  1. Interestingly the video mod does not require soldering!

The best way I can describe the poor video quality is in terms of "noise". For example, where there should be a big solid red square on the screen, it's a big red snowstorm in the shape of a square. The colour is not solid, but it looks like it's micro-dancing like noise within it.

Maybe I should try the video mod. :)

    That's a good idea. ;)

  2. For a while there, you could find a "ripoff" prototype version for less than the actual cart. Best Electronics put some shady carts together back in the day and sold them off. If you just want a cart but don't care about authenticity (in other words, yes its an Atari board in an Atari case but maybe not on a ROM; intsead on 2 4K PROMS) you can get one around pretty cheap. At least you could a few years back. I know those are still trolling the community....

Nah, I'd like an original. Just a cart. I really don't care to much about the box, Manuals, or any special flyers that came with it. Takes up too much space. I like to keep things condensed.

Well if you really want one, here is a loose cart that someone has up for auction right now. :)

    I stretched it another 25 bucks. I GOT ONE!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Thanks, I've been watching it. Just waiting to see how high it gets. Hopefully not to high. I'm looking at around the $150 or so range. After that I've got some explaining to do. If you know what I mean.SSHHHHH. :-o

Congrats on the purchase. $173.35 That is the lowest price I have seen this game go for in good condition. You know 6 years ago this game loose in the same condition would of gone for $500 easy.

    Thanx. I was a little surprised myself. WOO HOO!!!!!! :D :D :D

  4. Some of the bigger head scratchers I see as prices for the guide are these

    Pepsi Invaders $200

    Video Life $500

    Tooth Protectors $200

Like I said, their prices are from 1998. Prices on things were very different back then and nobody really knew what was crazy rare back then...some stuff was overpriced and some was highly underpriced. Video Life was not considered the holy grail it is now. Go back and read old posts from years back on RGVC and see what prices people were offering for stuff back then.

    Agreed!

  5. 45 watchers and no players. Featured on Gamesniped too which helped the traffic. I am surprised it didn't get a bid, but like others have said, most of the big collectors have picked this game up at one time or another, or maybe they're saving for some nice boxes. An open offer for $1k stands for the next week or so if anyone wants it. I have 2 people that contacted me about buying it outside of ebay so I'll see what they have in mind.

    PM sent.

  6. I really think many people with 1k to spend on a single Atari game are getting pickier. While Wonder is waiting for one with a "mint" box many others are just waiting for ones with boxes. I often hear "If I'm gunna spend that kinda money I'll wait till I find a complete copy" for this and other uber rares like Eli's Ladder.

Well said. I think it would be better to have some documentation if you are willing to spend that much on one game. On the other hand there are quite a few impulse buyers that just can't wait. I'm kinda in between. I can wait if I wanted to but usually I don't. I waited on this one until next time. I wonder if he might have some documentation on this cart. If not then a shielded PCB it is. I do believe it is authentic though. The year of the copyright on the board was C 78. That's the 4k board they used. Hard to fake that one.

  7. I was so tempted. I just don't have it right now. I gotta get rid of some stuff first. I hope he puts it on again soon. I should be able to possibly bid. Don't know though. Bills eat me up. X-mas is comin. Maybe if he puts it on I'll ask this to be my X-mas Gift...................There's an idea. I too was very surprised it didn't sell. Maybe some just didn't think it was a REAL Cart. Looked real to me. Only one Prom, not your usual two 4k eprom board for your typical repro's. :|

  8. Hi,

I (noob) just recently got into building up a 2600 collection and was just wondering what are some important reasons to get doubles? Not including those rare valuables - obviously want as many 10's as you can find. What do you do when you come across another game you already have for example combat, pass it up or snatch it up? why?

First and foremost. I would read as much about the games and keep an eye on the forums to see what might be worth your while when purchasing. Boxed games, if you are willing to spend more, manual with game, might spend a litlte more, Cart only is the way to go for me. For others that might not be thier cup of tea but I find it easier to just look for the cart. This can be a very expensive hobby or be a very informational hobby. Some don't even collect hard to get games. They sure know what it's worth and how it plays though. Find yourself a STELLA atari emulator and get to know the various games. Lot's of titles to learn. Just don't dig too deep at first, unless your pockets are DEEP!

  11. I played 1 game last night, got most of the way up the 4th building. The kid still has it!! :D :D 216,200.

I really played it again to refresh my memory of how they did the game using just one joystick. I was thinking about doing an Astrocade homebrew of this game, but I don't think I'd want to do it using this 1-joystick technique, it was just not as enjoyable. I thought of using rubber-bands to hold 2 astrocade controllers together for the arcade-style controls, but these controls really are meant to be held in one hand (with the trigger) and have the other hand move the joystick, and it didn't feel right. So for now I don't think this project will ever get started.

Sounds like a challenge. I think you could pull it off. ;)

  12. :_( WHAT A MESS. I to understand what has transpired. When exactly did you find out after you paid her that it had been sold to someone else. There is such a thing as a stop payment if you do it within 24 hrs. of payment. I had a similar problem once. They decided that they didn't get enough for what they sold. Tried to ask for more money. I stopped payment and they got nothing. They are gone of eBay now thankfully. I feel you man. Good luck!

  13. I notice that every hobby has a top ten list of prices paid for games except this one. I decided to change that by making this list. :)
