I just won an auction for a 2600 Binder, you know the one with fake leather where you can store 8 carts. It was in pretty nice condition and I got 8 common carts with it too, so I was quite happy with the deal. But after cleaning it I discovered that it smells really funky. It's obviously been living in a smoker home and I can't for the life of me get rid of the funkiness. Have you people got any tips on how to remove the funky smell?

You could also try some "electronics cleaning spray". I don't know the exact word for it in English, but it’s for cleaning conducting surfaces and to restore their conductivity. Just try and spray the pin connector and let it rest for some time. I would guess that you might find the spray at for instance Radioshack… Not that I have ever been to one, just a wild stab in the dark …

Here's a site with lots of tips & tricks for arcade games. And the timer bug in GnG is mentioned... http://rcatt.classicgaming.gamespy.com/

Yes... that does ring a bell.. hmm... timer... Now I must check around and see if I can find any info about it...

I seem to remember that there was something else you could do when you were a frog. Some sort of bug exploit, but I can't quite rember what... hmm. Then there was the spot on level 3 were you could spawn loads of zombies to rack up your score. Very useful to get an extra life, but I never really cared about my score in GnG. I just wanted to finish the game and get all the extra lives I could And let's not forget the VERY useful trick where you could instantly kill a dragon by hitting him on certain spot on the head. It was quite hard; you had to time it just right. And I think someone mentioned a spot where the end-boss of level 5 couldn’t hurt you. I never found it myself, so I never got past the critter I read something about a Robotron trick, in Retro Gamer I think. I am not sure it’s correct though; it said that if you repeatedly shot at a human the game would assume you are a moron and would then become simpler. It sounds a bit unlikely; I have never gotten it to work. Anyone heard about this?

I agree too, the Lynx version is great. Even if it's only four events. But I would still love it to bits even if it was only surfing included ... -
Nice to see it return. I really like the new layout too, except for some very narrow text rows on some pages. It’s certainly better than the old layout and good riddance to the cover cd. I just bought the second issue here in Sweden. I wonder if I dare to take out a subscription…

Well, when you mention it Ze_ro I heard something about a problem with Lik-Sang and the GP2X as well. Can't quite remember what it was about. I have dealt with them before as well, and had no problems. I bought my GP32 there, but that was at the Hong Kong store. What about the problem with the headphones connector? Has this been fixed? It seems that some units had problems with bad solder points that made the connector fall into the unit...

You could try www.liksang.com or www.gbax.com And here's an excellent webpage/forum about the GP32/GP2X : http://www.gp32x.com/

Thx, I already had a Vectrex since before. But it wasn't in very good condition and it was really noisy. Just waited for it to explode in my face when playing . The new one, that I managed to fix, is MUCH less noisy and also in good condition. I am glad I didn't have to try the noise fix...

Well, I got it working, if anyone's interested. It turned out to be a dried up solder joint on the power switch. So thankfully I didn't have to try and find a replacement switch...

No problem, and this way you don't have to waste a percfectly usable Bic pen ...

I bought mine, including two bit sizes (carts and consoles) and shipping to Sweden, from Electric Quarter. I think I paid below $20 for it, but it's some time ago. There is a trick you could try, if you don't want to dish out the $$$. Take a Bic-pen casing and heat it up with a lighter. When it starts to get soft put it over one of the NES screws and let it cool down. If it works you should now have a lowbuget NES tool. Haven't tried this myself, so I can't really say if it's any good ...

Hello All, Long time since I last was here, it's about time to return. The site seems to thrive. I am in need of some help: I just bought a Vectrex today, my second one. The unit was broken, but I needed another controller and I was hoping to be able to fix it. The unit got sound but no picture, you can hear Minestorm after powerup. So far I have been able to figure out that the powerboard is not receiving one of its needed 8.6VAC feeds. The voltage is correct before the volume/power switch, but drops to 0 after the switch. So I assume the problem lies in the volume/power potentiometer (the sounds is crackling as well when you change volume). Does anyone here know of a place to buy a replacement volume/power potentiometer? I have been thinking of actually just bypassing the switch, and connect the missing feed straight to the powerboard, but I am not sure that is a good idea...

Really cool story! Congratulations! And it always warms my heart to hear that anyone can enjoy a good game...

That's the reason why I never bought one. Aside from the fact that there isn't enough buttons to play all the Snes games, the Snes emulator doesn't run at full speed. 877601[/snapback] The GP32 has a total of 6 buttons (2 on the front-end). But it still isn't quite enough to play all SNES games. But my main issue is still the slow SNES emulation with sound, my unit does not clock over 156MHz.

Lik-Sang is located in Hong Kong, where they also have a store (that's where I bought my GP32) . I don't regret for a second buying a GP32, it's really a brilliant gizmo. Although I was a bit disappointed with some of the emulators, like the SNES ones (a bit too slow with sound). A really decent MAME (0.34) emulator has also recently been released for the GP32 and it’s still being developed. Check out http://www.gp32x.com/ for a good site about the GP32. They have pretty much every single GP32 program listed and a pretty helpfull forum.

Is it just slow or cruddy in general? Can you run older games like Pac-man, Donkey Kong at a decent speed?
-
Ohh.. Vampire Savior has got some amazing animation and twisted humour, and it's also quite over the topp . I have only been playing it on MAME, unfortunately. I don’t really like fighting games at all, but I quite enjoyed this one. And Little Red Riding Hood with her Uzi is also my favourite character. I wish I had some more space, so I could get a JAMMA cabinet… oh well, at least I have MAME ...

20 hours? I hope you weren’t the one in need of emergency help.

Yeah, but I still find it hard getting used to the Doom controlls on the GP32. I am so used to the PC keyboard. But as long as I have GP32 MAME I am utterly happy
-
Oh, quite a lof of emulators, more than I thought. There's even MAME and SNES, wonder if they run at a decent speed...
-
I wonder if it will work with a PAL tv...
-
Have never really tried the N-gage, but I am really happy with my GP32. Especially since we got a good MAME version for it. BTW how is the homebrew/emulation scene for the N-gage?

Yupp, gaming is for all ages. Back in the days my mother wasn't very fond of games. But I remember that I got her to try Berzerk, and she really liked it. But now day’s things have changed after I got her a PC. She loves Doom/Heretic and pretty much plays it every day. I am starting to have problems finding new WADs for her. I have tried to introduce her to new games, but she still prefers Doom/Heretic ... And I have also desperately tried to teach her to strafe, but she can't quite manage
