  1. Hi folks, please excuse my absence for a long time. Real-life and health issues keep me away from all forums. It´s always a safe way to contact me by email - look to my avatar. Thanks, Jurgen

Hi Jurgen, glad to see you are still around.  I hope you are well.  Thanks for the update.

  2. It's almost time to start cutting the grass again.  :(

That time has arrived already here in the deep south.  :(

I put it off as long as possible, but there was a tall weed explosion.  Sad thing is, actual grass was still short, only the weeds had a rapid growth spurt.  All it takes a a few warm days and a dump or two of hard rain.

  3. So I spotted a loose PlayStation 3 in the garbage room. No cables or peripherals, and it was placed on top of the barrel for leftover cooking oil.

I had a curious look at it but no, I didn't pick it up. Something tells me if one of my neighbours dumps a PS3 in the garbage room, it has serious errors to begin with.

I found one in a thrift store last year that looked like hell.  Bought it for a few dollars without the ability to even test, no power cable.  Got it home and plugged it in....blu-ray drive didn't work.  Took the whole console apart and cleaned everything, new paste on heat sinks etc...  Put it all back together and everything worked, including the disc drive.  There is always a chance.  It depends on how much time you have to waste on such things and if you have a need for any parts, in case that one is damaged beyond repair.

  4. Remember when you could buy video game consoles in stores?

I remember Children's Palace here in Alabama!  Got my first Scott Adams Quest Probe games there.  Such better times, unlike this hellish dystopia the world has become. :(

@ClassicGMR  I thought the same thing!  LOL.  I'll bet Jinks wishes it has been a joke too, instead of painful reality!  Wishing him well in any event.

Wow.  Seems like there is zero transition these days.  Season changes like someone throwing a switch.  Here in the southeast,  summer mosquitoes freeze in mid-air and drop to icy ground.  I would enjoy a nice long fall or autumn or whatever we used to call it.

Fast forward over 5 months later: Cheap paper plates are somewhat scarce and Lysol disinfectant spray (+generic brands) are still extremely hard to find.

What is a lifelong germaphobe to do in these <gaghh> "uncertain times" ???

  8. So, no looking it up or posting the answer: How many know what the SD is SD card stands for?

I had to finally look it up.

    1. RodLightning

      RodLightning

No comment on SD, as there is no way to prove it wasn't looked up.  I remember the earliest ones in that form factor lacked the write protect switch and were called MMC.  Any takers on that one?  I also prefer the name TF card, trans-flash used for micro SD.  TF seems to be used more by asian vendors.  Makes more sense to me than saying micro SD.

  9. Big Wheel or Green Machine?

I went through two Big Wheels as a kid. Had a Green Machine, but it was nearly impossible to get going off road.  Big Wheel for the win.

They really were/are hell weren't they?  The earlier ones with physical jumpers on the board are the worst without proper documentation.

  12. Aaaand my drug dealer neighbor across the street continues to pretend life is normal. Traffic from the ghetto comes and goes. He lives with two elderly women, his aunt and one of her friends. He needs to fucking die.

@eddhell  It's Trailer Park Boys everywhere these days.  My local area was fine 10 years ago.  Ghetto drug culture is growing, and coming to a neighborhood near you!  LOL  :)

I sympathize...got one living next door to me. Same scenario here.  Sickening how they often live off of old women to keep their store front going.  Police are aware and do nothing about it.  I gave up complaining 2 years ago. Covid times seem to be good for business.

Tumeric is great and does work better for me than aspirin.  I put the ground spice on my food regularly.  I don't really like the taste.  Maybe pill form would be better.  Some people believe it is a magic bullet for all ailments.

The older LGA775 fans and sinks seemed to be slightly better made than what they currently produce.

Thanks. Useful indeed and bookmarked.  However, the mystery of proper semicolon usage continues to be a puzzle to me.
