ManCave Awesome 'Den of Doom', the ultimate place to while away hours with classic games. The cabinets are gorgeous, wish I had room for something like that. I need a basement! I see bfstats got the other Tooth Protectors box. Did it go on your famous 'Wall', D? The boxes are better than what I made back in the day, keep up the good work, Boxman! G

Okay Wiz...whas you up to? I still have a box of Berzerk/SuperBreakout/PacMans, maybe 100. Got my e-mail addy? G

What happens when this generation is finished?
TunnelRunner replied to Elerach's topic in Atari 2600
A kingdom for a look on your collection........... Thanks for the compliment. It's not Marco Kerstens huge, but still sizable (just over 1500). No room to walk about! Much of it original owner. -
This was submitted to my web site: SN T0002030. It was made in Taiwan. Aaron Fry, Lancaster, Pennsylvania Another of those wacky Taiwan heavies (he sent a pic...it's heavy).

What happens when this generation is finished?
TunnelRunner replied to Elerach's topic in Atari 2600
"Most people that grew up with Atari are in their 30's to 50's right now and Atari will hang on still for quite a while. But by the time the Atari reaches 100 years old, the interest in the console would be quite diminished indeed and may be relished by the die hard gamer that has to play everything, or those who keep, play the game for historical significance. Anyway, that is just my 2 cents on the subject. Geo Well, from another Geo (hello fellow G) I have to agree that the interest 100 years AB (After Bushnell) will be minimal at best, relegated to those who find an old working system in their great grandparent's storage. I grew up on board games and bike riding, years before Atari even existed. But once I got hooked that was it. That, however, is just me. Classic video games, for me, represent a very good time in my adult life. Later, when eBay became a force in bringing these old games back into the light, I got back into the hobby with a vengeance. It made me happy to hold onto these old toys because they were a happy relic of my past that I could share with others. But once this latest generation gives up their old Ataris and Intellivisions and Colecovisions, etc. then that will be it. I see many of my fellow collectors liquidating their collections to pay bills. A sad commentary on the world today, to be sure. The day may yet come for me when I will pass along my collection to others who are a couple decades younger (the VCS came out when I was 20). The torch will be passed to the last generation. So bask in the glow of Pac Man and Robot Tank and Pitfall Harry and Q*bert while you can. Take care of those old carts, my young padawans. Many hours of joy invested. G -
5200 Star Wars Return of the Jedi for $90.00?
TunnelRunner replied to phaxda's topic in Auction Central
Yeah, a real letdown of a game...I spent twenty years in getting one CIB. And I was asking a lot less for my extra cart...anyone need one for half this? -
OMG! DiCaprio to star as Nolan Bushnell!
TunnelRunner replied to Gregory DG's topic in Classic Console Discussion
He is a good actor(The Departed, Blood Diamond) but somehow I just can't see him in this. I don't know who else to cast but I just don't see him in it. Doesn't matter, I'll definitely go see the movie anyway. And we'll tap Matt Damon to play Al Alcorn, and Ben Affleck to play Steve Jobs and Albert to play Woz....oh oh, time for my pill. Take two Asteroids and call me in the morning, friends! -
Hey, Sebastien! Good to see your name out there, it's your old pal George from California. I just found this thread by accident, and a happy one it was too! G

ya no sh*t. kids... Yeah, kids! Whippersnappers! Hey, I wore my Atari tee shirt under a sportcoat to a party and got laid (oops, sorry. There are kids here, right?).
-
That's pretty cool. There's always something that can bridge the gap between generations. Between the late boomers and Gen X there's video games. I made a friend at the local Souplantation just by wearing a DK Country tee shirt. And the whippersnappers here at work were amazed when I brought in a heavy six and Asteroids. Now you can talk shop with teach! (Hey, they might even cruise AtariAge!) Take two Asteroids and call me in the morning. Geo

Jeez, Cassidy, you really dated yourself there. I'll bet you remember black and white TV, and Winky Dink screens, and watching the dot disappear when you turned off the set (remember when we called them 'sets'?). And hello from a fellow geezer! Take two Asteroids and call me in the morning! Geo

Which Atari 2600 game is the the best programming feat?
TunnelRunner replied to Dino's topic in Atari 2600
Amen..testify! Tunnel Runner is STILL creeepy. But Pitfall 2 is up there, along with Robot Tank. Take two Asteroids and call me in the morning. Geo -
If you think about it, the boxes and manuals often have more of the story to them than the game. They are the appetizers, the warm up and reference material for the actual games. The manuals for 5200 Fractalus and Ballblazer are pretty damned entertaining on their own, and I'd recommend them to anyone who loves those games as I do. Plus the boxes allow you to shelve the games so you can see them as you walk by, which then leads to you picking one out and...there goes an hour! Take two Asteroids and call me in the morning. Geo

And from the Atarihead who started the Stella List back in '99.... One recently acquired boxed heavy, S/N 36834G The box, BTW, has the silver lettering on it. I never figured that one out. Comments? Geo

Hey, Pretty cool. But you forgot the steering wheel that Dan Kramer said he was working on. Allan Alan, As many times as I've let Dan bend my ear (and I say that with love, Trak Ball Man! ) he's never mentioned a steering wheel. But that 5200 Trak Ball is maybe the best Atari hardware ever! Geo

Death Star Battle here, throw in box and manual. Make an offer, Jedi!

Wow, Gus...heavy stuff. I won't argue your opinion, previous generations did (inadvertantly) leave a mess for us. We as a race just didn't know any better, any more than we knew eggs and bacon every day would clog our arteries or Sugar Smacks and Cap'n Crunch would make us diabetics. In defense of the boomers, to which I belong, we do have some unique problems. We are the first generation required to maintain competitive careers while simultaneously caring for both our parents and our children. We are worried that SS will evaporate just as we get to the window, and our 401(k) will be sucked up by this crazy market, that we will never get to retire. I never worried about arthritis or bifocals until I was in my forties, and now they are facts of life. And I agree on the Gen X moniker... a dumb title. And I agree 100% on the 5200, it's still my favorite of all time. Big, beautiful, space-age, like an Eldorado Cadillac with a full tank of gas and the top down.

Great game, Mr. B. Thanks for the many spooky hours! Geo (old oldschool gamer!)

"The 7800 was developed rather quickly with cheapness in mind. GCC knew Atari would be cheap so they cut out a lot. I'm not sure about the 5200 being more expensive than the 7800 to make. They certainly had a good many years to stream-line the original multi-boarded 800. Although it's much harder to stream-line a board with all the chips the 8-bit had. I know Atari was working on combining a number of them. Again check Curt's site. Allan Cheapness, that's Atari. Had Atari's deal with Nintendo gone thru the 7800 may very well have had the NES for guts instead of what GCC came up with. They were loooking at putting the Nintendo Entertainment chipset into the housing that was used for the 2100 (later the 2600 Jr.). Now there's a project for someone with some time on their hands! Atari was being cheap in dragging it's feet with the NES vs GCC chips, and videogame history would have been profoundly different had they bought the NES. g

Made me smile, too. But then I have to CLIMB OVER that same pile every day in my 'apartment of anarchy! BTW, I'll snap pics of the missing ones (I believe I have most if not all). Even Koffi...

"Keep playing...the Home World is near!" (actually it never was!) Cool idea, Curt.

Wow, that's incredible...you don't date much, do you? Seriously, hat's off to your persistance!

Actually I believe someone posted a link to the Stalla's Boneyard list on the first page of this thread. I knew it wasn't the first list to be made, but I thought it would be nice to have a list based here to easily keep track of and easily update. This is an ideal place for such a list because of the traffic here, as you could probably tell from the long list of Heavies we have accumulated. Feel free to take the info on our list and use it on your own if you want. Thanks, I'll update the list. By all means, friends, let's make AA the home of the Stella registry. Glad someone took up the cause. I just found the first few pages, there are a number of refs to Stella's Boneyard. Please add mine to the list here, and I'll forward the ones folks have submitted since my page was updated (the web host can't be reached, but the page is still up!). And while you're at it maybe AA can host PAM and MARIA s/ns as well. The ported 7800 is pretty much the 'heavy sixer' of it's day, agreed? Carry on, Wester. Good job!

What 2600 Game Would You Like To See Ported To The 5200?
TunnelRunner replied to TunnelRunner's topic in Atari 5200
Okay Ron, there's a project for you! Actually, I asked HSW if he would be interested in working on such a project with a new-age 5200 programmer. He seemed genuinely interested. I don't think he's seen this thread, but he'd get a kick out of how many said "Yar's".
