This wasn't actually a question, but a small tip, I hope may help a fellow atarian to degauss his/her vintage monitor which doesn't have this function built-in. Should you ever find your monitor displaying weird distorted colors, perhaps due to a magnet or some other magnetically charged object that got too close to your screen don't worry there is an easy way to degauss and you don't need to buy a degausser ring or any other fancy degaussing device to do it. Most modern monitors have degaussing function built-in, and performing it is as easy as pressing a button or just turning the monitor OFF and ON. Not so with vintage monitors like my NEC C12-202A. So here's how you can do it easily and cheaply.

Larry just FYI, if you click on that 898, you can get a direct link to that particular post like this., just makes life easier

If Toronto/Canada is acceptable to you, I am willing to tackle your upgrade tasks. PM me if interested. Here's a recent 600XL upgrade (U1MB, S-Video/Composite, and internal SIO2BT) I performed for a fellow atarian Ray

This thread is kinda old but Larry, it can also do ASCII to ATASCII and/or ATASCII to ASCII conversion on the fly when you drag and drop. Handy for text files..

I've drilled one of the RF modulator mounting slots into a round shape as big as the hole on the nut and then soldered the nut over to the hole, that way one doesn't need to take the motherboard off the plastic base to remove U1MB for a battery change when/if it ever needs to be done.

Better be careful not to disturb the cockroaches when handling this thing. -
Jinks, your 600XL is ready, i'll be shipping it back to you on Monday. Here's a couple of videos for you: Internals: External look: Both audio jacks carry the same mono output. So if you connect the computer to a monitor via S-Video and Composite, you can have audio for both by running two audio cables to the monitor. The switch close to the audio/video connectors is to reduce Vertical Banding on LCD monitors (See the second video below) Vertical Banding reduction: Switch in ON position reduces banding by reducing Chroma signal strength so you may want to keep it in OFF position when you use a CRT monitor because it also reduces color intensity. Composite vs. S-Video: Tested on an old Sony 32" television with monitor inputs. Ultimate 1MB and Bluetooth: I replaced the Stock XL OS selection of U1MB with a 600XL OS patched for Bluetooth. http://youtu.be/X3sT1OixNrk

Open Source ProSystem? (APE/PROSYSTEM)
atari8warez replied to sskino's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Correction!... my XP PC is not a P4 400Mgz, it is P4 2.4Ghz.... sorry for the confusion, so yeah I cannot really comment on PCs running at ~800Mhz. -

If you're getting the same results from the same images at all times no matter what other variable has changed, then it must be the images as you said, try another image file of the same software and see what happens. IMHO I don't think DSR vs. RI will make any difference. I am successfully using DSR with a P4 400Mhz. -
Yes....

Which OS are you using on the Atari? What are your AspeQt speed settings? Is the PC running Windows or Linux/Mac OS, which version? -
Your parts from Jameco arrived this morning, so I will be able to ship your 600XL back sometime during the coming week. I went local shopping this Monday (brick and mortar) for the Dupont connector, no luck, but I instead bought 4 pin Molex connector and will replace the homemade solution with that.

Unfortunately i couldn't find any local sellers on Ebay, only some single pin jumper wires for Arduino in Canada, there are a lot of Chinese sellers though and I will order some for future use as it takes about a month to get here.
-
You're right, with the XBIOS, SWAP atrs, and U1MB it could be used for anything, I made that comment because I wasn't able to boot DOS with 600XL.atr you provided with the archive, but now everything seems to work

Absolutely

Yeah, I am out of my vintage CD audio connectors for PC as a source for those DuPont connectors, also "the boat from China is slow indeed", and who wants to pay $8 shipping to Digikey to get a connector that's worth only pennies, so it would definitely be nice to have the cable assembly included with the device. In the meantime here's my homemade solution (it's only temporary Jinks, don't worry ); used surplus SIO plug pins and a gob of hot glue:
