  1. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Castlevania: Harmony of Disonance are top notch games. If your in for some old school FPS action, you have all the id classics such as Wolfenstein 3d, Doom and Doom II. If your into old school gaming, then you have the Midway/Williams, Atari, Namco and Konami classic collections. For strategy, you have the great Advance Wars and the classic Defender of the Crown was just released. For RPG gaming, I would go with Golden Sun and Phantasy Star Collection. Phantasy Star Collection is worth the money, there is 100+ hours worth of RPG goodness with PSC.

  2. Microsoft has been making video games for years for the PC. Microsoft's Starlancer was released on the Dreamcast. The winblows logo is right there on the Dreamcast. Sega's Crazy Taxi: High Roller, Virtua Cop 3, The House of the Dead 3 and the new Outrun are all on Microsoft's Chihiro(Xbox) arcade board. It seems to me that Microsoft is pretty heavy into gaming and if they want to be, they have every right to be. Hell, Nintendo started out as a playing card company. Granted, Microsoft bought their way into gaming, Sublogic- Flight Simulator, Access- Links Golf, Fasa Studio- Battletech and Crimson Skies games, Digital Anvil- Starlancer, Brute Force, Bungie- Halo and now Rare- Kameo, Perfect Dark. At least Microsoft doesn't destroy great video game companies when they buy them out, like Sony did with Psygnosis. Nintendo is no saint either, they bought out Retro Studio's and cancelled all projects except Metroid Prime and laid off about 60% of the work force.

As for the hype, all companies do it. Atari did it, Sega did it and now Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft still do it. Hell, they are all trying to sell a product. What do you want them to say? Ya, our hardware isn't that good and our games are just OK. Every company tries to trump up their systems and games, it is the nature of the beast.

  3. Back in the day, the Lynx was a WAY more impressive peice of hardware than the GBA is today. Ya, the GBA is better and more powerful than the Lynx, but you have to put each system into perspective. The games on the Lynx were comparable to the 16-bit console and computer games of the day when it was on the market. The GBA on the other hand is just blown away by todays consoles, such as the Xbox, PS2 and GC. You would have to have like a 64 or 128bit GBA for it to be as impressive as the Lynx was. The Lynx was a very high end peice of hardware and if I remember right, it cost like $199 or $249 when it first came out. I was young and just starting out on my own back then and I know I couldn't afford a Lynx till it came down in price to $129. The GBA on the other hand is a very entre level, mass market peice of hardware. The GBA is cool for old school 16-bit 2D gaming, but nothing on the cutting edge. I love both my Lynx and GBA, they both have great games.

  4. Unlock the window, then look out the window, then I think you pick climb from the menu. There is a hidden ledge on the wall. You are forcing me to play this game agian, aren't you! :D J/K I just might have to play Dracula agian tonite...because the window puzzle isn't even the hardest part of the game and my memory is fuzy. Just wait till you get down to the catacombs. Good luck and feel free to ask any more questions. :D

  5. Ya, I saw these a few days ago on ebay. I had never seen these Telegames re-releases of Atari Lynx games before. I thought that maybe it was part of the Raiden and Fat Bobby deal. Maybe Atari gave Telegames to pemision re-release other Lynx games under the Telegames label. Who knows, maybe these are new releases and Telegames just recieived permision from Infogrames to re-release some Lynx games. Does anyone know?

  6. Pitfall: The Myan Adventure on the Jaguar(SNES, PC, Genesis) was a good game. I never played the PSX Pitfall, but I heard it was fairly bad and I remember it got bad reviews back in the day.

The new Rygar made it to 3-D in style and is a great game. Maybe there is hope for Harry in 3-D.

  7. Everyone has basically put up all the best Jag games, but I would also include Syndicate. Syndicate was a big time hit on the PC and Amiga and the Jag version is just as good and with a zoom in feature as an added bonus. Cybermorph is also an excellent shooter. Cybermorph looks dated, but the gameplay is still there.

I agree with the comment that Atari Karts is bland. Nothing is really bad about Atari Karts, but the action is just kinda dull.

I find Club Dive and Kasumi Ninja extremely enjoyable games on the Jag, but most people don't enjoy them.

  8. Neverwinter Nights, Unreal Tournament 2k3 and Unreal Championship are great games and they have all sold really well. I have Unreal Championship for the Xbox and the new Atari start-up screen is really cool. Atari!

Transworld Surf sucks though, stay away from that dog.

  9. I had the Toshiba Nuon player, but I bought the Samsung N501 about 6 months ago. I sold my Toshiba to a friend of mine. I wish I had my Toshiba back. I bought the N501 for the better VLM and to be able to play homebrews. The movie playback and overall quality just seemed better on the Toshiba. The picture isn't quite as sharp on the Samsung and I notice more freeze up on my Samsung. :( I also have one DVD that won't work on my Samsung. There is also a design flaw in the N501. I have my DVD player in an entertainment center on a shelf below my TV, about knee level. When the DVD tray is open, it covers the receptor(whatever you call it :P ) for the remote and I have to bend down or put the remote below knee level to close the tray. This really bugs my wife. I also like the menu layouts of the Toshiba better. The zoom on the Toshiba also seemed clearer, where as the Samsung is more pixely. I also miss the screen capture/screen saver feature of the Toshiba. I had a picture from Blade Runner as my pause/startup/screen saver, the one where Harrison Ford is running through the city streets chasing the striper female replicant and there is the big neon Atari logo in the background. Very cool if you're an Atari fan. :D

PS- the person who said that there are no joypad ports on the Toshiba is wrong. There are two in the front, in a nice fold down compartment, not like the cheap rubber strip that covers the N501 ports. The RCA Nuon player doesn't have joypad ports. Did the RCA one ever come out?

  10. joeybastard-

So everyone who likes DOAX is an automatic hard-up perv who needs to get out? For all we know anyone in this chat room could be some super stud who is pulling in hot chicks left and right.

As for the gameplay, all the previews have been positive so far. Tokyopia.com wrote up a review of the game a few weeks ago and called the volleyball gameplay, digital crack. IGN made Tokyopia take the review down though, because I guess they made a deal with Tecmo to have the first review on the internet. If you go by Tecmo's recent games, such a DOA3 and Rygar, the majority of the reviews have been great. It is looking like DOAX will be another good game from Tecmo. This is cut and pasted from the Tokyopia review(before IGN made them take it down:

"But DOAX is nothing less than a surgical reinvention of the series. It's the yin to the fighting game's yang. From the moment the title screen boots up, with a rotating lush tropical island and the bouncy strains of 'How Crazy Are You?' -- you're entering a relaxed, utopian gaming. Relax, the game says. Slow down. There's no hardship in this place. There is not a frustrating, aggressive, un-fun line of code in this entire game. It has been designed from start to finish as an exercise in unadulterated, chilled out joy. I really, really dug it."

"The heart of the game is, nonetheless, the volleyball game. I'm pleased to say that this, frankly, plays like digital crack....................Couple this with the emotional element of choosing/buying different play partner, and you have a strangely compelling, strategic volleyball experience."

Granted, this is only one review. I guess we will find out more as more reviews come in.

  11. There are rumors that Microsoft was/is working on a handheld system deep down in the far reaches of the Microsoft Dungeon. Twenty floors below ground, beneth the Redmond MS campus. The Xboy. I don't know if this is true or just some internet urban legend.

  12. When it comes to internet polls, Nintendo always comes out on top. Nintendo fans are very well organized when it comes to that kind of thing, no joke. I post in another forum with a bunch of Nintendo fanboys. I always see posts like:

"Hey guys, go to this site and vote for the GC in this poll!"

Wheather it be for best video game character, best system, best game, for a game to come out on a system, etc, Nintendo always wins. Tecmo ran an internet poll about which system should get the new Ninja Gaiden, the GC easily won. I remember all the Nintendo fanboys were crushed when it was announced for the Xbox. LOL

  13. Beach Spikers is more of a arcade volleyball game with bad graphics, when compared to DOAX(Tecmo's abreviation for Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball). Outlaw Volleyball is like the NLF Blitz of volleyball games, over the top and not too deep. OV is also kinda trashy in my opinion, with one of the volleyball courts in a female prison and one in a back alley in a getto.

DOAX is is like a volleyball simulation/RPG/relationship sim. DOAX takes place on an island with day and night cycles and time passes. The island also has tides, some courts are only available at low tide. During the day you play volleyball matches, play minigames, explore the island and buy items at shops, with your winnings. At night, you can spend your earnings, watch movies in your hotel room and visit the island casino.

In DOAX you also need to monitor your relationship with your partner, the better the relationship, the better you play volleyball together. Some of the characters naturally like each other, while some are enemies(from the DOA fighting games). If they are enemies, then a relationship is harder to build. Winning helps build a better relationship and you also need to buy gifts for yourself and your partner to build on your relationship and trust and to make your partner feel better. For example, if your partners favorite color is red, you would be better off buying her a red bikini over a black one. Each character in the game has a story and more information will be revealed about your character and as to who they are.

Like most fighting games, the Dead or Alive series has a cult following of people who have mastered the games and know all kinds of details about the fighters, fighting styles and the tournaments. To them, DOAX is not only a great volleyball game, but a chance to get to know the characters better and what makes them tick, in the unfolding world of DOA.

In respose to the porn and DOAX post. There is always some heckler comment like this in every forum. How about you look at it as a form of artwork, not porn. Were World War II bomber crews people who needed to "get out more" because they chose an image of a beautiful pin-up girl to represent their plane? Is Alberto Vargas(the artist who is credited with inventing the pin-up girl) or the people who spend big bucks to collect his artwork a bunch of pervs? Enjoying the artwork of a beautiful woman and playing a damn good volleyball game is not porn.

DOAX is also only on the Xbox. Team Ninja and Tecmo signed a deal with Microsoft. Team Ninja also said that graphically, the game couldn't be done on any other console(of course it could be done, but not an exact port). DOAX also uses the Xbox hard drive for a user music soundtrack.

Tecmo also doesn't make games for the Nintendo Gamecube, just the PS2 and Xbox. DOA3 sold a million copies on the Xbox worldwide, so the relationship between Microsoft and Tecmo is fairly $trong, if you get my drift.

  14. I'll second what Gunstar said. The Commodore 64 and Amiga computers were very popular in both the US and Europe. They were more popular than Atari's line of 8-bits and the ST. The Commodore 64 was the most popular out of all the 8-bit computers, sold better than the Apple II line and the Atari 8-bits. Commodore was an American company, did they have problems bringing in the CD32's from where they were manufactured or something? CD32's were probably either made in the US or SE Asia somewhere. It doesn't make sense that they would have a hard time bringing them into the US.

The CD32 does have quite a few games for it. It has a bunch of games, not because the CD32 itself sold well, but because the Amiga was popular in the UK and many Amiga users with CD-Rom drives and the new AGA chipset could play the new Amiga games. The CD32 actually has more games than the Atari Jaguar. All the games on the CD32 are basically just Amiga CD games, that is why there are so many.

I actually saw the Commodore Amiga CD32 on the store shelves back in December of 93' when I bought my Jaguar at Electronics Boutique, in the US. It was in the Amiga software section, which was growing smaller by the day(the Atari ST software section was already gone). There was only one system and no software, it was all by itself. The Jaguar wasn't much better off, EB only got two Jaguars in and no games. The next week they got like 4 copies of Raiden in, but no new systems. LOL Atari and Commodore were both on their death beds and were doing the best they could I guess, with their limited resources. The Tramiels were such penny pinchers though, Atari lasted longer than Commodore. OK, I'm sad now..LOL...I miss the good old Atari vs Commodore days. :)

  15. Don't base how good this game is on reviews by EGM. EGM is the most biased magazine out there and their reviews are always done in a half-assed juvenile fashion. Especially don't go by this review if the version reviewed was the Xbox version, EGM has a well documented bias towards the Xbox. EGM always picks a system each generation to make jokes about and be biased towards. EGM used to be biased towards the Lynx and Jaguar, once those went away, EGM turned their bias towards the Sega Saturn and then the Dreamcast. Now the Xbox is the brunt of EGM bias and jokes. I think EGM uses this so called humor to sell magazines and make people of the "popular" systems feel good about their purchase and thus they will feel good while reading EGM. EGM is also biased towards retro games. EGM is the worst multi-platform magazine out there and I sometimes find inacurate statements in their reviews. The best multi-platform magazine out there is Play magazine, followed by Game Informer and Gamepro, EGM last. The reviewers at Play actually seem to enjoy video games.
