today i've tried to play Videolife on the Z26 emulator, and i've read the manual of videolife but i cant do anything (i can control the dot and reset it and it counts, but i always have that dirt screen when it starts) or is it a special cartridge with ram or so ? so that the rom only won't work? who know how to play ?? TheleN

Well it worked on a real atari (tested it 10 minutes ago with my self made sram cartridge. I'm planning to make a site with detailed instuctions on how to make the programmer/reader and cart layout) but with one exeption when you pull on you will see already fIRE standing beneath when it draws STAR. when it goes drawing FIRE the beneath FIRE will disappear when it's at FI. (strange) the rest acts normally like at Z26 (maybe it could be because i'm using a PAL tv) TheleN

does anyone know a site where i can download most pal rom's ? TheleN

does anyone know where i could download Xe/xl/xegs game cartridge roms on internet ? and is it possible to put a .ATR file onto an EPROM or PROM ?? thanks, ThElEn [ 12-04-2001: Message edited by: thelen ]

hi mylant, just go to the atariage main page and choose in section SYSTEMS => 2600. then choose EMULATION...then you can download a emulator to play your downloaded games TheleN

i think if you try the a/v output it won't help, because the atari hardware makes a video and a audio signal which goes direct to the a/v output and also to a RF modulator (from this you go to the cable input of yor TV) , there aren't any ic's in only (coils resistor etc) so that the a/v signals are modulated in each other and if this was broken you can't always see the same stripes. Hi Cris, well i'm getting it a little bit, but i don't understand how then the rom is chip dis/enabled(ce line), it can't be always enabled thanks, TheleN

i have lost my adaptor for the jag, and i wanted to play on it..so i used another. within a second i smelled something and the jaguar didn't do it anymore...so i opened it and saw that in one ic was burned a hole... now i want to repair it but can't read the number of the ic. so could someone tell me what ic U38 is ??? don't open your jag, but if someone knows.. thanks, TheleN

well i've made an sram programmer, but for now i only can program 4K games, and i want to add bankswitching method F8. so i've looked at a ms-pacman cartridge board and i've drawn the schematic (there are two types of ms-pacman carts, one with the bankswitching outside and one with only the prom) and found out that there are only 12 adress lines are connected to the prom, but for 8K you'll need 13 lines i thought 2^12=4096 4K 2^13=8192 8K but how can the atari give an adress like 8184 or 8185, the highest adress line out is 4096 ?? i thought..

could anybody tell me at which adresses the cartridge will switch from bank 1 to bank 2 and from bank 2 to 1 with F8 bankswitching . could you tell the adresses in decimal ?? thanks , TheleN

well first i have to draw the scematics on the pc and make the software some more user friendly. it will take some days. i will post a message when it's ready. it's a stand alone device which is connected to the parallel port.you can put your sram cart in it(and program it with a game) or just a normal game-cartride to readout and save to a .bin name you specify you can build it with just 4 easy ic's ,a counter(4040) shift register(4021) inverter(7404) and you must have a sram ic.(i use a 32K => 62256 from an old 486) but first i'm drawing the scematics and software, then you'll hear it. finally it's working.... my sram cart programmer for 4K games. My device can read out normal game cartridges and dump them to a .BIN file and i can program my cart with the 4K sram on it with every 4K game i want. after 2 failing projects it's working !!!!. But i want to know how the bankswitching principe is working, could anyone tell me ?? ThankS , THELEN

well i've got a spectre gcr and i've heard you can emulate a mac on the st with it, could anyone tell me how to do this or where i can find some information or download software for it ? THanKS, Thelen

I needed a cartridge board so I opened a ms-pacman cartridge (through the years i've got dozens of it..) and i saw the board with the PROM chip and a 7433 and a 7488 ic's... when I opened another ms-pacman (same label, year ec) it was just a regular 4K board with only the PROM chip on it .... Why is this ? THanKS , Thelen

i now something about digital technique and memmories etc well i will make a cart where i could download the .bin rom files..but it's still unfinished...it's like this: first i wrote a program in quickbasic, (might sound stupid but worked) what opened a .bin file. if you have a 4K .bin file there are 4K=4096 bytes=4096 symbols. each byte(symbol) repesents a 8 bits digital value. so there is a ASCII table with 255 standart symbols. every symbol represent a 8 bit digital code. with this program i send the 8 bits code out and a clock pulse over the parallel port a 4K cart haves 4096 8 bit codes. i will use a CD4040 counter ic which is a 12 bit counter so it can count from 0-4096. i send out the 8 bits digital code to a 4K sram memmory, and a clock pulse for the counter.with every clock pulse it counts further and send the count value to the sram wichs indicates the adress (0-4096) and the 8 bits code will be saved at that adress on the sram when i have programmed all the adresses the program will stop, and you switch the sram from write mode to read mode. when the sram is disconnected to the power supply it will lose it's data the atari 2600 has a0-a11 (12 adress lines) and a12 as ce(chip enable) and 8 data lines. my program is finished (wasn't that difficult) and when i've got time a will go further on the hardware. any questions - suggestions THELEN

I've read the articles about the 32 in 1 cart and I think it can can hold the count cyclus with an elco for a small time. I've read that the 32 in 1 cart is a sort of rarity in the US, but in the Netherlands and or germany was it in the late 80's a packed in cart with the 2600 jr. (and the 7800) i've got 5 of them.

does anyone know a site which describes how to make a cart where you could download games on a sram?? i've seen eprom carts and some sram carts which you can buy. but they don't offer schemes or so. thanks...
-
thanks for reacting.. if you open a rom file (a *.bin file) with notepat in windows or other editor you will see many different symbols. with a 4K cart there are 4096 symbols in it, because of the 4096 adress lines. so all these symbols will represent a value from 0-255.this is because every adress contains 8 bit(1 byte) i want to convert those symbols to decimal code.. but how can i do this??? thanks

i want to make a program that can readout a rom file and to see all the adresses (with an 4K file 4096) in Hex or decimal. (i want to write it in basic) how can i do this ?? thanks, thelen
