  1. thanx for the info! i have a few more questions if you dont mind. sio2pc will it work with a usb adaptor? i have a serial to usb adaptor already, instead of having to buy the usb model. secondly, can you just hook up an external hardrive to it? or must it be a pc? thanx
  2. ok, i have an xegs that i just kinda put in the closet after i got a it not real long ago, im more into the 5200, however, i do have a renewed interest! i finally was able to locate a site, with downloadable images and such. omg, yeah i have indeed been missing out! i honestly had no idea there where that many games for them!i have a few quick questions,, im only interested in the gaming side of the 8 bit by the way. do the atarimax carts use both cartridge and floppy files? and all i need is the cart and the sio2pc correct? im still gonna have to track down a keyboard, i had a chance at one awhile back from a user on here cant recall who though, but had to pass at the time oh well. if anyone has one i would be interested in maybe trading or buying if the price was right.. thanx in advance for any help.
  3. you can open them,, there is a screw under the front label, a 4way screw,, if ya dont care to mess up the cover. once the screw is out , they are stuburn but if you squeeze the sides of them they do come open, there are if i recall correctly, 2 or 4 tabs that hold them together. its at your own risk but this is how they open.
  4. anytime. i cant say how easy the carts and disk are to come by, im sure someone here will point you in the right direction, they use 2600 sticks, ,so lots of options there. good luck!
  5. edit - Can the RF Box for 2600 work with a 5200?? lushgirl, if its a 2 -port, yes the 2600 rf switch will work.
  6. i think it would be a safe bet that if only the carts, trakball and system worked you still got a steal. especially if the wicos and keypads work, ,i think i would take the chance and keep it
  7. the 7800 is a fun system to own, ,i didnt really like them at first either but as its been said. pacman collection alone is worth it, ninja golf is great, also, rampage, i like the version of double dragon,, one on one basketball is great imo. many many great titles! on the 5200 , personally it is my favorite. dig dug is great on it imo. then you have space dungeon , centepede , real sports baseball, qix ,robotron 2084,berzerk, joust is almost arcade perfect. if you get a multicart ,you can play the 8bit donkey and dkjr, rescue on fractalus i could go on and on,it has a great trak ball controller. and if your somewhat handy the controllers are not that hard to maintain. i also got an xegs before i got my 5200's and it just isnt the same to me. but it depends on what you want,, if you want disk drives and such, ,of course the 8bit is the way to go. between the 7800 and 5200 , imo , own both if you can,, but if i could only have one or the other,, it would have to be the 5200. yeah alot of folks dont like the controllers. i just never thought they where that bad. also if the stock 5200 sticks are not your thing, there are alternatives. wico. y cables, masterplay interface which allows the use of 2600 sticks,, so yeah in the end. its all up to you. it is always debated which version is better on what system, i say, which ever version , you think feels best and looks best, is best for you!
  8. i see well i cant blame ya there lol. mitch what are your thoughts on modding the pot shaft where it goes into the plastic mount that holds the joystick in place? obviously it would loose some trim setting's but would this be feasible? best way i can describe what i have in mind. shape the shaft so that it is turned differenty once in place . hope that makes sence, i dont know really how to describe it.
  9. It's hard to say for sure without seeing it myself but it could be the system or the controller. Mitch thanx mitch,i opened up the system and changed the pot settings in the system and it changed nothing so, im pretty sure its the controller, i went ahead a took it apart, and i can get harry in pitfall to stand still if i rotate the pot a little more than the trim casing will allow it go. then all works fine, but it wont go together this way, i have thought of modifying the pot shaft, only thing i can come up with , im open to any suggestions,
  10. also, i read the pot in teh system may need adjusted. i have done this before on 1 atari 5200 for popeye . if this is the prob would it effect both or not?
  11. hello., just got a pair of wicos and y cables,, pretty cool, all in excellant condition, heres the prob i have. one of them works perfect. another, wants to run right all the time, ,i can still go left, if i push left, and can stop if i hold the stick a little left. ive adjusted on the trim setting i suppose thats what those are anyway, and just can get it to where when the stick is centered, he doesnt move,, im using pitfall 2 by the way, ,i dont have a missle command. any help greatly appreciated im ok with opening it up, so hopefully this is an easy fix.
  12. you guys have been so helpful with my technical questions , i have another .the donor 4-port board i have spoke of in my past topics.that i was gonna use for the bios. well it powers up fine. all i get is a redish screen. which i gather could be bad ram chip,, question i have is. i have an xegs, is there a ram chip or chips in it i could use to replace the the 5200 ones?i understand that a 5200 is basically a modified 8-bit, but i dont know on the chips. also the pokey chip are they wappable with the xe also? thanx in advance
  13. I should have just linked to the old thread from 2002, and I should give credit (to Mitch) where credit is due! http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...ost&p=99348 well a HUGE! thanx to both of you. thank you mitch for the know how. and thank you mrreto for pointing out mitch's know how!
  14. hey thanx soo much! that was jsut what i was looking for!! greatly appreciated!
  15. haha thanks for the reply, unfortunatly none of the chips on my donor board have a sticker. maybe i can deduce the options when i get the 2 port granted that one has a sticker.

    4-port bios

can someone advise me on which chip is the bios chip? markings, placement etc. ive a dead 4 port and im planning on getting a 2 port and want to go with the 4 port bios .thanx for any help
  17. pending on the version that you are looking for. A standard bally astrocade working can fetch an easy $100 in ebay. Pending if it has its box and games with it, it can easily reach the $150 range. There are several variants of the system and that can determine price. I personally have three units, all which are variants, including the rare white bally astrocade(montgomery ward edition). The bally home library computer is the rarest version. The bally arcade is probably one of the easiest. one of the great resources of bally info http://www.ballyalley.com/ thanx for the info and link! the bally arcade is the one i prefer to get actually. the white one is very cool looking!! i like the looks of the arcade one, ,basically just cause it has the word arcade on it i suppose, anyway thanx again,
  18. looking to buy or trade for a bally astrocade, im keeping an eye on the auction sites and cant seem to locate one! also any info on the value of them would be appreciated.
