Sad but true. I have been slowly but surely filing in the holes in my Jaguar collection. Recently added Space Ace and Dragon's Lair, then came to see right afterward that they released Dragon's Lair for Linux and are planning on releasing part 2 and Space Ace as soon as they get all the engine bugs fixed out of that one. I wonder if anyone could 'port' the second Dragon's Lair to the Jag by using whatever engine they used for the other two games? Sorry, that's a bit off-topic, totally looking forward to this so that I won't have to swap cartridges and move things around. I already had to resolder some wires on the JagCD because I somehow disconnected them while trying to get my new I-War cartridge to work.

I always thought the DSP was a Motorola one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_56000

Wasn't the STE DMA sound 'emulated' via the DSP? (I could be completely wrong here, just a guess). There were definitely a lot of people that were pissed off that Commodore didn't put forth effort into a newer sound chip for AGA. Though Paula was always one of the rather Unique things about the Amiga, it sounds fantastic. Kind of like how unique Pokey sounds. My guess on the manufacturing costs? They probably just produced so many of the Agnus and Paula that they didn't sell in other systems, they figured they may as well stick 'em with Lisa. Kind of like I wonder if Atari had such a large stock of chips for the STfm they ended up bringing those back after the STe was released. Then again, from what I read more recently, it seems that the newer STfm were using the newer process and were made cheaper.

It becomes different though if you build a more powerful MiST style system that could handle more powerful systems like the Jag, Saturn, etc. Then just got working cores for it. That is the key.

There was a thread awhile back where someone had said they were basically disbanded. They were what became Sony Computer Entertainment, after they sold off their plans of the playstation to them. At least as far as I recall.

Anyone remember the old BBS days where everyone used Aliases? Pretty sure that remained up until things like Facebook and MySpace appeared. Where the mass of people who don't realize what they put on the Internet is A) not necessarily secure, and B) there FOREVER. For example, that data breach/hacked passwords of all those celebrities and their personal photos that were snagged off of iCloud. People willingly sync their private data 'to the cloud' and some (depending on your choice of phone.. looking at you Nexus /Pixel) you're kind of forced to store things on the Internet due to not having SD cards for local storage. Most people aren't going to set up personal NASs at their homes with Owncloud or anything.

I have been saying that for as long as I can remember....

Want a pro controller, what is the maximum I should pay ?
leech replied to Stephen g's topic in Atari Jaguar
www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Atari-Jaguar-Pro-Controller-Box-Only-NO-CONTROLLER-ULTRA-RARE-/222456967564?hash=item33cb77f18c:g:v8QAAOSwyQtVyfLt Haha, here's a nice auction for the BOX... 149... For what it's worth, the Pro controller is literally some wires routed to buttons that are already there, so you could in theory take a stock Jaguar controller and dremel out the bits and wire up new buttons fairly easily. Then just get the buttons 3D printed. -
I will be honest here. IF they did release a new video game console, I would probably buy it. Even if it turns out to be a flop, someone will hack it to run Linux/SteamOS anyhow. A console lives or dies on it's software library, but maybe they could make an emulation station and then license other IP to release legal roms for it. Look at all the various Genesis and Atari collections that already do that. It isn't just the NES/SNES classic that is selling like crazy, but all of these emulators in a bundle are too. Unless they plan on mame+Gauntlet Dark Legacy support, it wouldn't even take that much hardware. (FWIW, Gauntlet Dark Legacy was the hardest game to throw hardware at for it to finally run at the right framerate and no sound drops, my i7-6700k was the first system I had that can finally do that!)

I think if they could manage to get the license to make D&D games again, we might have something. I don't even know who currently has the deal with Wizards of the Coast. ARC makes Neverwinter, which I think is the most current? But yeah those are the last great games I remember being published by Atari.
-
So, I can admit that I have hopped onto a few crwdfunding projects. But one thing I notice about all of them... they develop their own stuff and use crowdfunding to get out from under the crappy publishers that always dictate hard release dates and feature sets. Atari has only been a publisher for over 20 years. Pretty much the 'death of Atari' for me was when they merged with JTS. People born that year are old enough to legally drink even in the state of Utah... Maybe if they still had the license to make D&D games, they could have something useful. They still have a lot of IP, but without developers willing to work with them.. if they are sewing ones who did in the past.. Guess we can only wait, I still think it is a sexbot until otherwise corrected.

Maybe we can convince them to finally release that analog Joystick that the STE / Falcon DB15 ports support? Everyone should give the updated OIDS a shot, absolutely wonderful with the JagPad; http://atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=320676#p320676

Stupid Noob Question Regarding the Jaguar Motorola 68000
leech replied to Ctoan's topic in Atari Jaguar
Could have sworn it came out for the Amiga first, but then I also could have sworn it had an ECS release, but according to http://hol.abime.net/3225it did not. Though it also says there it was developed by Jaguar, too bad it was never released for it... could have been really pretty. -
AtGames Fall 2017 Flashback and Portable Lineup
leech replied to Albert's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
While their last one was okay sound wise (at least okay for tiny speakers), the lack of being able to save games made me not want to play it. I really wanted to finally win Starflight, but decided instead to buy one of those DB9 to USB adapters so I can connect a Genesis controller up to my computer and use an emulator. -
I think Geocaching needs to be patched to work in Google Earth VR, so we can go outside without danger.
-
Damn, you mean I'm going to have to buy a PSVR now? I already have a Vive.. Polybius looks cool, but it looks more like a game than a VLM, right?
-
I did the opposite, I ended up with a SIO2SD/PC thing at some point, then later on got the Ultimate Atari Cartridge that was recently done. Great to have both!

Like most of you, I had gotten a 2600 when I was young. Still remember when my mother brought it home. She won it in a contest at Godfather's Pizza. It came with Space Invaders, and we played the hell out of it. In 1983/1984 we managed to get an 800XL and a 1050 drive. I still have the 800XL, unfortunately the 1050 was sent off for repairs (after me as a curious 9 year old took it apart, moved around the happy chip we had, then didn't put it back in with the pins in the right holes) and never got it back. Company we sent it off to went out of business I think shortly after we sent it in for repairs. But in the early 90s we went to the Deseret Industries (for those who don't know what that is, it's basically a place where people donate junk they no longer want, and it is owned by the LDS church and they will sell things back.) There were TONS of Atari 8-bit stuff there. I think I managed to get two 1050s, a Indus GT, 130XE, 800, 600XL, XEGS (with keyboard) and some power supplies. 8-bit gold mine. I think I got all of them for like 40 bucks. I now have a second 130XE that I plan on stuffing with lotharek's goodness!

Rollercoaster Tycoon seems to be the only recent game, otherwise they are mostly doing mobile versions of classics, right? Maybe it's going to be one of those embedded intel systems; https://www.tomsguide.com/us/intel-broadwell-nuc-mini-pc,review-2688.html With the logo in Bladerunner 2049, maybe they'll have a cool movie tie-in game (or release implants or do an x86 based Replicant pleasure doll. Probably can only afford old Daryl Hannah though.)

It was the reason I wanted a PS4

Apple naming their OS releases after cats don't count, needs to be hardware! Granted, I still like Debian's use of Toy Story characters. Yay for Stretch being released!
-
I don't know, with marijuana being legal in more and more places... seems some of his stuff would be VERY popular!
-
Ha, there is that. Their naming scheme hasn't always been the greatest. Consoles; 2600 (or VCS), 5200, 7800, Lynx, Jaguar. Computers; 400, 800, 800xl, 600xl, 1200xl, XEGS, 65XE, 800XE, 130XE, 260ST, 520ST, 1040ST, Mega ST, TT030, 520STe, 1040STe, Mega STe, Falcon... That's lame. He was pretty much the sole reason I bought a JagCD. The Virtual Light Machine was extremely awesome. Still use mine to this day.

Don't forget the ST was done by engineers from Commodore, though to be fair, the 2600 and 8-Bits were helped along by Jay Miner, who was then moved over to Commodore. Such a weird industry, if you thought of engineers as wives and companies as husbands, it'd be one big cuckold after another...
