  1. I'd rather have the 3.5mm jack than the motion controls. They are played out. They might be suited for a VR experience, but not for regular gaming. I certainly don't need any more waggle control games in my life.
  2. Same here. I just bought these limited physical copies, as well as digitally on sale. So I definitely wouldn't need it again. Perhaps it'll be the new R-Type Final 2...is Granzella a developer on the Amico list? It looks like a game better suited for a PS4/PS4 Pro.
  3. "We have the code for R-Type Dimensions" . It sounds as if Tommy and crew are doing the porting themselves? He may not be familiar with R-Type Dimensions EX. Tozai has already added co-op play with 2 ships on screen at once. In addition they've added much more since both the original and DX versions. There was the original R-Type Dimensions on the Xbox 360, R-Type Dimensions DX for the PS3, and now, R-Type EX for PS4 and Switch. Here is the full description of R-Type EX from PSN (new features since the original are bolded: The coin-op classics, R-Type & R-Type II, are together on PS4™! Fight through all 14 Bydo-infested stages in retro 2D graphics or shiny 3D graphics - and swap back and forth with the touch of a button 'on-the-fly'. The new 3D graphics are accompanied by fully reimagined arrangements of the timeless R-Type music tracks! The classic game-play remains untouched while the new Infinite game mode allows continuous progression from game start to final boss... the Bydo will not evade you this time! Both game modes can be played as single player or local multiplayer. R-Type Dimensions EX introduces three new features: Full Power-Up Mode, allowing players to power their ships to maximum weapon in Infinite Mode Fast Forward, the ability to speed up the game in any mode and crystal-clear 1080p resolution. So pull yourself together, save the earth and strike down the Evil Bydo Empire!! Based on the constraints in which Intellivision has placed upon the Amico it sounds as if they might have to reduce some things instead of adding more. - online co-op (which worked great is a shame that it would have to be removed)- - The size is over 2GB w/ update. I'm not sure if they've set a size limit. - It's rated for ages 10+ due to some animated violence and gross humor. I think it needs to be restricted to [E] for Everyone. - Toejam & Earl BITG was a $20 game when released on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. It's been reduced to $15. It is realistic to expect it to have more features added AND be sold much cheaper than the other online stores? Also, if they do produce a physical copy of Toejam & Earl I HIGHLY recommend they go with the black grid style (like the old Genesis game). LRG only added it later on to the Best Buy retail version, and it left many fans upset. They expected LGR to use that style on the copies they sold. Do they look very nice and nostalgic!
  4. Interesting, thanks. I thought the Amico wasn't going to have ports from other consoles. Only brand new games designed for the Amico. Maybe I've misheard. No that I would mind. There are tons of great games out there which the Amico could benefit from having on their system. Perhaps even Cuphead or Blazing Chrome could find their way onto the Amico. They are both very impressive classic run & gun style games. I also wonder if R-Type is going to be based on R-Type Dimensions EX.
  5. The PS4 version of the Atari Flashback Classics actually allows you to use the DualShock 4's touchpad as a trackball for several games such as Missile Command, Centipede, Millipede, and also emulates the spinner controller for games such as Tempest, Breakout, and PONG. I'd like to say that the touchpad works as well as a physical trackball or spinner, but sadly it does not. I found the Analog stick to be far more accurate. If the Amico had some of rotory spinner accessory like Taito made for the DS I'd be more interested in buying one. It makes playing brick breakers so much more fun than using touch screen. Of course Taito also made the wonderful VAUS spinner controller for the NES as well. It went from feeling like a port of Arkanoid to feeling just like the arcade. It's hard to explain, but once you play these games with a rotary spinner it just feels right. Is it going to be made by Greg Johnson's company, HumaNature, and is it a port of TJ&E Back In the Groove? Awesome game, but I would definitely want online co-op with it. My childhood friend and I used to play it back when it first came out on the Genesis. It was an absolute blast being able to play it with him again across the country. It worked like a charm. It goes without saying that I am a huge TJ&E fan. I actually didn't know it was announced for the Amico.. Will I be adding it to my TJ&E collection?... Maybe?
  6. But that's what I'm talking about. It's a "virtual D-pad". I thought that many Amico games will be remakes of original INTV games, as well as emulated INTV classics. Those using the virtual D-pad touch controls are not really the same as "designed for touch controls". They are "redesigned to use a virtual touch screen controller. If people like those than that's great. I'm just saying that I've tried them and as a gamer who's played probably 10k games, I like to play using an actual physical controller with a dpad/joystick and buttons.
  7. I'm not saying I'm against remakes of the classics, but I know I love the originals. I grew up with them on an INTV, and I'd like to have them readily available on one of my existing systems, especially the Switch. They would be awesome on a portable system! The classics tend to look very nice on the smaller Switch LCD display. I also love the history of INTV games. I love to see box art, commercials, developer interviews. (Devs really deserve to have their stories told!). Maybe get Mike Mila at Digital Eclipse involved. They did amazing work on the latest SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, as well as the Capcom Disney Afternoon, Mega Man, and Street Fighter, Disney's Aladdin/Lion King collections. They include hundreds of high resolution scanned flyers, game boxes, interviews, and they went a step further with the emulation, where you can not only reverse mistakes, but skip past parts of levels, or just watch other pro players and get tips. They really went all out on recent collections!
  8. I think it's most people's opinion. Unless I'm doing it wrong. To be clear here, I'm speaking of games that are really meant for physical controllers. I've tried the followinf with touch screen controls on both a tablet as as well as an iPhone: Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, CD (Christian Whitehead's incredible port/HD remasters), Metal Slug 3, Castle of Illusion HD,Pac-Man, Beat Hazard Ultra, AfterBurner Climax, TurboGrafX emulation (with several games). And my takeaway here was that it was not at all accurate or fun to any this way. Not only was it a chore to keep your finger on a "virtual D-pad"which is far from accurate, but the lack of feeling actual buttons when tapping the screen just felt all wrong. Especially Pac-Man and Metal Slug 3.. They were barely playable. And again, I'm not talking about games designed for touch controls. Coin Dozer, Flick Golf, and 8-bit Ninja were all good. They use swipes, and the like. No on-screen virtual D-pad or anything. That's the big difference.
  9. Does the release of the Amico mean that Intellivision Entertainment will not consider releasing compilations of their INTV catalog to other game systems/mobile/Steam? I'm still on the fence with the Amico, but I would definitely buy a compilation of older INTV games. Intellivision Lives! is an incredible collection. I love the extras even more than the games themselves. In addition to the 68 INTV games, which also have optional Intellivoice support, there is a plethora of historic bonuses on the DVD disc. I love watching the old commercials, as well as interviews with many of the game programmers. I wish all game compilations were like that!
  10. Touch screen controls on mobile phones are perfect.... For messaging, playing solitaire, Bejeweled type games. However, they are not ideal for any twitch games which require precise controls.
  11. The Sony Move controllers were excellent for light gun style games (House of The Dead III, IV, Overkill, etc). The PS gun shells made them MUCH better IMO. I grabbed 2 of these for only $5 each. They get bonus points for being Famicom colored. I also like how they are still chargeable while in the shells. I still use the Move controllers extensively with PSVR, and it looks like it's the preferred controller to use with Dreams (which looks incredible so far). It's by far more accurate than any of the Wii motion controls, thankfully! I was very impressed by just how accurate a Move controller while playing the PSVR game, Tumble VR. Where it requires you to make very precise movements with 3D objects. As good as they are I hope Sony Moves onto something else with PSVR 2.0. I'm guessing it'll also have haptic feedback and more individual finger control as well.
  12. I'd say that most people just prefer to play their ames the old traditional way, with a d-pad or joystick. If you look through gaming history, you'll see just how many alternative controlling methods there has been, and the one tried and true method has been the controller/joystick. Even the Wii with it's near perfect execution failed to get most gamers to enjoy playing games with "waggle" controls. It was the biggest downside of Zelda The Twilight Princess, and (among other things) why people stuck with the GameCube version of it instead. Same with Zelda Skyward Sword, which was built from the ground up with the newest Wii Motion Plus controls at its core. Gamers are still requesting Nintendo to remaster it just so they can use a standard controller. People emulate it (on Dolphin) just to use a control pad. There have been some absolutely amazingly innovative controls added to games over the years, but they just don't stick (no pun intended). Look at GTA China Town on the DS, Tearaway on the PS Vita, for example. They didn't sell particularly well. In fact they may have sold better had they not had those, as some would say, "gimmicky" controls. I'm probably one of the few people who would like an actual rotary dial controller for brick breaker games. I loved them on the Atari VCS, and I bought Arkanoid w/ VAUS rotary controller, the day it became available. I even bought the Famicom version w/ Arkanoid II, and I also bought the rotory spinner on the DS, which I love. It's a shame they didn't really support it. I thought the Atari Flashback collections would be fine to play PONG, Tempest, and other Paddle controlled games with either the Touchpad or analog sticks, but it isn't. They need a true analog paddle. Haptic feedback? My guess is that it will use the LCD touch screen to mimick the INTV color overlays which fit on top of the INTV controller. I guess that's a pretty obvious use for it though. Probably the best use IMO.
  13. Uh oh... Someone better alert the scalp..err sellers at once! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Analogue-Mega-Sg-Cartridge-Adapter-Set-Brand-New-Sold-Out/184166163405 Looks like the buyer will be SOL. "No returns"
  14. Also, going back a few posts.. With all of the hate on the Switch and PS4 consoles for having [T]een and [M]ature rated games, and the Amico on set to fix that by only allowing E rated ganes. Perhaps someone should consider making a brand new DVD Video player which refuses to play any PG-13 and up movies. Or maybe parents could just use the built in parental setting on the console. I bought my 10 year old nephew a PS4 system. I installed several family rated games for him (Overcooked, LittleBigPlanet 3, Monopoly, Battleship, Untitled Goose Game, and Ratchet & Clank), and I also made sure to turn on parental controls, which took all of 5 minutes. I'm not sure how that can be considered difficult. It's really not hard to limit current gen consoles to play onl E rated titles. Some people will have you believe otherwise though. He loves the system by the way, and told me I can buy him Minecraft for his birthday. I'm still just trying to figure out the demo for the Amico. It's obviously not for me. (Kids).. I am going to assume that would likely be disappointed if they received an Amico system instead of a Switch or PS4. I can also guess that they would rather have either Minecraft or Pokémon than Shark Shark or any other 1980's remake. For the record *I* would rather have the INTV game, but that's me. (Hardcore gamers).. I consider myself to be in this category. I will admit that I was a bit hyped for a new Earthworm Jim game, which I was basically told wasn't for fans of the classic EWJ style. I can't stand using a touchscreen to play games on. I also dislike the disc controller on the INTV.. Almost as much as I hate the ColecoVision controller. And I wouldn't want to spend $250 on another game console which restricts me to only E rated games. (Granny-Gamers).. They'll take one look at the Amico controller and run back to their very family Wii to continue playing Wii Sports tennis and bowling. So who does that leave left to sing the praises of the Amico, aside from perhaps the YouTubers wearing Amico branded shirts and hats of course.
  15. Trust me, I get it. That doesn't change thast fact that I'd like to play some old classic INTV with graphic and sound updates on any of the various, and very capable consoles that many of us already own. That was just my opinion, and in no way means I don't understand what the Amico is.
  16. I've been seeing people connecting their PS4, PC, and Genesis Mini to their CRTs with an HDMI to VGA or YPbPr component. Has anyone here tried that? I'd like to find an HDMI to component adapter for under $50 so I could play my AVS, Super Nt, and Mega Sg via the YPbPr component input on my Sony Wega CRT. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.
  17. It wasn't me who started in with the numbers. I am just seeing a lot of discrepancies with them is all. So those 3 billion casual mobile phone owners do not also game on PC, own consoles? Are they counting mobile phones / decices which shipped with Snake or Bejeweled pre-installed as "casual gamers"? And yeah, the numbers don't really mean much. Aren't those 3 billion casual gamers content with gaming on their phones? Why would they want to buy a new console to play games which are very similar to what they can already play? And going back to "granny"... They love their Wii Sports! Bowling and Tennis in particular is what is always playing on Wii's at retirement and assisted living (homes). What would make them want to ditch their still functional Nintendo Wii + Wii Sports? Will the Amico have games such as those? I'm honestly curious here.
  18. I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for saying this, but I'm a huge INTV fan. As a kid I owned one, as well as an Atari VCS, and ColecoVision. The new versions of classic INTV games certainly do intrigue me, but I don't see myself spending $220 - $250 to play them. If they instead released an "Intellivision Old & New Collection", (which might contain original emulated INTV classics, as well as the new remakes with more colors, better sound, more features), for the PS4/Switch/Steam. I'd gladly pay $29.99 for that. I know I know.. The Amico controller is a must.. LED lights, RFID, touch screen, etc.. Well the Switch can do touch screen, NFC wireless, motion controls, and 3D aiming via iR camera in JoyCon, and the PS4 DualShock 4 has dual analog sticks, a digital pad, 10 digital buttons, touchpad, 2 analog buttons, 2 pressure sensitive buttons, LED light bar, motion controls via six axis (3 axis gyroscope, 3 axis accelerometer), speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, and you also have the ability to use ANY Android/iPod/iPhone device as a Second Screen. If you want to see what is possible with this setup look no further than Tearaway Unfolded. You can instantly take a photo from your phone or tablet and send it into the game where it becomes a high resolution texture in the game in real-time while you are playing! Or draw an object with your finger on either thr DS4's touchpad, or any mobile device and transfer that to the game as well. It also uses the touch pad extensively to create characters, control the wind, and much more. Controls aside, t's also a very beautiful and innovative game. There is plenty of functionality with current controllers for any developer to utilize here. In my opinion anyway.
  19. 106 million PS4 systems sold 45 million Switches sold 41 million Xbox One systems sold --------------------------------------- 192 million total for current gen console gamers So by your data only 8 million people game on PC?? My data shows that being between 1 and 2 billion people playing games on their PC. Remember.. Causal games. If you're going to count mobile phones that ship with Snake you also must count people playing solitaire, or those awful Facebook games on their PC. And are we not counting previous gen consoles which so many people still play? I'm guessing there are millions of families who still play their Wii.. Xbox 360, PS3.. Even the classics such as NES. Portables too, such as 3DS, are still being played. It's deifntely getting a physical copy? And it'll be priced the same as the digital download EWJ.. $9.99 or less? Does Amico use discs, cartridges, SDcards.. Has it been announced or shown yet?
  20. EWJ 2 is still very much a 2D platformer though. Just with some added bonus/filler style stages in the form of the 3 Peter Puppy stages, but those aren't counted towards any of the game's 9 main levels. To break it down: Level 1 - Anything but Tangerines (8 minutes) Level 2 - Lorenzen's Soil (10 minutes) -------- - puppy 1 Part 1 (7 minutes) Level 3 - Villi People (13 minutes) sort of mimics the underwater shooting of EWJ1, with some nice bonus stuff. Level 4 - The Flying King (7 minutes) isomeric shooting -------- - Peter Puppy Part 2 (9 minutes) Level 5 - Udderly Abducted (17 minutes) Level 6 - inflated Head (5 minutes) plays a bit like the levels in SMW where Mario inflates with air. Level 7 - ISO 9000 (6 minutes) -------- - Puppy Love Part 3 (11 minutes) Level 8 - Level Ate (8 minutes) Level 9 - See Jim Run, Run Jim Run (3 minutes) Boss level, race (not unlike Sonic VS Metal Sonic) I will admit that there is a bit more puzzle element thrown in along with the platforming, and the weird addition of the isometric shooting/bomb level, but without those it would have likely been a better game. I don't know many EWJ fans that like that level, and could do with less of the Peter Puppy stuff as well. I still feel that EWJ Special Edition was the absolute pinnicle of the series. It was enhanced in many ways over the original version. More animation, more effects, samples, a new ending, and Redbook audio. The Sega CD version fetches some pretty high prices these days. I'd recommend the Win 95 CD version (not the DOS version!) It's nearly identical to the SCD version, albeit with higher color/less dither, like the SNES port, but without the cool line scroll (wavy water) effect underwater... I guess PC's couldn't pull that off!! As a fan you can't help but be a bit worried about the series based on what has been said. Not to mention the last few "not 2D" Jim attempts have been less than ideal, to put it nicely. Earthworm Jim 64 = atrocious, Earthworm Jim PSP (canceled and looked terrible) Exactly. I mentioned my concern about the limited amount they will charge on a YouTube comment on one of Tommy's interviews. I'm not sure the budget of the 16-bit versions of EWJ/EWJ2, but they both sold for $60 at launch. (Roughly $120 with inflation calculated in).
  21. So my initial fear has now been confirmed. I might be wrong, but I'm still going to guess that 99% of people that want another EWJ game, want not only a strictly 2D EWJ, but also one that has hand drawn dot pixel style graphics as seen in EWJ 1 & 2. And I am one of the biggest EWJ fans. I've absolutely loved the game since day one. I've bought just about all of the worthy ports... Hearing of a new EWJ game, by the original team no less, had me excited. Then I saw the controller that was expected of us to control Jim with, and now a confirmation of "not a 2D side scrolling platformer" really kind of took the wind out of my sails. EWJ's highlights, and I think the main reason it's had success was because of the beautiful hand drawn dot-pixel animation, and the balanced game play and controls. The music too.. God forbid I leave that out on a reply to Tommy's comment!! Let us not forget Jim's that foray into the 3D world with *shudders* Earthworm Jim 64. Oh, the humanity! Had it even been well designed it still would not have a "proper" Earthworm Jim game. I tnink I speak for many fans when I say..we want more of this.. and this...
  22. As far as games which aren't E rated there are very easy ways to limit what can be played/viewed on the system. I would hope that any parent would care enough to take the 5 minutes it takes to turn on parental controls on. Turning these parental controls on, not only blocks mature games, but also Blu-Ray and DVD discs as well.. Very useful tool for parents here! https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/help-library/my-account/parental-controls/age-ratings-and-parental-controls/ Parenting 101 Very easy for parents to understand...at least for parents who are fit to raise a child. All retail physical copies, as well as digital downloads are clearly marked with this easy to understand ESRB rating.
  23. Well, I didn't really have Super Smash Bros. in mind for grannies, but I'm guessing they'd be more into that than say Earthworm Jim 3 w/ a spinning disc controller. I thought you were also targeting kids for the Amico demographic. I've been trying to get my younger family members interested in my retro games for years now. I have an entire room full of thousands of games and hundreds of systems. All I hear is "ewwww. what is this PONG?" and I say YES.. Now shut up and play ya brat! OK, maybe I don't say that, but you get my point. Kids aren't often into a simplistic looking/playing games, aside from maybe Minecraft, but that's because there is so much other stuff going on (I.E. LEGO brick building, crafting, community), or if their on their phones and it's something quick to play. When it comes to the 55" living room TV they want high tech and flashy. -- -- (sorry I'm on a tablet and can't properly divide your quoted reply) -- -- The PS5 is $500? Did you (Tommy) just leak something here? I'm still saying it'll be either $399.99 or $450 MSRP. Sony has learned their lesson with the PS3 launch and Mark Cerny has said gamers will be very pleased with the PS5 price despite it's features. They are fine with taking a loss on the hardware, which will be made up on software. Why are PS5 systems even being compared when the PS4 and Switch are still very much current systems, and will have plenty of releases for years to come. Not to mention the PS4 is many times more powerful than the Amico, so let's compare that instead of the PS5... PS4 console...................$250 ($200 during sales) vs Amico.. $220? Dual Shock 4 controller..$40 or wired 3rd party for $20 Purchase of game...........$.25 cents on up. NOT $60. I currently own about 300 PS4 games and I can honestly say I've never paid anywhere near $60. Not that a game like Uncharted 4 isn't worth that. Hell, I was paying $70 for Sega Genesis games in 1990 and nearly $100 for N64 games soon after its launch. So yes, there are tons of cheap indie games available. And often times AAA games will go on sale (Flash Sale) for $5 - $10. I bought many for a steal. I could name hundreds of great couch co-op games, many w/ online co-op and family friendly too. LittleBigPlanet, Sonic Team Racing, Rocket League, Overcooked, Monopoly, Wheel of Fortune, 5 bazillion LEGO games, PS classics.. Crash Trilogy, Spyro Trilogy, and hundreds, maybe thousands more. Many of those are granny and child approved. And one last thing. Going back to the controller pricing, I'm not sure if you are aware. Many people aren't so I wouldn't fault you, but the PS4 now allows you to play it's games on othjer devices. There now exists both Android and iOS support for Remote Play. This can be used with local systems to have friends join in and use their phone or tablet as an extra controller. I believe the Amico will have something similar, but the Remote Play PS4 app also acts as a streaming video display as well. So the other players can log in and play from anywhere in the world. All of that being said I still do have a little interest in the Amico. I am a lover of most gaming consoles. I even own 3 Philips CD-i systems, and not just because I worked for them either! I honestly believe that if a gaming console even has only a handful of worthy exclusives then it's worth owning. So we shall see and I look forward to seeing the Amico at this year's E3 show.
  24. I've been hearing that the PS4 and Switch just don't have many family oriented games. Not enough couch co-op games, and one outrageous claim that the Nintendo Switch has, and I quote "full genitalia, Child rape and molestation" source in their games! This is either a huge exaggeration or Nintendo is about to be shut down. And again, when I asked which commercial Nintendo games had that content... Nothing. No proof. Because it isn't true. Some of this annoys me since I used to manage game stores where parents would ask for appropriate games for their children, and there were always tons of great age appropriate titles for them. Suggesting otherwise is just not being truthful. Just because a console also has titles for other age levels (certainly not child porn!) should not hurt the platform as a whole. This is why we have ESRB ratings, and parents who can implement locks so that children are unable to see or purchase anything higher than an E rated title. And one more thing.. He talks about the Amico not being aimed at the PS5 / Xbox Series X crowd, but then comparisons are made on those consoles compared to the Amico. "Play a game with your buddies on the PS5...it will cost you $800".
  25. Yeah, I figured I'd follow this thread. Some of the others seemed to be a bit one sided. I've been watching and reading up on the Amico since it was first announced and I'm trying to wrap my head around who it's for and if it's something I need to get. Thus far I still can't answer either of those questions. I will say that I found the trashing of modern consoles as part of the Amico sales pitch to be a bit off-putting. I'm still very curious and look forward to seeing more game demos though.
