The last CGE that was in Las Vegas was held the same weekend as Comic Con International in San Diego. I think that effected the turnout (I know I didn't go to CGE because of the conflict). This year Comic Con is scheduled for July 21-25 2010, I hope they take that into account when they schedule CGE. Bill

I think what you're missing is what will he realistically sell in a 60 day period? 1000 units? 2000 units? So let's say he sells 4000 units in 60 days. He has to deal with packing and shipping them, etc. A lot of bother for $2000 dollars additional profit on a $250,000 order. Just selling everything off to the scrap dealer is a clean and easy transaction. What happens if in those 60 days the scrap dealer changes his mind? Or the price of gold goes down? Then he's gambling a quarter of a million dollars on the hope that he can make an extra two grand. It just doesn't make sense. Bill

I suspect that a number of people on this site don't really understand the economics of what Oshea's is doing. Yes, they could have lowered the price to a dollar or under and made four times as much as they will by selling everything for scrap. But even at that price they wouldn't have sold 1.2 million carts. Maybe... MAYBE, over the course of ten years they might have sold a thousand carts, two thousand carts... I mean, how many Atari collectors are really out there? How many are making home brews? How many need the sealed box? Let's say that they sold 5000 units over the next five years. That would have grossed them a thousand dollars a year. Then you have to subtract their storage costs, the time involved in filling every order (including man power and packing supplies). Selling everything for scrap grosses them about a quarter of a million dollars. That's a nice cash flow (especially in these economic times). Also, none of us know what they paid for the carts. Let's say their cost is exactly what they sold the carts for and they broke even on every cart they sold. It's still good for them economically because they've had the product for about 15 years and sold a bunch of carts during that time for everything from 80 cents to five dollars. That may have been their profit margin on the deal. Maybe over that time they took in an amount of money that made the deal worthwhile and made them a profit and now they're getting the rest of their investment out of it. Maybe they paid half what they're selling the carts for and are raking in a cool hundred thousand dollars in profit. We don't know. It's silly to call them bad businessmen without any of the facts. The liquidation business is a pennies on the dollar business. And if they're moving around lots worth a quarter of a million dollars and have the money to do so, my guess is that they are, in fact, good business men. And the fact that they held back the carts that have a little more value to the collector's market tells me that they did a bit of research before they closed the deal. Also a sign that they're good businessmen. It's a shame that these carts will be destroyed, but don't confuse that with bad business. Bill

How much does MegaHz charge and where can I get in touch with him? Bill http://mega-hz.no-ip.com/ Well, I couldn't make heads or tails of his website (I don't speak German). And I couldn't even find the SIO2SD case on that page. Can anyone give me a little more help? Bill

Flashcart and Multicart List - All systems

Awesome, thanks for the heads up I didn't even know they were making one. The Powerpak rocks. Anyone have a status update on the Snes PowerPak? According to the web site they've suspended sales to deal with some compatibility issues but it's very vague. I was one of the first to buy a NES PowerPak and had to send it back in order to get a resister pack added to it. I hope they figure out the issues quickly. I'm looking forward to trying this baby out. Bill -

I like the mini game that comes on the Universal Studios game for the gamecube. It's based on the ride and not the movie directly, but I enjoy playing it. Bill -
They seem to be pretty busy over at RetroUSB between updating the NES mappers and creating the Snes PowerPak. I love my PowerPak and have my Snes PowerPak on order. Bill

Flashcart and Multicart List - All systems

I just ordered mine. I didn't know this was even being developed. I love my NES PowerPak, I hope this one is just as good. Bill -
I don't have a new PSP but I'm guessing that if you have a USB cable that has the correct ends you can make a direct connection between the PSP and the PS3 controller and then you wouldn't need the PS3 as a go between. I could be wrong about this as it's just a guess and I have no way to test the theory. Bill

Can't connect to Xbox live while connected to Windows 7
Merrick Bill replied to Tickled_Pink's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
I don't have Windows 7 (yet) but I'm curious about this problem. Could you post a link to the YouTube video that solved the problem for you? Bill -
Just bought a heavy sixer from Sean. It arrived quickly, was in beautiful condition and worked flawlessly. Fantastic transaction. I'd write more, but I'm too busy playing with my new 2600!!! Bill

Many of the Rapidshare links in the first post are dead. I'll look through the thread again. This is an awesome collection and I'd love to get all the files. Bill They seem alright to me..... Really? The Megaupload files are okay, but I get a file missing from the Rapidshare links (expect for the first and second files). Bill

Well, the registered software arrived today and it seems to have completely fixed the problem. So I'm back up and running APE and my Atari. Thanks to everyone who had suggestions on what to do. Bill
-
I'm not a torrent guy, will you be putting these back up on Rapidshare? Bill
-
Idont know about the windows version, but the dos version (unregistered) one cannot write at high speed. Have you tried forcing std speed for writes on the atari side? james I did try forcing low speed writes, it didn't help. Bill

Hi Bill, Check file name. No numbers on the first character-- also check for duplicate filenames. Check that you have enought sectors Free to manipulate names. and add files. Check to see that files and disk are not locked or protected. Spartados is bad for locked and hidden files. Which Atari Dos are you useing? I'm using SpartaDos. The filenames should be okay as I'm using the same ATR files that I used with the old version of APE. I should have plenty of room on my drive to rename files and to add and delete them. The files aren't read only in windows and the file doesn't appear to be locked in APE. Bill
-
You should be able to write to it with the unregistered version. The problem could be your ATR file has an attribute flag of READ ONLY. Go to windows explorer and right click the file and then properties and then uncheck READ ONLY. Hope this fixes it. Thanks. That was one of the first things I checked and it wasn't the problem. As I said earlier, I was able to rename a file after I changed a setting in APE but then the problem came back. This is a strange one. I used the DOS version for a long time (until my old laptop stopped working) without a problem. So I'm somewhat familiar with the APE program. And I'm fairly good with Windows stuff. This one is just vry challenging. Bill

Have the confirmations been sent yet? And is there an ETA on when the carts will be ready? Bill

The lock icon is open. I tried clicking and unclicking it but that didn't work. Bill I disabled "Hard Write Protection" in the configuration menu and that seems to have done the trick. However, I don't know what that setting does so I don't know if I've opened up some other problem. There doesn't seem to be a manual for this version of the software. Still looking for any help or guidance from someone familiar with this software. By the way, I went ahead and ordered the Windows version of the software from Atarimax. Bill Well, that only worked one time. Now I'm back where I started from and changing that option no longer seems to work. Bill

I was using an old PC laptop with DOS software to run APE on my Atari 130XE. The laptop stopped working and so I moved an old Windows 98 PC to my game area and installed the Windows version of APE. My Atari seems to read my PC just fine, but every time I try to write to an ATR file, I get the error message "Write Protected or Bad Sector". I've tried writing to different ATR files with the same result. Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this? I'm using the unregistered version of the software (my DOS version is registered and I'll register this version as soon as I know I can get it working with my system). Bill

Another great party. The games were fun. The pizza was good. And I even enjoyed watching "War Games." Bill
