  1. Good grief!! "Fly on the Wall" ain't their best work (the Mutt Lange-produced triumvirate of "Highway to Hell," "Back in Black," and "For Those About to Rock" will never be surpassed), but it's been 30 years since "Fly on the Wall." Get over it. Even those who think it sucks frequently admit that at least "Shake Your Foundations" was a pretty good song, if they liked AC/DC at all......
  2. Who cares? As long as they know what you're talking about. This reminds me of when you enter a Greek (or pretensively-Greek) food stand. I'd like a "Gyro." Well, how do I say that? Well, since the spelling is in English (dare I say "American?") I want to say JY-ROW as you would, when pronouncing the word "gyroscope" or "gyrocopter." I'm talking about a "J" sound, here. However, as I see (some places) it's suppose to be "Yee-Row" or something. I don't care. When ordering cuisine, WHAT'S IMPORTANT IS THAT YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT, rather than "how it's supposed to be pronounced" in some other setting. So I say "JY-ROW" as opposed to "Yee-row," because what's important is that I get what I want (mispronouncing it like the last 100 ignoramuses did, even though I know better). Should I try to play fancy, I might end up with a "HERO" sandwich, something entirely different. What's important is that you know what I'm talking about, in this case, and in the case of Karataka. So if "Kah-raw-teh-kah" is incorrect, who cares, as long as you know which game I'm talking about? If on "Jeopardy" (or some other game show), it might be different......
  3. The only thing I can think of would be to acquire - and modify (if possible) something like the "Monitor Master" from Practical Peripherals. As you probably know, different lines were connected when either color or monochrome were connected. If you hit the button while the system is on (I didn't like doing that), the system would reboot. However, the Monitor Master has the rare 13-pin connectors, and could *possibly* be re-wired and repurposed to switch between 2 computers, with additional cabling. However, it would probably be easier and just as cheap to buy a 2nd SC1224, if you bide your time and wait for a bargain.
  4. I saw that story on Google News. What an interesting story, indeed!
  5. AGS-101 ("Brighter Screen") model GBA SP and Gameboy Everdrive are a match made in heaven. My choice, other than Gamecube and Gameboy player!
  6. Free bump for bradd1978. I bought one of his earlier AV-mod SMS (just like these) and it's a real quality piece of work. Very professional, and highly recommended. (much prefer this older SMS unit to the SMS2, btw)
  7. Curious question: for the "This thread needs to be locked" crowd..... WHY does this thread "need" to be locked? Usually, a thread is locked due to blatant disregard for AtariAge behavioral standards, etc...etc... So far, what we have here is a civil discussion about a real situation, and differing opinions - all stated in a civil manner - about it. So, what's the alleged reason for the proposed lock? YOU, PERSONALLY, don't want to read others discussing the topic in a civil manner? Please, disclose the reason and add to the the discussion. Or don't. Don't click on the topic. Whether you merely read the topic - or if you replied - you voluntarily clicked on it. Why? If the topic is distasteful to you, why do you click on it? Asking for the topic to be locked because you don't like it (yet somehow can't resist the mouse clicks to bring you to read it, and additional mouse clicks to reply in objection) is ridiculous. What are you doing here (voluntarily reading in the first place, and voluntarily replying in the second place) anyway? Locking threads on any forum are usually because of misbehavior, not because you don't like the topic, yet elected to click on it. Cite the alleged misbehavior that "should" result in this thread being locked. Or cite yourself for voluntarily clicking on something that you shouldn't have if you can't handle the discussion, yet want to shut others up who are behaving themselves while they discuss something in a civil manner that YOU don't want them to, and somehow can't resist but click on.
  8. I'm going to celebrate the Amiga 500 30th anniversary by firing up the A500 and HxC floppy emulator that I already own!
  9. I certainly can't vouch for whatever that 7800 deal was, but in my dealings with Ax, he always packed well, shipped fast, and the shit worked. I know that's just *my* experience, but it is as such. I'm thinking the floods and whatever else (health?) issues may have been just overwhelmingly bad luck, as he had a great reputation before whatever tragedies. However, I respect everyones' opinon as I put in my 2 cents (or half-a-cent).
  10. Amazing! Bravo! As usual, there's somebody (predictably) going to shit on it (as there is for everything), but since we know that beforehand, it doesn't matter. Very cool job, indeed!
  11. Hopefully, mine. I bought an extra Motherboard. Most likely (been a few years now) some cap will go south, and I'll put it on a "new" same motherboard.
  12. I can't believe the Atari ST is ***30 years old*** now. Never went TTor Falcoln, but the *original* 520ST/1040ST were a great machines for the time, and exceptional bang-for-the-buck deals.

The Atari 2600 is older than I am.

No classic videogame console is older than me! I made sure of that!

      Still love my 520ST :)

  13. I have to say, about this: I'm a skeptic. I can be negative. I fully-expected this to be a ruse. Having said that, I am (or have become, over a period that spans *decades*) a Nintendo fan. While I made fun of the original Gameboy, I still had fun playing games like Alleyway and Super RC Pro Am, to the point that I bought myself one of those dinosaurs. Next-up, I thought the Game Boy Color was a must-have. After that, the Game Boy Advance SP was the ass-kicker, and when the "New Brighter Screen" (model AGS-101) came out, it was a dream-come-true for portable gaming. Nintendo has held my attention in the portable-gaming department, ever since, with so many winnners. What's next? Probably the the Nintendo DS Lite; I don't instinctively buy every system. The DS Lite's screens were an order of magnitude better than the original DS. What next? Well, the DSi (original model) dropped Gameboy Advance support (major "Fuck You"), but the DSi XL had large, beautiful screens that drew me back in. By now, I'm into "XL" and don't give a shit about "standard" size DS units, so the 3DS XL was the next logical choice. Then there's this new upstart, the "New" 3DS XL. What's in a name? Well, considering Nintendo (in recent times), it's a stupid name. It is. Check. But it's an EXCELLENT unit! I have NO experience with the "new C-stick" and the "new Z-buttons." But the screen is FREAKIN' AWESOME. The 3D is much more easily-visible. The unit also boots and launches games noticibly quicker. The "New 3DS" is a winner. The name is a loser, as is the Wii U name. What's wrong with Nintendo's marketing department? "Wii 2" would have been clear. "3DS XL 2" would have been clear. Fortunately, the "New 3DS XL" rocks. I've never had a hard time selling my old Nintendo handhelds on Ebay, particularly beacause I take care of them and they sell as "like new." But even if they hadn't, I'm impressed with the 3D of the "New" 3DS XL. It's a winner.
  14. Old, original-model 410, the one that looked like this.... ...then Atari 1050. While I realized that I needed a disk drive, I was saving for (and hoping for) an Atari 810, as it matched my new (and expensive) Atari 800. However, as the price for the 810 was falling (from $600 to $500), they suddenly disappeared from the Air Force Exchange electronics section, only to be replaced by a 1050 at a launch price of $340. I'd already had that much saved up (and evidently 810s were gone), so 1050 it was. It shipped with DOS 2.0, so I didn't know what "Enhanced Density" was for a time. After mailing in the warranty card, Atari sent me DOS 3.0 free!!! Yipee!!! I actually used it, for a time!
  15. 8K 400. Even after a 48K upgrade ($190 in 1982 dollars!!!!!) I still couldnt' wait to get an 800 and have the flagship model.....until the 1200XL pissed on that dream, shortly after paying for an 800.
  16. Thanks to our pal and resident Atari8 expert/AtariAge user "Bryan," I'm going with the JVC TM-A13SU that he recommended to me a few (several?) years ago, and I havent' looked back. This 13" monitor is very similar to the fabulous Commodore 1702 (itself made by JVC) and offers all of that quality, plus notable features: - It is notably smaller and lighter than a same-size-screen 1702. 1702s are huge/heavy bastards. - It has full digital controls (including volume/etc) so there are no analog rheostats to get dirty/fail - It displays PAL (!!!) so feel free to import a Euro-Atari and run those demos and games on real hardware - It accepts composite and S-video both on the back, with an A / B switch on the front of the monitor. When combined with one of 8-bit Classics' fabulous composite/S-video cables, you can run S-video most of the time for clarity, and then push a button on the monitor to switch to composite for those times when artifacting is desired for color. Case in point, Choplifter: ----> On the front of the monitor. ----> On the back, both S-video and composite hooked up at the same time. ----> Choplifter through composite, with proper artifacting. ----> Choplifter through S-video, without the artifacting and less color.
  17. I used Atari 822 as my first printer. Although it was only 40-column and required thermal paper, it was much quieter, faster, and compact than the Atari 820. It offered bi-directional printing, unlike the 820. Although, I still like and would like to have an 820 (and another 822). No matter what the Atari-branded printer, an Epson FX-80 (or RX-80, or later MX-80 with graphics capibility) was the finest printer to hang off the side of your Atari. Speed, cheap ribbon, universal software compatibility, and legandary reliability made the Epson the one to have. Downside? Expensive.
  18. Glad to see Curt back on top of his game (and health), and this back on track!
  19. Once can tell by the title alone that this thread is pointless. Why am I commenting, then? Because I can.
  20. Interesting! However, it isn't THAT which I took issue with, so although it's somewhat-suprising, it's of little-to-no relvance to the issue. The issue was a claim that one could "clairvoyantly know" that THE REASON that U.S. Atari dealers were short-shipped Atari ST product was because they didn't pay their bills. Flying in the face of that is the well-documented (through magazines, testimony, personal experience) fact that Atari was a small company, there was a DRAM shortage, and the Euro market was more profitable and Atari threw the U.S. dealers to the wolves. Atari dealers, the ST computer line, and Atari Corp. themselves would eventually pay a price. Low post count, newbie, or whatever, it's ridiculous to claim one could "know" why (and specifically because those small businesses decided to shoot themselves in the foot by not paying their bills) other Atari dealers (with whom one had no contact nor information of whatsoever) weren't being shipped product. This is just common sense, if that's still fashionable. Newbie idiot perhaps not, but preposterous position, save for some supernatural clairvoyance, of which I'd like to see further evidence of.
  21. There is a lot of cross-interest between the Atari 8-bit and Atari ST, so it's great! Thanks for the heads-up. Just started listening, and it will take a while to get through the entire interview. The more, the better! Thanks for posting!
