL! I don't go to any one place... I just hit a couple thrifts every week. The key is to go consistently and to find thrifts with high merch turnover. I've never had success with flea markets and pawn shops, so I don't even bother. -

Intellivision carts with overlays are great and all, but I wish that it were Vectrex with overlays. Heck - just overlays would be fine! I doubt I'll ever see one of those systems at the thrift! I tested out the Playstation and it works great. I don't know if I've ever picked up a bad PS. I do have a couple bad Dreamcasts that I've found over the years... I guess they must be a bit more fragile. A shame too - I love that system! Damned moving parts. -

I've got one of those - those are more aimed at broadcast TV & industrial uses. hence the RF + plenty of great inputs. That big multi pin olive colored socket is for 3/4" video decks. I use mine with the Amiga, but it's a great classic gaming unit as well. Gorgeous tube in there for nice tight precise displays. Congrats! -

I guess that I'm the only guy who's had no problems with the NEX. I've got the FC Twin as well (I reviewed it on Retro Thing a while back) and had great success with it - I just really wanted S-video on it. Since my original SNES has that, I really wanted it for my clone system too. I'm really interested in the Retro Duo, and I like what I'm hearing here. Though there is that dual system that's NES & Genesis built into one. Hmm... Thanks for all the reviews, guys!
