GODZILLA! Programmers please read.
godzillajoe replied to neotokeo2001's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
I don't see game play footage, I see screen shots. -
These were released in 1988. Super Baseball just seems like a graphics updated version of RealSports Baseball while Super Football is a whole new game. But all four were listed in the catalogs Is there a story here? Why two football games and two versions of essentially the same baseball game?

Love the port of Zaxxon. It could have used some polishing though. I like the way they changed the perspective. The sprite scaling is awful though. But I appreciate the effort.

So I have a pile of old AtariAge magazines. In one of them, they mention that this is an upcoming arcade port. What game was it?
-
When will we see the gameplay?

Any 2600 titles from back in the day still impressive?

Just screwing around playing random games, Pigs in Space has some really nice animation and Oink! has some large and well drawn characters. That game needs a bonus round where you can drop bricks on the wolf's head. Would have been so satisfying and a nice break from the repetitive gameplay. -
I would say many of the ports WERE great. Even the bad ones were decent when you were 12 and hanging out with your friends. We played the hell out of all of them The later ones were better, of course And you can't compare the new home brews, they don't have 6 weeks and a boss breathing down their neck. Let's pick an arcade game, give Nathan or someone 6 weeks to get it done and bug him about it every day and see what he comes up with!

This isn't meant to be another "because who the hell tested Pac-Man?!" type thread but as someone who does QA and software automation for a living, I'm just curious. Or did the developer essentially test his/her own code? What was the common practice in the industry back in the day

arcade games from 1979 that would be fun on 2600

I would also have to say Millipede. It's a game I thought would NEVER exist on the 2600. Stargate is another that impressed me back in the day and still does. But I hate the two joystick thing so I hardly ever play it. Wish you could use the keypad for the second controller Some Activision games like Barnstorming and Sky Jinks still impress me because the graphics are so nice. The little touches like the pilot's scarf flapping in the breeze in BS or the shadows in SJ. Nice attention to detail. But a lot of Activision games were impressive because they were smart enough to design to the system's strengths and not just do arcade ports. At least not direct ports as Megamania is essentially Astro Blaster. -
Was this real or just a recent hoax/joke? http://instagram.com/p/ncadLdQayN/

Loon is much more diplomatic

Fix it and release 1.1. This one's pretty awful. Sorry.

I love people like this. I get it all the time on LAST.FM Hi, I noticed you listen to <band x> can you zip up all the MP3's you have by them and put it somewhere I can download it? Thanks. Face. Punch. -
Not feeling the love. Ditch the Fast Food idea and turn it into a new game. Candy Hearts or something. Start a Valentine's Day cart tradition! Maybe you have to catch the candy hearts and avoid the poison ones. Every once in a while something like a rose pops up that you HAVE to grab or all the hearts turn poisoned for a few seconds and you then have to go into avoidance mode.

Oh yeah, kinda. Haven't played Taz in ages.

Monaco GP could probably be done. Activision's Grand Prix is sort of a sideways version. But missing a few elements such as the cars don't zig zag, the ice, tunnels, police cars, fire trucks and ambulances. -
Oh and make the food come from both directions.

Maybe too much going on here but another obscure Nintendo game, Sheriff http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUPaB0zizoI -
Ack. Dunno what happened. I was gonna say move in different patterns, like zig zags and stuff.
-
If you're just gonna remake the same game with different food, what's the point? The only upgrades I can think of are making the food move in Ha, never played it until now. Buy Jello. http://atariage.com/hack_page.html?SystemID=&SoftwareHackID=32

We need Food Fight for the 2600! More food games!

Except it's not a game

I think Demolition Herby is a great game and deserves better.
