  1. LOVE LOVE LOVE my transactions with Atarmax/Steve Tucker over the years. I feel quite lucky to have such folks so devoted to development and support of our favorite antique computer. It's been a long time since you could buy anything Atari8 at Walmart or Toys R Us, and all which that implies.
  2. It looks like I might have just made it? Payment sent for 2 carts. PM sent, as well, with details. Thanks!
  3. Looks like I missed the boat on this one, as well. However, I'd like to express interest, too. Thanks.
  4. Wow. Been away awhile. Would like to express interest in a unit, if possible. Bravo, on an excellent design!
  5. Wow, this is incredible ingenuity and workmanship! I really wish I needed it!!! I just have too much stuff already. Very incredible and professional level of detail! Price seems pretty good to me, too! Somebody's going to get a good deal. That's for sure!
  6. PM about Nintendo NES controller + receiver.
  7. WOW! I think I would like 2 of these!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!
  8. Oh man, I would have wanted this! Bravo to the purchaser!
  9. Cafeman, I am still SO interested in this! Please keep up the good work. I don't care how long it takes, but I will certainly be excited when it's available!!!!
  10. Wow! Lots of good things happen when you are not looking. Looking forward to this!
  11. I would like to express my interest in this. I have no Ballblazer cart (or will Commando work??) but I will start to look for one. What an outstanding project that I was not aware of! Bravo!! If you can make more, I am interested! What a showcase for the 7800!
  12. Been a while. Life's kept me away from AtariAge, but glad it's still here!

  13. I don't doubt it. See above, where I said the A500 came 2 years after the 520ST, and where I said the cheaper A500 should have been the launch machine. Now, back to 1985 reality, where Atari 520ST color retailed for $1000 and Amiga (with monitor) retailed for $1800.
  14. Does the new "Xbox One S" motivate you, at all? 4K only for menus and streaming, games still "only" 1080p.

Not really- "buy our new Xbox! It'll be obsolete in a year!" I'd rather wait to see just what Scorpio is.

Nope. All my hype is directed towards the NX at this point, though the PS4 does have some very tempting looking exclusives.

4K does nothing for me since I only have a 1080p HDTV, so like I said in another thread...I'll get a (now cheaper) standard X1 model and next year trade it in towards a Scorpio if it's worth it for the improved graphics.

  15. This thread is difficult to take seriously, because we have a bunch of emotional people on this issue. If the original poster’s question was answered honestly and succinctly, the answer would simply be “I did,” and that would be all. However, as one might have predicted, it has turned into another “Amiga vs ST” thread. Here are my observations: (1) I went with the ST because it was an Atari, because it was sold at my same Atari dealer, because others (friends and Atari User Group members) were getting one, AND IT WAS CHEAPER. MUCH CHEAPER. The **ORIGINAL** Atari ST machines – meaning the 520ST and 1040ST – were of absolutely incredible value. Money was tight as a kid in the mid-80s, and a dollar was worth significantly more, and was significantly harder to come by, back then. I see these horseshit “retrospective” articles, where they call the 80s “the era of excess” and I laugh. We’re living in the “era of excess” right now, where everybody has a $600 (and $50/month) phone on their hip, luxury SUVs with leather seats are common, and people on welfare have 65” flat screen TVs and HBO on cable. That’s “excess.” Money was tight in 1985 (by comparison), and the ST was cheap. $999 for a 520ST color system, vs. $1795 for a color Amiga 1000 with half the RAM. (2) Although I turned my nose up at the Amiga for a long time, I have since learned that it is, indeed, a wonderful machine. It’s a particularly wonderful game machine, and a better game machine than the ST. (3) Although the Amiga was a better game machine, the ST was a great game machine too. This category is not exclusive. (4) The ST “looked and felt” NOTHING like an Atari 8-bit computer. That’s one of the things that I didn’t like about it, and had a hard time adjusting to, as the Atari 8-bit was my first computer. (5) The Amiga “looked and felt” NOTHING like an Atari 8-bit computer, either. If the press didn’t tell you that Jay Miner was involved, you’d have never known. Much like using the ST, there is no Atari BASIC, no SIO beeps, etc. All this “feels like the successor to the 800” is complete horseshit. Nothing feels like an A8, but it is true that some of the designers of the A8 went on to this machine. (6) The *VAST* majority of Amiga owners that I knew (in the original era) were Commodore 64 owners. They bought it because it was the “next” Commodore machine. They didn’t give a shit (at all) about any “Jay Minor” or “Atari 8-bit legacy” bullshit. They didn’t have to. They simply enjoyed the machine, both as the “next” Commodore, and on its own merits. As well, they should have. (7) In the modern era, we get a bunch of weepy A8-to-Amiga converts that somehow feel the need to harp on this “Jay Minor/Atari 8-bit legacy” crap. Why? Who cares? As I said, using the Amiga (or the ST) looks and feels NOTHING like using the Atari 800, and nothing can compare to the Atari 800. As I said, the majority of Amiga owners were C64 converts who didn’t give a shit, nor should they have. Is there some latent guilt, for “abandoning” the Atari name? Why does this shit keep coming up? ( 8 ) I have an Amiga 500 now (thanks, save2600) and I dug it out recently and it’s great, on its own merits! It’s kind of ugly (it looks like a C128), but the games are really fun. I’m quite sure I’d have been happy with it instead of the ST, if I’d have had it in the old days. The A500 was a much better deal than the original Amiga, but it was about 2 years after the 520ST. (9) I also have a Commodore 64 now (in the modern era) and it’s a pretty good game machine. If I’d have had one of these instead of my Atari 8-bit, I’d probably have been pretty happy with it. Hell, my next Commodore machine probably would have been an Amiga, and I’d have been happy with it too, and I certainly wouldn’t have given a shit about this “Jay Minor/A8 legacy” crap. (10) I’m happy with the way things turned out. I enjoyed the A8 immensely. I missed it when I got the ST, but nothing else was like the A8 anyway. The ST was all I could afford, was fun, and was a great value. The Amiga was a better game machine, but was just as alien to this A8 user as was the ST, and it was too expensive. The A500 came too late; it should have been the launch machine. Claims that the 1040ST would “bomb daily” is complete horseshit. Sorry. Such lies aren’t necessary to prove your emotional preference. Neither is bullshit like claiming "the ST was a step backwards" from the A8. It may not be your favorite choice, but that is a shithead thing to say, from any reasonable perspective.
  16. The "vnaguy" rant was about the mildest, most level-headed "rant" that I've ever seen. What a nice guy! Hardly a rant. I guess I can't help but "pile on," and say that selling his stuff is a real small-ball, low-down gutter-trash move. But also, the fact that the guy who OWNS GAMEGAVEL uses Ebay to generate some quick (and illegitimate, as it were) cash - is quite telling, indeed. This should be part of a videogame news story. Basically, it's a quiet admission that even the owner of Gamegavel knows that's it's a worthless piece of shit and a waste of time for sellers to even list there, or he'd be listing there, himself. Instead, he'd rather list on Ebay and even pay their formidable fees, because he'll still get more for his stolen shit than if he listed it on his desolate, bullshit auction site. Telling, indeed. Quite a vote of confidence for Gamegavel, directly from the man at the helm.
  17. I am in the process of reducing the collection, due to a complete lack of time (like 4 years since I played with my ST stuff). I *think* I have 2 1040STes. I will have to look, to be sure. I think so, I think one is boxed and the other is not, but they are both really nice (no yellowing, nice, if memory serves). I will have to dig 'em out and take some nice (direct sunlight) pictures, so condition can be truly assessed. I have so much stuff that I haven't used in so long (and so may other worries now), that I can't remember, exactly. I live in Tennessee. All this stuff is going to Ebay soon, but if you're looking, I'll test 'em out and post some pictures here, first. I am going to place these systems (along with some more 1040STe, 1040STfm, 520STfm, 520STm, SF314, Indus GT-like drive for ST, Spectre GCR, programming languages, books, etc) on Ebay this summer, starting soon.
  18. Can't believe the quality and frequency of the interviews! BRAVO!!!!! (also can't believe the beard. Always imagine the "Terrible Nerd" as being youthful and smooth-faced!!!
  19. I have one of these, and it's really nice! But I am thinking you are probably in Europe (or somewhere far away from Yankees) and the shipping would be prohibitively-expensive. Tell me you live in Georgia (the Yankee state, not the country)?????
  20. PM incoming. I have 2 Mega STe units that I just don't have time to use.
  21. AWESOME INTERVIEW!! Hopefully, Glenn will become an AtariAge member, buy an SIO2PC, and then crack those MECC disks!!!!!
  22. Wow, so many absolutely smashing interviews, lately!!! I tend to kind of agree with the above - staying "strictly" to the Atari8-specific discussion is a bit myopic. I would venture to say that most of us are interested (even if we don't own that system) Atari as an entity, entirely. Also, I AM NOT CRITICIZING, BUT RATHER PRAISING THE ANTIC CREW for their *excellent interviews!!! Especially in the later interviews, stuff about Atari Corporate, stuff about Warner, stuff about Atari Coin-Op was discused. As an avid A8 enthusiast, I'M EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN THIS STUFF and I am glad that the Antic team was so cool to entertain such discussion on those topics. I don't own a single Atari coin-op product, but *anything* you can glean from these fine fellows is still interesting, to an A8 fanatic. It's all part of the same company and a piece of the same puzzle. I mean, the least of the Atari systems that I'm interested in is the Jaguar, but if you managed to get some great discussion from some fine folks who worked on the system, I'm all ears!! I'd love to hear about it! While you have these titans on the horn, let's hear about the entire company (and their efforts) that produced our favorite computers. If it wasn't for the home videogame and coin-op divisions, there would never have been a computer division. They are inexorably intertwined. They are all interesting. Even the ST (even if you don't care too much about it) is historically related to the A8, as if ST sales hadn't sustained the company, it would have all ended in 1985. And to take the other tack, if some interviewee ventures off into Amiga territory (or whatever territory), I'd SURE like to hear that, too. But once again, this really isn't criticism - but praise - for what you're already doing. Thank you! These interviews are one-of-a-kind and certainly rock!
  23. I hope Good Samaritans will continue to cross-post relevant information. I know I'm in the minority (and thus a social outcast) but Facebook still seems abhorrent and unnecessary to me. Time will tell if I have to "give over to the dark side."
  24. Fuck that political bullshit. It's "allegedly" against the rules here......
