I just picked this up and holy hell is this game just plain horrible and unplayable or is it me? Throwing guys out on ground balls to left field 4 errors in the first inning just throwing the ball back to the pitcher The 7800 piling up 10 hits and 4 runs in less than 2 innings WTF?! Does anyone enjoy this game? Is it better with two players? Am I missing some difficulty switch setting that makes it more playable?

Goofing off with my not-quite favorite 5200 games
godzillajoe replied to Gabriel's topic in Atari 5200
I loved Galaxian as a kid, aside from the horrible sounds. It gets pretty frantic. Now that I actually have some working sticks, I'll have to play it some more. -
The levels aren't botched, they're just based on the Japanese version of the game minus the mudpie / cement factory or whatever it's called. The 5200 has DK on the wrong side of the screen and other problems. But they ALL seem to have problems. As was said earlier, the arcade version is still the best. The 7800 version has TERRIBLE sound, the first hammer on the first screen is on the wrong side, you don't get extra points for jumping multiple barrels at once etc... BTW I remember hearing that the "How High Can You Get?" was changed to "How High Can You Try?" in later revs. because of the drug use reference

Did anynoe make them? I hate sitting 2 ft. in front of the TV

The mud pie level is in the 7800 version?! If so, I SUCK AT IT
-
I would buy a Pac-Man 7800.

Yeah I'm a righty so I would like the stick on the right. It MAY help with some games. I'm finding them a bit less than effective at this point, especially in a game like Phoenix where I keep activating the shield by accident. I guess the possibility of ruining one shouldn't be that much of a deterrent if I don't really care for the controller anyway huh?

I just got a couple from Best Electronics and don't really like the stick part on the left side. Was wondering if you could easily open one up and rewire it so you could flip it upside down and have the stick on the right simultaneously switching the two buttons Anyone ever done something like this?

Dude, do you have to piss on everyone's threads? I haven't seen it a million times, and if you have then don't read it, don't respond and stop being a pain in the ass seen it all and know it all.

Q*bert is good but lacking Ugg and Wrongway so it loses some points. And once you learn that jump through Coily trick, it's too easy.

hold still...

Maybe this has been done before but which one would you vote for? And before all the smart arses say "Pong" we need to add a degree of difficulty which maybe the more technical types can help with So.....which port most closely matched all of the gameplay elements, graphics and difficulty of the arcade game they were based on? Millipede is my personal favorite for gameplay but the graphics knock it down a few notches. And no real trackball support is a minus Stargate looks awesome but the two joystick thing makes it almost unplayable for me Berzerk is certainly a contender. No speech or diagonal firing but it's damn good. Go to it guys!

Ha. Nice. I think I made it a basic Asteroids ship way back when.

7800 Xevious is pretty good but I hate when it crashes. There's this one spot where lotsa stuff happens and it can glitch out or just hang. I usually just stop shooting and try to dodge stuff to limit the number of things going on and making the poor CPU sweat

Fair enough. And yeah I sucked at the arcade version so maybe the thrill of being able to survive more than 3 waves at home blanked out the floaty egg thing.
-
No, I loved the arcade game, I guess I just never cared.

a native joust player? i don't get it.....

Of course some of you have designed real games but when you were kids, did you invent your own Atari 2600 games? Anyone wanna tell the rest of us their creations? I came up with one I called Space Blorbs where you were a ship trapped in the middle of a jellyfish like space monster and had to blast your way out, breakout style and fly out through the opening. The monster would regenerate and once in a while "cells" would break off and attack you to make it harder. Think Yar's Revenge meets Breakout, Warlords and Asteroids Of course I had no idea how the 2600 really worked but it was fun to pretend You can now all openly mock me. And if anyone wants that for a homebrew idea, I wanna be creative consultant

Food Fight is a good party game. Whenever you get an instant replay, everyone has to drink. Too bad there's no simultaneous two player mode where you each go after a different cone on opposite sides of the playfield and maybe ONE of the deserts like the tomatoes can kill the other guy but the rest are harmless
-
Yeah but the three hundred pound fat man descent is straight from the arcade game Th egg thing is weird, I hadn't really noticed it before now and I don't think it ruins the game or anything.
-
Wow, I never considered Joust to be a horrible port. I didn't even THINK about the stupid eggs not landing on the platforms, didn't seem that big of a deal.

Whats your favorite Pac-man Inspired game for the 2600?
godzillajoe replied to jboypacman's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah there are Pac-Man looking creatures in Cosmic Ark (I thought they were dinosaurs though) and if you're saying it's Pac-Man inspired, then Pac-Man was inspired by Galaxian and Kick Man is a toal Pac-Man clone -
Punching Monkees? The 60's band?!

To ALL AtariAgers...would you be interested in doing this?
godzillajoe replied to Sayton's topic in Atari 2600
Honor system should work. Face it, if you're gonna lie or cheat to try and impress a bunch of random dudes on an Atari board, you're quite the sad little monkey
