  1. ok , i now have 2 colecovision consoles that with a prob i assume is power related. on both i have already taking apart the power switch cleaned and resoldered. power supply is for sure good to go. and also checked where the ac inputs connect to the board. ok ,one of them always goes to black screen and tone.the other most of the time comes up to garbled lettering with or without a cart it does change with a cart in however so im not thinking its the cart edge connector , i assume it is a 4116 issue, is there a way to narrow this down to which one it is ? or should i just replace them all on both? i read , that u15 is common with the garbled lettering but , on one of them it has been clearly replaced already? soo any help is greatly appreciated it!

  2. It's the contact paste they used between the switch and the electronics. Mine did the same thing. I took the CV apart (kind of tricky, but not dificult, you just have to work at getting the front cover off), and shot a little WD40 down where the switch meets the electronics beneath it. Worked like a charm.

have cleaned the switch very well. retouched solder joints on the switch. clipped and reconnected the power cords where they attach to the board. still nothing.

Do you have a voltmeter or multimeter available? You could then check to see if power is getting beyond the switch to the board.

nope , no voltmeter. i did go ever once again the solder joints where the power cable connects and it fired up , but all i get is like a constant tone. so i dont know, im thinking its goin in the closet lol. thanx for all the info though guys

  4. pretty much sums it up, i know the power supply and rf cable are good to go, when power switch is flipped it does nothing. i know its common for the power switch to be a little flaky, but is it common for the switch to just not work at all? or could my prob be elsewhere? any help is appreciated!

  5. Handsome effort, there. Very good!

Would future efforts have a rocker switch, for up and down? They're not hard to do, and they make Pole Position much more fun.

thanx! possibly, i wanted to put the rocker switches on these but ran out of rocker switches and locally havent found any, so im gonna have to order some. yes it does improve pole position for sure!

  6. I've re-had a 7800 for a month or so now, and I've played it for perhaps a total of eight hours.

Here are the games I currently own and have played:

    Asteroids

    Ballblazer

    Centipede

    Choplifter!

    Dig Dug

    Donkey Kong

    Donkey Kong Jr.

    Galaga

    Jinks

    Joust

    Ms. Pac-Man

    Pole Position II

    Tower Toppler

    Xevious

The graphics are often good, and the game play is just fine. Having the euro style game pads really helps.

But the system still leaves me cold, just like it did in the 90s when I had it the first time around.

What am I missing here? Is there a great game, unlike anything available on any other system, that will below me away? Or something else I'm not appreciating?

ninja golf comes to mind. tower toppler, great version of commando, i liek rampage and double dragon, xenophobe. theres alot of good games some are great but i guess that varies from person to person, i hear midnight mutants is good but i havent played it. ikari warriors is supposed to be good also.

  7. For what it's worth, I recall KayBee toys selling the CBS version in the 80's for like $29.99 in the US (think it got down to $9.99 before they sold out completely).

thanks for the input. so there indeed are ntsc cbs units. very cool.!

Yes, there are. I've seen one of these at least once before...the last one I saw was on eBay about a year or so ago.

actually there is one listed on there now, i just noticed. thanks guys for all the input! i really appreciate it. any idea how many where made? and also im assuming these where some of the last made?or the first?

  8. I just thought of something your TV if its a new ish one might be auto switching to Pall. We use Pall here in Australia but most my consoles are NTSC, my Sony CRT TVs just switch.

well her she is, the ax man had already ask about the tv, and it is for sure not lol. it looks like every other colecovision i have ever seen, no extra video board, and no mounting spot to the left of my thumb for a pal video , i was thinking maybe someone had stuck a ntsc cpu in a pal box but thats clearly not the case. the board revision i dont know if you can tell in the pics or not. is 75743 rev j coleco 1982,, i dont know if any of that is useful or not.

Hmmm strange should not work on NTSC CBS units should all be Pall, you could take a look inside Pall units have there RF on a seperate board.

thank you! i will open it up post my findings, i was gonna ask if there was some way inside of it i could tell the differance.

  10. I'm not 100% sure, but if I'm not mistaken, from top down:

    U.S.

    Canadian

    European

    colecoconsolespic.jpg

The U.S. and Canadian vary with the addition of the French language on the console overlays, but I believe the only CBS consoles were European. And there were 2 European CBS variants, the standard version with RF output, and the French only SECAM variant, with RGB output.

so, it is just a standard euro pal system? i didnt think a pal system would work with ntsc tv sets without like a converter or something? thanx for the info!

  11. i received a colecovision system today and it is a cbs model, i got it in a trade, with power supply, i dont have any games to test it with, but it does power up and i see the colecovision title screen, i thought cbs was for the over seas market only? or was this one jsut imported? i was thinking if it was pal it wouldnt work on my tv? oh well any help here would be greatly appreciated.

never mind i think its candian,
