SmileBasic4 for Nintendo Switch - BASIC Programming Returns...
gamer-stu replied to DavidD's topic in Nintendo Switch
I’d be interested in a pdf copy of the reference guide, if the offer is still available! -
Holy crap, you’re right. How in the hell does this thing boot up after making a mistake like that? It looks like I soldered to an address and data line. I should count my blessings that I didn’t cause serious damage, but I’m not looking forward to disassembling poor Colleen again to correct it 😱. Cautionary tale indeed. Thank you spspspsp!

Cautionary tale. I was installing the Incognito this evening, following the instructions on Lotharek’s site and FJC’a excellent Youtube videos. When I was about to solder the two wires to the CPU board, I noticed that the circuit board traces didn’t match the picture on the install guide. After investigation, I found that my Antic is on the lift side of the CPU board (when facing the chips), and the notch and 1 pin were pointing down, compared to the pictures on the instructions. Fortunately I was able to orient myself and solder to the correct pins. Apparently there was more than one rev of the CPU boards, with different chip locations.

Glad that you're mostly there! It should work completely on a 48k Atari 800. Did you happen to use the fixed A8 loader linked above? The only problem that I encounter is that "X" doesn't execute an image from the loader like it should. Only the joystick fire button works for me.

I access it by holding the SIO2SD shift button down (button 5) when turning on the computer.
-
IIRC, there are communication speed settings within the SIO2SD options. My 800xl could operate at the faster baud settings, but I had to turn them back to get the SIO2SD to work with my 800. I wonder if it is related to that?

I have decided to put mine up for bid. Check it out here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RAM320XE-576-expansion-with-Covox-for-Atari-130XE/392277570005

How to remove yellowing from an old Atari case
gamer-stu replied to mimo's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Addendum!!!! Sorry, I can't edit my original post for some reason (though I can edit this one, strange). BUT, I may have gotten some blooming. It looks fine in regular light, but under fluorescent light there appears to be some discoloration around some "seam" areas. So I wanted to get that out there before I lead anyone astray. I may have overdone it with the Oxyclean. -

To hell with sourcing peroxide. Following a recent blog post from Tezza, I soaked a yellowed c64 case in 4 cups of Oxyclean and a gallon + of water. 7 hours in the sun at about 60F ambient temperature, and the results have convinced me that this is the most cost effective way. I could have probably gotten by with less Oxyclean. A huge box of that stuff from Costco will set you back $16 and last a lot longer than the equivalent amount of hair cream or whatever. Before and after pics posted. -
I have broken this out in to two lots 1 for the XEGS (with U1MB) and loose games, another for games with box and doc. Can a SD2IEC be used like a floppy replacement?
gamer-stu replied to bpatte02's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
For future reference, did you create a blank d64 file and mount that? Or were you able to write directly to the SD2IEC? -

"Apple-like" games on the Atari 800 etc.
gamer-stu replied to Britishcar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
As much as I hated to see games not take advantage of the hardware, what I hated even more was not getting ports at all after 1985 or so. I was very envious of my friends playing Ultima V, Bard's Tale, and Pool of Radiance, for instance. That, coupled with the fact that my school system was exclusively Commodore, led me to (gasp) jump ship to the C64 back in the day. I did regret it somewhat (that awful 1541 speed!!), but now I own both and look back fondly on the shared lineage.
