  1. I can pretty much agree with that. I think there were maybe 5 games that you could even say would take advantage of it. If Atari had provided a 'oh by the way, these buttons will eventually be mapped here, so make sure strafe is 5/7' or something similar, then it probably would have been better. I don't think there was any sort of guidelines though. When I first got my Jaguar, I also got the CD with it, my younger brother just got the Jag system, and we got the Jaglink and each got a copy of Doom to play... then ran into the awesome bug that resets the level... our intentions were to try to beat it on nightmare, but nope! He eventually sold off his Jaguar+games, probably right before Atari had merged with JTS. But in the meantime I had bought the Pro controller, so I have the Pro and the Non-Pro for when we play two player. I really wanted to see what the PowerPad looked/felt like so I have one of those now too! If you're a hard core collector that occasionally likes to fire up the games, then it'd probably be worth it. For a casual gamer, probably not. Do we have a list of games that make proper use of it?
  2. If I recall correctly, the card based ones were usually like 'eco' games. Cheap little things, they had less storage space, cheaper to make, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_Card
  3. I thought that too. I know this is an Atari forum, so probably the wrong place to ask, but who would you really want to come back with hardware more, Atari or Sega? I actually went Atari, Atari, Sega, Sega, Atari, PC. (2600, 800XL, SMS, Genesis, MegaSTe, Generic beige box)
  4. Agreed. I had forgotten they'd done a 'reboot' of Star Raiders, but I heard it was terrible.
  5. Spinal Tap: The Rock/Mockumentry!
  6. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Atari-Jaguar-Pro-Controller-Box-Only-NO-CONTROLLER-ULTRA-RARE/222456967564?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D45041%26meid%3Db3151b025553475ba5f3c2ec9c71ffcd%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D332305635820 You can buy the box for it too! Edit: sorry, I already posted that. I actually think I still have the box for mine, and I know I have the controller. Granted, if I were in the market to sell my Jaguar stuff, I'd probably do it as one large bundle, and with these prices I could probably buy a decent car with it! Insane...
  7. I've thought this too! Would be interesting to see it remade with an engine similar to Baldur's Gate, or even something like Divine Divinity. Knowing our luck though, they'd get Fireworld, Earthworld and Waterworld done, then a video game crash would happen before Airworld.
  8. So with the statement from current Atari about the ataribox being talked about supporting old games and modern ones, if you could think of some games that weren't quite what they could have been by Atari, and get them updated so they meet modern expectations, what would they be? We could all say E.T. of course, give it more than a few months to bake this time.. But my favorite 'almost there' game was Club Drive on the Jaguar. Loved the game, but it needed more levels and better control, with a higher frame rate. I recently bought the new Micromachines game, and thought it'd be similar, but it's all about online racing, and doesn't have any sort of free roam mode like Club Drive did. It was remembered as a terrible game but a lot of people, but it always felt like one that could have been much more enjoyable had the game had more time to develop, and the Jag wasn't so hard to develop for.
  9. Exactly this. If this is an Android based system, I'll pass. If it's a Windows based system, I'll pass. If it's a Linux based system, I'm in, or if it's a custom OS, I'm in. Then gain, if it's x86_64 based with a way to install something else if it comes with Windows/Android, I'll be in too. At that point it can replace my Raspberry Pi 3 in a mini NES-like case.
  10. Nah, you're more like Iron Man, except instead of building cool suits and weapons, you build ST upgrades! Ha, sorry, just got back from Spiderman: Homecoming, that movie was fantastic!
  11. All the crowdfunding projects I have backed at least had a very detailed list of what it was, without that they look way too much like fluff. From the sound of things Atari themselves are readiing the community forums and coming up with ideas through it... but they had to of had an idea for this to begin with. Face it, a bunch of us will probably end up buying it, hoarding it with all of our other Atari stuff, and then whining that it failed 20 years from now because we didn't do anything else with it... so the Atari cycle continues... By the way, it apparently hit TV news here in Utah. That is pretty crazy!
  12. Kickstarter IS crowdfunding. It all depends on state of the product... so it could be a 100% completed product, but they need the funds to get it mass produced. Otherwise it'll be like some of the community products, where they make 20, sell out, need to do another run, and then make 20 more, only to sell 2.... or something like that.
  13. Crowdfunding is kind of weird. So for something like Super Troopers 2, I was totally in. Broken Lizard are genuinely funny guys and we all know Hollywood is only interested in giant block busters, or pointless reboots these days. Again, Wasteland 2 and Bard's Tale IV, I jumped on those as well, since those are epic games that needed to be made, and Brian Fargo knows how to present things! Both of those are basically because publishers wouldn't fund them because they don't match the easy street of automatic money, like a Marvel movie, or another Call of Duty. Atari IS a publisher, and one that hasn't had a good track record in it's latest iteration of being terribly friendly to the Homebrew community, so do they deserve our support? Strong Maybe.... If their idea is to create an Android based system.. I'm out. Android is a terrible platform (not that iOS is any better). That leaves using Windows/Linux. I'd be okay with Linux, if it's a Windows gaming system... I have one of those already. On the other hand, they could potentially have been working for the past few years on a BSD based system, like the PS4 is. I'd be good with that as well.
  14. So stoked to see Super Troopers 2 (I backed that one). Sadly, Oculus was bought out by Facebook...
  15. Even better would be some sort of boot key combo to bring up a menu on which TOS to flash to the ROM, then you could flip between them fairly easily. But yes, also be able to add in newer EmuTOS versions.
  16. Hmm, so going from the render/picture, it looks like that (left to right) the ports on the back are USB, USB-C(?), USB, Power(?), Ethernet, USB, HDMI, USB, Micro SD card. So that's 4xUSB ports, HDMI, ethernet, MicroSD and maybe power or maybe Wifi antennae? USB-C (if that's what it is) could be the power. So for 'Modern' games, it'd have to have an internal hard drive, and no physical media, unless of course you'll be able to buy box copies with a microSD card in it (which is kind of brilliant actually, since you can get rather large ones these days, but then they still probably have too high of a failure rate for most people to be comfortable with. This means some sort of digital game store, which of course is what some rumors were pointing to anyhow. Guess they can make these cheaper, since they won't have to bother with a Bluray license, and some of the other things you get with a PS4/Xbox One.
  17. Someone needs to take these renders and put a cartridge slot and toggles on it.
  18. What, no HTC Vive in there? SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! (sorry, just finished a Game of Thrones marathon)
  19. Ha, including the 8-bit stuff that requires a VBXE, and more memory! Jaguar might be a hard one, since I don't think any emulation is quite 100% there, right? Last time I used Virtual Jaguar (not too long ago) it was pretty hit and miss. Not everything from the Falcon works either. I'm looking forward to whatever they have. Personally I think we need another in the hardcore platform space. Maybe if they still have the IP for Adventure we can get Adventure 3 with fully modern graphics, procedurally generated maps and Vulkan API? Hey, if we're allowed to dream. (Hell, I'm still dreaming about Adventure II XE...)
  20. Ha, my modem history... Atari XM301 300 Baud (still have it), some 1200 Baud thing.. damned if I can remember the model... 3 days straight of trying to download a 1mb demo on my ST... just to have it not work... (Dark Side of the Spoon, doesn't work on the Mega STe... ) and then went to a 19.2 Supra (still have that one too), then my USRobotics 56k modem, lent it to a friend because he needed one and I had 1mb DSL by then. Pretty sure I can type faster than the 300 Baud could send, and possibly close to how fast a 1200 Baud will....
  21. Maybe it was one of the other threads where I posted my thought that it could be basically a SteamOS with RetroArch added in as a launcher. That would cover a lot of things.
  22. I just (re)bought Ultra Vortek! But do not have the Voice Modem.
