  1. man laser blast is 20x the game that steaming pile that double dragon 2600 is. Just because activision knew how to tweak the 2600 into great feats of audio video accomplishment during the end times does not make the steaming pile that is double dragon any better.

Truly the only bad activision game. I still pick up and play laser blast. I love the rhthym the game play has. unlike 2600 double dragon which has no rhythm and apparently requires players to learn how to strike several inches from the actual sprite they are attacking to overcome the absoultely piss poor control, collision detection, and gameplay. and then defend said lack of gameplay here.

Just play spider fighter or something and be happy. :-)

  2. once again:

    http://british.nerp.net/experimental/80s/o...mags/sansei.jpg

found at a local flea market for $3

The only difference between the one I own and the one pictured, is that

it does not have a fifth button up by the stick, and the fire button is the same standard arcade style button as all the rest (not different, as in the picture,) Since the pic is b/w I will elaborate: The until is matte black metal, with 2600 color orange pin striping, and fake wood finish particle board blocks on the side. Coordinates VERY nicely with the original 2600s (especially the big sexy,)

  3. 26k faves:

    #1 space master x-7

    #2 fathom / kaboom tie

    dragon fire

    quadrun

    pitfall 2

(well pretty much everything imagic and activision made,)

    stargate

    crystal castles

    escape from the mind master

    dragon stomper

    outer space

    warplock/encounter at l-5

    flash gordon

    beany bopper

    tacn scan

    reactor

    yars revenge

    jawbreaker

    entombed

well i could go on :-)

  4. I loved e.t. when I got it as a kid. mastered the pits quickly and it was all fun after that. (pit tip, hold fire as soon as you fall.) I used to try to beat it faster and faster. I loved how the game was different every time. I believe that e.t. and raiders were early R.P.G.s which might explain their initial lack of success in the u.s. market. If the lead player/missles had BIG eyes i bet these games would have sold tons in japan :-)

  5. or just dont play this painfully bad game in the first place and enjoy

kung fu master instead? even chuck norris kung fu super kicks is far

superior to this 'game' (I'll be nice and call it that in deference to the '2600 double dragon masochists club')

Though, I could form my own 2600 masochists club around space master x-7 or quadrun, two absurdly challenging games (though honestly challenging, not 'find the way around the bad programming/collision detection/control' challenging.)

  6. for me the cheapest way to get a nice a/v 2600 is a stand alone

coleco adam + 2600 expansion module. The adam has video out, and all you need is an old vcr (it doesnt even have to play tapes,) to de-modulate the sound into a rca type audio. works great for me :-)

  7. it's what i call jaguar checkered flag syndrome.

Just because you can force yourself to overcome a game's shortcomings, does not make it a good game, it just makes you an electronic masochist.

Checkered flag on the jaguar CAN be a very enjoyable, satisfying, race game, IF you take the two+ hours to adjust to it's horrible control (much like 2600 double dragon.)

DO NOT confuse this for a good game!

    :-)

  8. man i loved that game, played it for ages. i know i got to what i thought was the highest rank listed in the manual back in the day.

its funny, over my many moves back in the day, i lost my overlay, and bought a new in box 2600 space shuttle to get the overlay back, and it had the 5200 cart inside. bizzare. still dont have an overlay for my 6 switch, but i did get a 4 switch overlay

  9. yea vanguard would rule. and restored music would rule too. didnt solar fox in the arcade have voice or music or something?

2600 star trek would be great with a sound/speech overhaul. its still my favorite playing version of the game

    what about crazy climber also?

and man if someone could finish elevator action with sound, i think that would be an amazing version

and of course 2600 klax would benefit greatly from music/voice

oh, and SINISTAR! yea! our 2600 needs to hunger!

track and field too. and why not 'prepare to qualify' in pole position (and maybe hack enduro into 2600 pole position + voice so the game doesnt suck so much. :-) )

and maybe get 2600 gyruss to have music & sfx? and maybe more of the orig music instead of just a constant looping bit?

can anyone else think of any others ripe for aureal enhancement?

  10. add the missing level and the speech to gorf. that would rock.

and wizard of wor doesnt really need anything added to the game at

all i think its an awesome adaption, but voice would be great

what are some other 2600 games that already exist that had voice in their original incarnation?

not really voice but it would be neat to add the correct 'swear' to qbert :-)

  11. ive tried to email him several times. I had two copies, one for myself and one for a friend. and I never recieved anything, no extra boards, no manuals, no nothing. all i have is the source code and my nice boxes and two glitched carts.

still a nice part of the collection though :-)
