1. Just getting in to this and had a question on two terms I saw in threads - What is MCS (saw it in relation to scrolling) and what is RLE? Thanks!
2. Well, that's not exactly the case here - because while the FB2 (and fb1) are techniclly "plug-and-play", they resemble more of a traditional console than the Jakks and Radica "joystick/controller" models.
3. The larger online manual is done and will be going up soon. It includes complete instructions rather than the abbreviated ones that had to be done for the small packed in one. That includes full manuals for all the hacks/homebrews/proto games as well. Thanks. I had other names first, but it was decided not to go with them for various reasons and these were gone with instead. It'll all go down as part of Atari folklore.
4. Did you try scanning it to see the actual price? That happened at one of the local Walmart's by me. When I scanned it, it came up $15. Went to the store manager who verified it, thanked me, and promptly went to change the tags.
5. Just to make everyone happy, for the FB3 we're just going to just have Nolan in a box. No really, we're arranging to chop up Nolan Bushnell in to little pieces and ship him out. And best of all, he'll be fully legacy compatible with any little Atari retro-orgasm fantasies you may have. The Atari Flashcoffin 3. So if there's any defects, design dislikes, bad game choices, manufacturing location, etc. etc. you can just take it up with his estate. Oh, and it'll only be available at Walmart. So please, start another "I hate Walmart" thread when it comes out.
6. That was an error that was corrected several times and somehow made its way back in during the layout for the revision you have. They should click and set in or out (b or a). I just don't think the ammount (distance) it remains locked in is that much.
7. Well, I'm finishing the online manual (a lot more work than expected). But that shouldn't stop them from putting a general FB2 page up.
8. I got mine at the Walmart on 27th Street in Franklin/Oak Creek (just north of Rawson) They had one left on the shelf after I bought my 2. I don't know if they had any more in back. Let me know! 902831 Ehh, thats the complete other side of town from me (I'm in the northshore area). I'll try the one by Brown Deer Road first. My car isnt doing that great and I'd hate to ride all the way down to Oak Creek just to find out they were out.
9. Which Walmart in Milwaukee? I'll buy one to check out another in the batch and return it. For what its worth, I tried legacy controllers in the demo unit I have right now (that I've been taking pictures of for the online manual) and didn't have that problem. Maybe its something with the Walmart batch?
10. For the European market the consoles may have Asterix and Obelix to replace two of the games on the system to appeal more to Europeans since they are well known characters. Curt 894954 I´d recommend the following game for us europeans: 900700 Actually, that might have been a good game for the US release as well.
11. Which is par for the course with that mag. I love having an actual slick produced retro mag like everyone else, but the fact checking in that thing is horrible. I see so many errors in every issue.
12. Anybody notice how long the segment was? It looked a good 10 minutes at least, probably around 12.
13. I recorded it, DVD quality with the PVR on my PC. Anyone want to host it when it's done?
14. It's on. Nice coin-ops in the background as well.
15. They have a listing for it up on their site now - just do a search for "atari flashback". Comes with a bonus cdrom (they don't mention what), $33 plus shipping.
16. Anyone tried this combo yet? Was given an iPod shuffle, and was going to load some of the game audio's up on that. Had already done it with a CD player, figured this should work just as well.
17. http://www.classicgaming.com/atarimobile/
18. Manual? There's supposed to be a manual? Awww, crap I knew I was supposed to be doing something........and here I thought Atari was just sending a check because they liked me.
19. Not to splinter the thread, but Well, what the scaled down home interfaces pimped out to home computers in the early 80's was like. Plato was designed with a certain interface in mind (touchscreen plasma), and a goal of a high response time, something 300 baud dialup on a limited graphics home pc just doesn't cut. Check out this article for more info. basically it was the features of todays Internet and Instant Messaging in the 70's and 80's Instant messages, online multiplayer graphical games, etc. And in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
20. And on top of that, tell him he needs to rethink his "ages". 90's is the "golden age"? Good thing this guy didn't make up the color coded homeland security threat system. Hmmmm...or maybe he did! I didn't even notice that. Maybe I will . 891983
21. Got mine nib about 2 years ago for $400 - off of ebay of all place. Completely new and unused, was sitting in a back room of a music store as well (came with Cubase, SM124 monitor, and an extra boxed new 1040st for $15.) My guess is there are still music stores out there that have them and other ST's in stock in the backrooms. Just gotta do the hunting. As for there being no hard drive - my understanding is that the early shipments did not include hard drives in the unit. Mine didn't come with one either. Tempest - There's plenty of stuff available on the web yet as well as software collections on CD-Rom. Here's a british site selling a bunch - http://www.1632-sales.zenwebhosting.com/ac...tml&CatalogBody "All Things Falcon" and the Crawley Crypt collections are good ones, as is "The Atari Compendium".
22. Question number 5 - Reproduction is the correct word for it hardware wise. The Flashback 2's main chip is an exact reproduction of 2600 hardware in a single chip format. Case wise, it's of course changed a bit. And yes, the switches changed due to costs.
23. Defender, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong Jr. are not Atari titles however, and would all need to be relicensed by Midway, Namco, and Nintendo respectively. And personally, last thing I'd want to see is Crystal Castles with a stick. Possibly some sort of trak-ball plug-n-play would be interesting in the future.
24. I'm actually writing a review of it for CG.Com (as well as for AA's Stelladaptor, which will come first). The production value is great, I enjoyed the layout. But buyers should understand that a) It's a European produced book and much of the content concerns the market from the European side of things. It's more of an attempt at an encyclopedia of the Euro market, though far from an actual encyclopedia. b) It's got factual errors, so don't take it as anything more than wonderful looking coffee table book in the same vein as High Score!
