  1. put me down for two as always. awesome stuff indeed!
  2. awesome cake! will have to check the store on me iPad when I get home... thanks for the tip!
  3. sweet thanks for the heads up, nabbed em :-)
  4. was just looking at stellar track and it looks like its display could run a zoomed-in rogue, you just wouldn't be able to see as much of the playfield as the pc version, obviously... *writing this after I wrote what is below... dragonstompers main screen engine would also make a great rogue display engine... as far as controls, I -LOVE- dragonstompers control menu system, which really could handle the entire rogue command set. As a player, once you get used to the menu trees in dragonstomper, selecting things (now that I think about,) is a lot like street fighter before street fighter :-) in other words, it actually gets pretty fast and smooth. Just my two cents, but I don't think you'd have to cut anything unless you wanted to...
  5. just saw a post from THE MAN himself Wow, that's awesome, definitely following that project! Just as a fun history note for myself, as my final project for my college written communications degree, I wrote a sci-fi story set in the future and the two main characters were Rob Fulop and David Crane :-) got an a+
  6. what happened to the days when you could buy a game and see a picture or pictures of the person or people that made it... yea i know it's not the same all mega teams and such... I also loved the glory days of ea and their record album style packaging. Just feels like something is missing with a lot of the modern stuff, though indie keeps the flag burning a bit it still isn't the same.
  7. has anyone played baroque on the wii? (port of an old saturn game,) really fun modernish first person rogue-a-like with wii-mote sword swinging wonder if a-davies tile engine (from boulder dash,) would suit a 2600 rouge...
  8. I've always loved the item randomization elements, and the general 'you never know what you are going to get'ness of the game. Toe Jam and Earl reminds me of a strange rogue off-breed come to think of it...
  9. got mine today just WOW. That is all I have to say. Now let me go try to peel my jaw off the floor. AMAZING work, AD n TJ :-)
  10. aww yea... shipped.... soooo awesome...
  11. I actually can't answer this question because if I have not heard of the game, I do not know what it is. Slightly related, though, I heard back in the day that there was a 'Battle of the Planets' 2600 game, one of my friends said he had it and would taunt me with details. But he could never produce real evidence. I always wished it was real, though...
  12. thats wild, I'd love to know more details about this...
  13. not whining; just wondering if there were any updates Can't wait!
  14. that demake looks neat but it also looks weaker than 2600 in some ways, imho. Even the ol atari managed to get pitfall 'larry' to be more than monochromatic...
  15. Personally, I do not think more complex instantly implies superiority. I do believe many of the 2600 arcade ports capture the essence of their arcade inspirations and polish it. Much like an original, more geometrically complex but less aesthetically pleasing rock becomes a beautiful stone when put in a tumbler. Some people will prefer the original, harder, rougher rock and some will prefer the smoother, shiny stone. Shiny.
  16. heck look at how much money star castle raised and that game does not have anywhere near the name recognition of pitfall, imho...
  17. Whatever, like sinistarr, my 2600 hungers. For new games
  18. Really for me it is as simple as 'the plays the thing' I own several vintage arcade cabs and played many of them back in the day. I can mame anything I want to but I stand by the quality of the gameplay in many of the 2600 ports being superior to the arcade game and far superior to 'nothing' There are many odyssey 2, Vic 20, even a few ol astrocade, LCD handhelds and Fairchild games that were godawful looking even when they came out but I still enjoy the gameplay. For me, the distillation I refer usually made the games better, not worse. I'm one of the weird ones who prefers the floaty eggs of 2600 joust to the arcade game.
  19. yea I'd LOVE to see pitfall 3! I'd also love to see the extra board from the a8bit versions hacked into a pitfall 2.5 cart for the 2600
  20. ... and now for something completely different...
  21. as is well known (maybe,) 'round these here parts, I generally prefer the atari 2600 versions to the arcade originals. A game designed to take my money versus a game designed to give me value for my money (like tons of cool variations/play modes; I love shields in asteroids,) is a no-brainer contest to me. I think most 2600 arcade ports do a great job of distilling the gameplay of the arcade versions into a more accessible, fun version.
