  1. Creating products which upset consumers is not good for the economy. Reading this story gave me a negative vibe about Sony, this game and the advertiser, making me less likely to give my money to any of them.
  2. Corporate greed seems to know no limits, and it wasn't even a cool ad...
  3. The story on SiniStar, which I saw in a video included with a Williams classics collection on the Saturn, was that the arcade machine was initially made to be quite playable but that arcade operators demanded that the average game last two minutes or less(!) whereas most other machines provided an average playtime of a little over three minutes. So the programmers went back and changed the game into the evil, relentless monster that we all know today. One of the original programmers said that he probably has a copy of the original ROMs and would like to release them at some point as that he felt that was when the game was closest to perfection. I would imagine that the legality of his releasing them would be very unpleasant, but feel that they should be included on one of the countless classics collections released every year.
  4. Robotron's difficulty depends entirely on the maintnance mode settings which can make it a ruthless, bastard of a game when set to "10 Extra Conservatve". It is still playable for long periods with enough practice. I strongly agree with Super Cobra but know I'm forgetting about several smaller run games.
  5. What about Robotron? That game becomes a truly evil bastard after a few levels. I would also add Super Zaxxon which moves so quickly, it would be frilly amazing to see someone go over five minutes on it.
  6. Strange. I could have sworn it showed up on "View New Posts"...
  7. I have one of these adaptors and just wanted to say that it excellent and is the one officially reccomended for use withtbe Cantenna, with which it works extremely well.
  8. Well some insane, masochistic S.O.B. has managed to get a "web browser" going on the lowly Apple II so that comparatively space age SE should have no problem...
  9. I was helping my sister throw her garbage out in Manhattan and saw a thin plastic corner which I knew was the edge of a sunflower/iLamp iMac. Took it out of the trash and nursed it back to health. Now it runs WipeOut and sone emulators as the heart of my workout entertainment system. Ain't nothin' wrong with free! A truly beautiful screen as well!
  10. Art which contains large staring eyes is often associated with paranoid schizophrenia. Maybe someone at Atari was off their meds when the Jag was being planned?
  11. That's a step-sequencer. Reason isn't referred to as a "tracker" is it? I see that the term has taken hold in the home brew community for some reason though. Damn the unofficial and their deviant terminology!
  12. You mean a "sequencer"/synthesizer, correct? A "tracking" program would focus on recording audio from an external source, which I don't believe is what you mean. I think you'll also find that most people with the skillset needed to create such a program will have no shortage of ideas or pending projects taking up their time. Best of luck though.
  13. From a deeply cynical perspective, this is actually quite good for "real" musicians... If some kid's musical aspirations are channeled into Guitar Hero versus eventually buying a real instrument, forming a band and putting out records, that means less financial competition for those made by Jack Black and Page... My actual opinion is that people try to hold onto the past time and time again in our rapidly changing times, and I have almost never seen that strategy generate a positive outcome. If they truly want to encourage musicianship and aren't simply paying faux-noble lip service, they should attempt to do so through the popular media of today. Make an actual guitar learning game if that's how you feel. They certainly have the bucks and stature.
  14. It's amazing what people will throw out thinking it's broken. A few weeks ago I found a 17-inch "sunflower/iLamp" iMac in the trash of my sister's building. Mint condition. The "issue" was that someone had inserted an incompatible system disk into the drive, which it was trying to startup from. Took the disk out and everything works perfectly!
  15. You guys have no idea what you're talking about... The IBM PS/2 is the future of computing, as can be seen in this lovely video clip- http://www.archive.org/details/IBMPerso1987
  16. Actually, I'm pretty sure IBM still makes normal PCs. You just don't see them as much these days. I was surprised as well, but according to their site what IBM sells new are servers and serious rackmount and freestanding machines. They sold their laptop division to an Asian company (Lenova) and are still selling refurbished PCs that are IBM-branded. No new IBM personal computers however. Strange but true.
  17. It would be especially weird to use the term "IBM Compatible" today as that IBM stopped making personal computers in 2005!
  18. Check out this video of a supposedly 360-generated "virtual friend" named Milo. Anybody know what the additional block on top of the 360 is? http://www.offworld.com/2009/06/e309-first...f-lionhead.html
  19. That's pretty surreal. I remember being in arcades like that outside of the main cities of Greece in the early '80s. In fact, I never saw a single licensed machine there.
  20. Barn Storming is a great looking game, like most from Activision, but suffers from not enough variety in game play. If it had a few more obstacle types and maybe a second stage type, it would be a gazillion times more enjoyable.
  21. Someone just pointed out to me that the sensor unit has it's own optimized processor, so that makes it somewhat more likely to work in my mind. However, as that it doesn't come standard with the 360, it means they'll be a smaller market for developers to sell to and it may well suffer the fate of other famous system add-ons such as the Jag CD, SNes SuperScope, etc.
  22. The amount of CPU power needed for the kind of shape recognition they showed is quite serious and I simply doubt the 360 would be able to handle it with accurate, fast results as shown in the video. My guess is that their PR department decided to "steal the thunder" of their competitors with this currently unavailable product.
  23. The Y cable will work but will dirty up the sound somewhat. If you care enough about the audio quality, a cheap switcher or mixer will provide better sound for several times more money.
  24. I'm really amazed at how far GameShark GoldenEye hacking has come. I thought it was deep when I was doing it in the 90's...
  25. Hey, at least it's the more-authentic first edition FlashBack...
