Do you need mod chips for this or does it just work?

Review:
I quite enjoyed the book. The earlier chapters were better than the later chapters. Towards the end, the authors seemed to have lost their focus, particularly during the Empire Strikes Back chapter, where the topic of conversation changes repeatedly without any real rhyme or reason. That chapter started out very promising, and then just fell apart into a discussion of a bunch of unrelated topics.
Still a good read. Solid B

Hiya,I just put in my order. Any chance that this could do s-video output? I ask because I may be using this as part of a project for broadcast. I'd like to get the best possible picture. There are some mods out there for component too, which would be even nicer!

Thanks for creating these boards. I can hardly wait to play nice clean Colecovision!

Yep. It's not many. I'm not worried about it. Just letting people know it's more than they might think. It is a good deal, if it works
i figured "kit" meant "pieces" but i'm okay with that, too. we built three or four kits a million years ago in vocational electronics, it'll be like having a flashback.
besides, if pieces = cheaper then i'm all for it.

Got mine. It's a nice setup. I wasn't anticipating pieces, but I can certainly handle that.
I didn't get documentation - is this updated with latest (to account for the white/red issues)?

Ordered 1. Glad the price is so fair.

One thing you could do to help everyone is offer "first class" shipping on this instead of Priority. The PO overcharges so much for essentially the same service. And, since the item is so light, it'd cost $2 or less instead of $6.

In for 1. There's places much cheaper than amazon. Google shopping can be your friend.

I am a little late to this thread, but I'd certainly love to find a PSX emulator of an Atari emulator (disk image (easier) or way to setup (I am capable)). I have a PSX (chipped) and a PS2 (not chipped), so PSX is my only option. I found PVCS, but the web site is dead (and that's PS2 only).
Anyone who can help - thanks!!!

EVERY Atari 2600 game can be faithfully reproduced and released on a single CD for a PSx or Xbox etcHave you ever tried to play Starmaster on a Playstation? The game was definately not made for those controllers.
Therefore, if the gameplay is the same and the graphics are better, isn't the system a better system? The gameplay is not necessarily the same due to the difference in controllers. Some games were made for joysticks while others were made for paddle controllers and don't work well with the playstation controllers. Since all the newer game systems have similar controllers I think they would all have this problem.
True... but if there was a market for it, they would release a joystick adaptor for the new systems. Problem is there is not enough of a market for it

My speculation is that he's just keeping track of the number of sprites on a row. The TI graphics chip, as others alluded to can only display 4 sprites per row. The higher number sprites disappear, rather than just flicker. What they must be doing is swapping the sprites around so that sprites take turns being the lowest # sprites.
This work would be done in the "NMI" (Non Maskable Interrupt) that occurs while the screen is refreshing... Which would manage the timing concerns "for free". Thus, we have a relatively low expense to the coder - since the cycling always occurs - and would ordinarily have no visible impact unless the feature is required. The only real side effect is that you wouldn't be able to tell which ghost is "on top".

I started this post because of something at the AGH.The simple number of a CV processor is roughly twice that of the 5200's. But they are different processors, so the number is not all there is to it.
In short, AGH implied that it was like two people unloading a truck: one moves twice as fast, but the other can carry twice as much. Thus, the same amount of work is done.
But for Opcode's (and Atarisoft's) "flicker" method, it would seem as though speed would be the main factor. The faster you can flicker-alternate the images, the better the composite character would look. For maze games, or games like Q*Bert or Mr. Do!, the CV would have a tremendous advantage, although I'd imagine that with scrolling games, like Moon Patrol or Snap Jack (esp. if you wanted smooth horizontal scrolling), where the processor would be slowed down due to the extra work, the method might not work as well.
Is this the case?

This was one of Sean Kelly's very early batches and has a big pile of games on it. Basically all of them.
I remember there are a game or two that are broken - as it was such an early version.
It's been a few years since I used it - and I no longer have my 5200s.
$125 shipped - and yeah, I'll take offers...
Thanks - Howie

call me the spoiler, but I'm way more interested in the Flashback 3 than this....
I build my own joysticks out of arcade components...

If you can scan and post any documentation or manuals that would be awesome, also, if you do list it on ebay or something, send me a link or post it here, I'll gladly bid on an original copy. That I can do... If I don't get around to it soon enough... let me know...
-
I've got a copy (if not 2) of WtW... The original and then the one that came with the Cuttle Cart. Buried somewhere.
I guess I should sell them... Maybe I'll find them and put an ad up.

Not sure this is the correct forum, so move it as you wish...
the trackball usually costs 99.95, on sale for 69.95 + $20 rebate....
Smokin deal. If you look at their parts section they charge $59 for just the trackball.
Enjoy!

Check out these sites:
and, some TI remakes!!!

Target in Reston VA had 2 left after I exchanged for one (to get rev b).
-
I exchanged mine... A few things to note:
1. the color/bw problem seems better with rev b on my tv
2. the speech in quadrun is a huge disappointment, from what was advertised in Atari Age magazine....

It's all been grabbed - thanks.
-
Well, I wanna hack-i-fy it too, so, thought I read that rev b easier... not much, but whatever...
Sounds good to me Lord Helmet! Thanks! In any event, I have a lot of flickering in Asteroids Deluxe as well. I wrote about my concerns in the thread I posted called "Atari for Christmas...25 years later!"I really don't want to have to bother with exchanging it.
Don't exchange it. If you got voice in Quadrun, you have a Rev B. The flicker and jumpy screen in Space Duel and others is a part of both Rev A and Rev B.
-
Just hooked mine up.... I've got numerous issues:
1. No quadrun voice
2. tons of flickering in space duel, asteroids deluxe, Yars returns..
Interestingly if I hook up to my projector in the basement, it's slightly better...
I suppose I've got Rev A... Is there a detailed list of fixes for Rev B?
My sister got this at walmart for me - wonder how she got a rev A so late...
Thanks - Howie

Hi! question about the Atari - Jr. Pac-Man discovered!
in Atari 7800

Wow. This game is pretty damn good. I noticed a few things:
1. The ghosts bunch up a bit - they don't have different minds.
2. Game froze after completing the first level.
