  1. It was 1977 and you got to be Captain Kirk. As a kid, how awesome is that?
  2. How many of these were released already for the 2600, 5200, O2, Coleco, INTV etc? None of them. 10-Yard Fight Baseball Clu Clu Land Donkey Kong Jr. Math Duck Hunt Excitebike Golf Gyromite Hogan's Alley Ice Climber Kung-Fu Mach Rider Pinball Stack-Up Super Mario Bros. Tennis Wild Gunman Wrecking Crew How many of these were? A whole lot. Asteroids Centipede Desert Falcon Dig Dug Food Fight Galaga Joust Ms. Pac-Man Pole Position II Robotron: 2084 Xevious I guess the point I was trying to make is what was the incentive to buy the system to get yet ANOTHER version of a game you've been playing 1979-82? And I was off by a few years on some of them (Tetris etc.) but again that was a NEW game. You could say "mom, I want a NES so I can play Tetris" and you might get one. "Mom I want an Atari so I can play Ms. Pac-Man" would likely be met with "You already have an Atari with Ms. Pac-Man" So IMO, Atari screwed up by not being a little more daring up front. And yeah they ROYALLY screwed up by not working overtime to produce some quality games for "round 2" No one bought a NES to play Ms. Pac-Man. They may have picked up a copy at a later time because they liked the game but NES was new and shiny, with the robot and the gun while Atari was Atari with Asteroids and Centipede. I grabbed a 7800 because I wanted Xevious, Galaga and Food Fight. All new games.
  3. So I get what it's doing but why wouldn't you just do STA ram_BE instead of STA ram_BD,X Why bother with X and doing the "add"
  4. Thanks AMax, I looked at a couple last night. That will be a good resource. Maybe go back through the Newbies programming tutorial if I can find my hard copy. Let's see what trouble I can get into today!
  5. Cool, I *think* that makes sense. That's for tomorrow. And thanks for the encouragement loon!
  6. So here's another question, I'm poking around in Stampede! and I see that lives are stored in ram_BE but looking at the code I don't see that "defined" anywhere (if that's the right term) How does that value of "3" initially get set when you hit reset. I see where it gets INC and DEC when you gain or lose lives but not that I might have missed it since my eyes are starting to glaze over. Gotta say, it weirdly makes more sense this time. Gonna see if I can dig up some old code examples I got to compile 2 years ago and if I can make heads or tails of them again Fun stuff!
  7. Thanks, I figure start small. I'll take a look at the links provided
  8. I know there were a few commented disassemblies floating around a while back. Does anyone remember what they were of if they're still out there in the ether somewhere. Do they exist for something simple like Stampede! or Laser Blast? I wanna jump back into this after 2 years away. Essentially start over. Are people still using DASM? I should probably update that since it's so out of date. Assuming it was updated in that time.
  9. I think original titles were more of a draw at that point in time. Certainly not another port of Ms. Pac-Man Some of the unreleased games like Plutos, Sirius, Chuck Norris would have been nice if they cleaned them up and actually tested them. That gives you some good side scrolling shooters And a good cross section of the other genres, a platformer like Mario Bros, a "quest" game like Zelda, a decent basketball and football game Oh and a good Tetris-style game What did the NES release with and what sold best? Copy that model. The problem is they probably couldn't get the rights to any of that stuff.
  10. Having looked it up, you're right
  11. 27/33. This one I really got stuck on a few. BTW one has the name of the game in the screen shot! crop that out! Also, I don't think the alternate accepted answer for that one is the same thing. That was an unreleased proto. Thanks, these were a fun little time killer.
  12. 33/33 this time. With plenty of time left. But I only really got stuck on one of them.
  13. not bad but add more time, I thought I was pretty efficient typing in my answers and still ran out of time. at least another minute. right now you have 8 seconds to type in each answer. 21/30 but i ran out of time
  14. Nothing? No one's interested? I've been playing this game quite a bit and think it could be decent with a few tweaks. It's just that the hits travel too fast for a person to react to them (though the computer seems to have no problem) and the base runners are too fast. You shouldn't be able to get to first by a mile on a roller to shortstop. Someone point me in the right direction to do this. I need something to do this summer.
  15. I am trying to max out Stampede! and beat the computer in RealSports Baseball (7800 version)
  16. For the longest time I didn't know about the double jump and HATED this game as I got killed on the fence in the first 3 seconds. But it's a decent game and yeah it gets insane after a bit.
  17. Anyone ever think of it? Slowing down the ball when it's hit and slowing down the runners a bit could make this one almost playable Is there a 7800 debugger?
  18. That Guy Who Lied About High Scores would be a great song title for some 8-bit free jazz tune
  19. I don't understand pre-ordering games that aren't finished. Some people seem like they'd be happy with an empty cart and box just to say they have it. When they are actually being manufactured that's when you do a pre-order. Dropping $40 on a screen shot, you get what you deserve.

    Golf

Shot a 34 today. Could probably bring that down a few strokes with some trial and error. This game needs a course editor.

BTW can you get a hole in one in any Atari Golf game?
