  1. Ha!

So the the theory now is that TakeTwo intends to acquire the DNF source code and rights to the franchise through a damages settlement and finish the game! Don't they understand all coding and development work took place on a violated ancient Indian burial ground and it will only bring a terrible fate upon those who meddle with it?

Maybe they can hold some sort of digital exorcism involving cigars and a holy stripper...

  2. The point about points is not just that it makes everything appear cheaper, but also, it creates a divide/abstraction between real world money and Microsoft's online currency.

If a game was labeled to cost "$9.99" instead of "800 Points" the buyer would be more likely to draw comparisons with real-world objects or services which he could buy for the same amount.

  3. I love the fact that DNF's development time has exceeded the amount of time it took from Kennedy's challenge to the time man set foot on the moon.

Some version of the game will have to get leaked now that the company is no more.

The thing that gets me is that 3DRealms obviously COULD get games out the door as they actually did produce many other titles during this period, so what was so special about this project that made it near-impossible to bring to market :?:

  4. Thought some of you might find think this pretty cool. Video from a game developers conference of a new game which uses innovative shadow casting to change-up the traditional platformer genre. Don't know what systems will be supported, but it's running on a current gen MacBook Pro in the vid.

  5. Apparently, OLED built into glasses have an amazing range of contrast, color and luminance, and can refresh at a rate fast enough to to avoid making people sick. I personally feel that that or a system which directs laser beams into your eyes will be the nearest future of truly immersive VR.

As for the deep future, if you can make it to around 2045, many well-qualified futurists have predicted that synchronized sub-atomic robots will be able to re-arrange matter on the fly. In addition to small side benefits, such as eternal life, one could actually "one-up" the HoloDeck concept in that the objects created would actually be real and could leave the "game".

  6. I hope it's not too late for me to join... Although I might need to be connected to an IV to withstand sixteen hours of playing Defender with no break...

You also need a "Stadium Buddy"

I believe the most often used technique is that one builds up so many extra ships that they can run at top speed to the john and relieve themself without really endangering their game. Seeing as how many arcade operators may not take kindly to someone visibly peeing into a crouch-mounted plastic container, adult diapers may sadly be another sensible option.

Maybe they would be seen as cooler if the diapers had graphics from various popular games?

"Relax and drop an Asteroid in your Atari Diapers!" :ponder:

  7. I was so hardcore into the Dreamcast that I bought the first Japan imported system for an embarrassing amount back in the day. I bought two games with it but we couldn't figure out how to play them because they were in Japanese!

The system is awesome over all and does have some "clinkers", just like any other system, but there are a lot more playable games than bad ones.

My personal favorite was Hydro Thunder, which just handles perfectly on the system ("YOU'RE CRAZY!!!"). House of The Dead 2 is also a lot of fun, with the light gun, ofcourse.

BTW- Avoid "Slave Zero". What a horrible excuse for a game...
