I LOVED my USRobotics modem. Actually worked where they were being manufactured for a very short time. I can't recall though if it was before or after 3Com bought them.

-
Ah yes! I always forget about MESS for some reason. It supports just about everything anyhow.
-
Ha ha, like that Seinfeld episode? "No, Jerry is dating a really attractive woman."

Rub the wood grain and a Genie pops out? What would be nice is a SteamOS that is customized with a skin and launchers for all the emulators (hatari, atari800, stella, etc). Though I think I've looked around and couldn't find a Linux emulator for the 7800, except for libretro library.
-
I think I would buy one unless for one reason... if they do something foolish like lock down the boot loader and put Windows 10 S on it, then hope to sell all their games through the Windows Store.... otherwise if it's a PC in a cool case, I may have reason to buy such a thing.

I still think they should get some Valve money and build an Atari Steam Machine. I'd get one for sure. Unfortunately that'll probably make it semi-pricey, since anything playing modern games is going to take more power. But those rendered cases look sweet. Though several of my coworkers and myself agree, it needs toggle switches on top

I have RetroArcade on my HTC Vive, and while exploring through some of the pre-made arcades, I know there is a NES you can pick up cartridges and put in for games, but I'm sure someone could add old Atari systems to it as well, since it just uses the libretro libraries.

I would disagree with that. The 2600 and the XL/XE line in the very least were both worked on by Jay Miner. Who went on to work on the Amiga. The ST has more heritage from the C64. But it's not like they just kept re-inventing new ideas and people for every new system. Experience kept bleeding from one project to another.

Nice, now that I've rewatched Game of Thrones and the last episode... time to finish catching up on Twin Peaks...

Been watching too much Game of Thrones lately, I totally read that as "the old gods and the new."

Wasn't a big part of the failure of the Lynx and the Jaguar due to Atari having annoyed a lot of retailers during the 7800/xegs days? I seem to recall reading about that somewhere. Between treating third party developers like crap, and pissing off retail chains, their products just weren't available in all that many places. Pre-internet, there was nowhere for people to get them even if they wanted to.... granted, now everything is going digital anyhow.... I still got two Lynxes, each with SD cards!

The 1084S monitor is 9pin RGB, if I recall, and the Amiga works with the 23 to 9-pin cable. So if the adapter that you have is the DB19 to DB15, wouldn't that be the VGA adapter, and not the RGB one? I have a similar adapter I bought from Best, but I can't remember if the packaging said 'ST Video Adapter' like yours does. This is my Atari VGA adapter, and next to it is the 3-in-1 VGA adapter from http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=31453 If he still has some, maybe pick up one of those?

Didn't MultiTOS eventually use the MMU?

Ha, I think the only alternative universe theory that would have saved anything Atari related was if they had actually respected developers worth a damn. I've read way too many stories about Atari promising money to companies, but never giving it out. JagVR is definitely one of the big ones where they never paid for any of the research. I guess two things could have saved the Jaguar. 1) Money 2) Developers Maybe if Atari had been bought out by a powerhouse rather than merging with a hard drive manufacturer (a barely known one at that), the tech could have been improved for another generation of Atari consoles... They had pissed off way too many developers, even before the Jaguar. From what I understand, it's why the C64 had much longer support than the Atari 8-bits.

Sounds like (from earlier in this thread) he intends to release it for the computer after the exclusivity with Sony ends. But pretty sure the controller is a PS4 dual shock one. I played it on my standard PS4, it's even a fairly small game (I think it said it was 269mb or something). So very fun though! I should fire up T2K and see if the level layout is in the same order, I only managed to make it to level 6 last night. First game in a long time that made me scream out for my mommy. Ha!

I -war is kind of crap. Polybius is very much more like Tempest 2000, even the level layout is the same, if it weren't for the resolution, high framerate and 3D on it, Jag could handle it (since then it really would be a slightly different game.) I speak with at least the experience of one who has now played both. Polybius (and T2K for that matter) are both brilliant games. May have to get a PSVR now... My brother and I just spent the last few hours playing it on my 3D tv, and it was amazing.

From everything I had read on Black Ice/White Noise, it would have been absolutely amazing and ground breaking. From what it looked like, basically an early version of Watch Dogs, where (unlike GTA) you could go inside of buildings. I don't know if they had a car driving mechanic, but truthfully in a proper Cyberpunk game, there are so many damn people, most probably walk and take mass transit...

The Atari VR - Very Retro..?

Ha, yeah that link I posted had that image in there. 'Property of U.S. Government'

Ha, I had no idea this had such a weird story around it! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-05-22-polybius-the-story-behind-the-worlds-most-mysterious-arcade-cabinet This really does look like something that could/should be on the Jaguar. I'm guessing Trent Reznor new about the story and heard about the game being released so made a video/song about it? Either that or Sony is his publisher, so they hooked something up. But several things that I found funny from the video, 1) the game was played on an old school CRT instead of a new widescreen flat screen. 2) It looked like here and there it was showing bits of old school arcade hardware. Good song though, NiN sounds like they've improved from being all about being angry at the world to be a bit more artistic. I guess one other possibility of how this happened, Jeff Minter and Trent Reznor are best friends because the VLM was so awesome to listen to NiN on. Edit: Is this the only PS4 game that supports a 3D TV? There were quite a few on the PS3, but this is the only one I've seen that supports it on the PS4.

This sounds awesome! So I'm guessing by STFM though it'll have floppy and RF Modulator. I would hope the video output would at least be improved to have built in 31khz rather than 15khz (which solves a huge gap due to lack of monitors). If it's just a replacement motherboard, keeping it with the ST form factor would be key. If I wanted a STFM in an ATX case, I'd just run emulators

Ha, yeah the Spork has been around for along time, though I'd never have thought that long ago... I think Atari needs to track down the woman in this ad and bring her back for the new one!

Games that work well/benefit from Accelerated ST?
leech replied to Xebec's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Everyone should try out the improved OIDS, it's phenomenal work. This would be a cool list, in the case of OIDS, it used to be unplayable on a faster system (in my case I tried it on the TT before it was tweaked/patched to work correctly on it.) I have been pretty amazed at the games that actually run better rather than scary fast. One that still runs too fast was 1943 (or was it 1942) that one was way too fast on the TT as well. -
Let's play a new game; If you could take one piece of current tech back in time to the mid-70s to give to Nolan Bushnell, what would it be?
