Magnavox Odyssey 2 Voice module is quiet
Rob Mitchell replied to Sam Bushman's topic in Odyssey 2 / Videopac
I just bent back the tabs which hold the slider together, removed the board from the back, ran my finger over the board which removed some of the carbon, applied some dielectric grease to the board and reassembled. I hope that makes it work well. It is the cheapest slider they could have provided. If this doesn't work, may have it replace it with a good quality slider or a potentiometer on the side of the voice. -
My power switch is a little flaky so I finally got at it by removing the silver bezel off the black keyboard. There are seven lock discs which are relatively easy to remove with good needle nose pliers. You squeeze the little tabs together to lift the discs off the silver posts. After removing all seven lock discs, the silver bezel separates off easily to reveal the two screws which hold the power switch in place. Using needle nose pliers, I removed the contact board from the switch, sanded the dirty contacts and the contact plate to make them shiny, applied dielectric grease to the metal surfaces, reassembled and good to go. Easy to do. I made the mistake of assembling the switch backwards, see this pic for the correct way.

Modded my Odyssey 2 to use Atari Joysticks
Rob Mitchell replied to toymailman's topic in Odyssey 2 / Videopac
I have my O2 totally apart in preparation to recap it, add Atari controller inputs to the front and AV out. Mine has detached controllers .. so I will solder wires to the bottom of the circuit board for my controller ports. (Atari in the front and O2 in the back). -

I currently have my O2 Voice apart to recap soon. Were you able to peel back the decal without destroying it? -

Rob Mitchell replied to Charlie_'s topic in Dedicated Systems
Adding to this thread about the power button switch for the C-380. These are available at Best Electronics: "the New Atari C-380 Locking / latch On/Off Switches are in stock. Cost is only U$D 3.95 each." -
I bought a square plastic basin, inverted it, drilled holes through which I run Velcro straps to hold the two padded in place. Works great!

I like Marble Craze .. I have the two paddles mounted 90 degrees to each other to play the marble tilt game.

What joystick/control pad do you use for your 2600?
Rob Mitchell replied to The Mr. Video's topic in Atari 2600
This is a great idea! And much better than my single paddle where I cut off the other controller at the plug! -

That game is called Catch. I remember being disappointed in 1977 when that game was missing on the Pong Sports, Video Olympics cart. This Pong is messed up! I wonder what the problem could be? I will have to look at a circuit diagram.

Miss Ball for High Score ? Last night my girlfriend and I pulled out my Sears Tele-Games Super Pong IV ... Every time either of us missed the ball, our score would increment! I'm like, "That's not right!" She said, "That's how I remember it. Low score wins." So we pulled out several Pong clones which of course increment scoring correctly. Anyone else have a similar problem?? BTW She plays a mean game of Pong!

APF TV Fun Repair - No Visible Paddles?
Rob Mitchell replied to mikey.shake's topic in Dedicated Systems
Tonight I pulled out two APF TV Fun units to test. The more primitive of the two has the built in paddles which work. (401A) The more advanced one (402E) would not display color. Only the remote paddles worked. We could not get the two console paddles to respond. My guess is dirty pots which keep the paddles off the screen, I will clean them and see if I can get all four paddles up and working .. -
WTB: Atari 2600 initial 1977 release carts. Back in the day I had these .. And later when collecting them I had these .. So I moved and downsized. Now I would like to share the joy again with my girlfriend. I have Air Sea Battle. Anyone have spares? Thanks Rob Mitchell

You pull the knob forward and it will come off.

As you know, the original 1976 Exidy Death Race uses two steering wheels to drive down the gremlins. Is there an option to use the Atari Driving Controller for these homebrews?

Ralph H. Baer Passes Away at 92

I heard the news on the BBC which interviewed the editor of Retrogamer Magazine. Sad news. I enjoyed reading my signed copy of his book. -
Recently I've been playing my own complete working Dark Tower game with friends. There's an app for iPad iPhone which emulates the tower and peg cards. All one needs is a photocopy of the game board and some game pieces and the game can be played.
