3D Models of Atari Computers & Peripherals
Kripto replied to UNIXcoffee928's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
How about patent drawings? Those are pretty much perfect. I'll probably throw something together tomorrow. -
3D Models of Atari Computers & Peripherals

If someone can post links to blueprints of the systems, ideally straight-on top/front/side drawings, I would create at least a few. -

I didn't find any classic NES systems on WalMart.com but thought this was pretty interesting- -
walmart offering vintage nes?
Kripto replied to CARTRIDGE STEALER's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, remember last year when that guy got trampled and killed at Wal Mart on Black Friday? Where can I get a decent suit of armor for cheap? -
Human Wrecking Balls smash arcade games on G4

Man, though guys are a giant sack of stupid. Isn't this the kind of show that would be on TV in the Movie Idiocracy? -
Human Wrecking Balls smash arcade games on G4
Kripto replied to Random Terrain's topic in Arcade and Pinball
They'll probably be destroying non-functional, common machines. While that's certainly not a good thing, I'm sure we won't be seeing them drop kick the screen of a Fonz or Marble Man cabinet... -

It sucks that they're doing this but atleast the custom motorcycle and tattoo-themed reality shows seem to be fading away.. -
Nice emulation, although Crystal Castles suffers from the transition from trakball to keyboard.

What's the message behind having "Game Over" on your underwear? It just can't be good...

That's what I'm doing right now and my response to your question is- "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.... eh, NO." I don't mean to be rude but iPhone development even using Unity from a cold start would probably take over a year of concentrated effort. There are many hoops to jump through and device particular issues. My favorite part though is that you at least know the basic capabilities of your target platform, unlike developing for desktops. The web aspect of Unity is very cool but I would suggest most people would have fun making standalone apps for Mac and PC.

Jurassic: The Hunter just announced: releases in 3 weeks
Kripto replied to vdub_bobby's topic in Modern Console Discussion
It's out on all platforms at the same price. So I don't know why you're calling out Nintendo... I'm just using Nintendo as an example. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all do it. It won't last forever though... -

On a platform with only downloads, this could be five bucks and would be worth it. I've read, however, that Nintendo demands up to $30 a copy for each game sold on its' platform (with some exceptions). That will keep medium and low quality games costing too much for a while yet. -
I know lets make a FORTRAN Programming Cartridge

I've always wanted a super-detailed realtime simulation of drying paint. -
Nice update. Thanks!

Stella sound or real Atari 2600 sound with bacon?
Kripto replied to Random Terrain's topic in batari Basic
You should be able to get a program which will intercept and record the audio from Stella on its way to the sound card. The results would be as clear as possible. -
It's actually my main dev tool right now and it's pretty amazing. Its primary language is a mutated version of Javascript but you can also code in C# or Boo. Games can be released and sold(!) as standalone apps for Mac or PC. (optional support for iPhone, Wii and soon XBox 360) It does not do asset creation however, so you should be handy with PhotoShop, audio editing, and a 3D app of your choosing (Maya is the most compatible but many are used.) The user community is second to none and filled with helpful people. If you want to make 3D games, I can think of no better option, and it's effin' free...

No No no. Is Truly free. As of yesterday. just register it. Here's the news story http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS217443+28-Oct-2009+PRN20091028

Greetings All, Just thought all the game devs here would be interested in knowing that the excellent 3D/2D cross-platform game developing software unity has now become free (used to be $200 about 24 hours ago...) I've been using it for about two years now and love it. The editor runs on either Mac or PC and it can export standalone applications for either. You can grab it for free at http://unity3d.com/ EDIT- YOU MUST REGISTER IT UNDER THE UNITY MENU AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. THIS IS NOT A DEMO.

Any intention to cover Propeller Arena? Although Hydro Thunder was my favorite.

And it's not even a heavy sixer! Oh well.

Anyone who's done any significant amount of coding should realize the suffering invited and time wasted by writing poorly organized/undocumented code. Friends don't let friends!

Why does Hozer have such a hideous Logo/Mascot? It looks like someone who's had a dog's brain transplanted into their skull and is now on the verve of soiling themselves.

One cool thing about AstroSmash (which was the Intellivision pack-in for a while), was that it was originally a bad rip-off of Asteroids. Fearing a lawsuit, Mattel had the programmer write a new game which was different enough to not land them in court, that was AstroSmash. Because the original game and AstroSmash both used the same graphics and were small enough, they are both actually on every AstroSmash cartridge. The Asteroids clone is able to be accessed only if a freak memory error occurs, similar to "frying" on the 2600. If someone knows another way to get at it, please let me know.

The major issue I see here simply involves bad game design and designers trying to shove a square peg into a round hole in terms of game control. I personally feel that the best strategy is too play to the strengths of the target platform, versus attempting to turn it into something it is not. A good example would be the many iPhone games which have five or more virtual buttons on screen at all times, making them a hassle to play.
