  1. 2. This. 99% of the problems today have a lawyer at the root trying to make a buck. I'm not saying 99% of lawyers are that way, just that the few that are make 99% of todays woes. You don't even need to dig to find the lawyer at the root in most cases... they're right there in the thick of it, usually. Examples please. Patent trolls and abuse of copyright (RightHaven is a prime example) are two that most computer folks follow. Those are examples where lawyers don't even hide the fact that they are just parasites on the economy. Abuse of patents is rampant in many other fields, particularly GM crops. Google Monsanto for one of the worst. I had to look those examples up. It's pretty absurd to say all Lawyers are assholes and are responsible for 99 percent of todays woes. Seriously, come on. I find it pretty offensive too, since my brother and his girlfriend are both lawyers and are great human beings. But, you are free to have your opinion. What's wrong with the Monsato thing anyway? I've only read one article, am I missing something? Anyway, you think lawyers suck, then don't ever use one. Pretty simple. You're getting a divorce? Don't use a lawyer etc etc.

  4. open it up! Don't need to....I've also got a stand up arcade version in my game room. Plus I've had a "copy" of the PSX version for many years. cool! You should post a picture of the arcade.
  5. Sure, bad people everywhere. But lawyers are not just ordinary people. They are an important part of the justice system. That's why lawyers which abuse the system should be sorted out. E.g. we had a lawyer in Germany who was specifically going after kids who where swapping (and maybe also pirating) games for over 20 years. He even made them doing those things just to accuse them later. A few years ago he went too far and finally someone had the courage to take him down. He was sentenced to jail where he killed himself. But his companions are still continuing. In England there have been a number of nurses (another one just lately!) who kill their patients. On purpose! There was even a Doctor who was a serial killer, he also killed himself in jail. Maybe there are some others out there..... All doctors and nurses are evil! And greedy too, especially the doctors! And remember they are not just regular members of the public, but are meant to help people and protect life!
  6. No, lawyers should SERVE the law. They should defend their clients, but not by bending the law or insulting a potential victim. And mainly they should not create trouble just to profit from it. That's the type of lawyer that I disrespect the most by far. They don't create trouble, people ask for their services. Obviously some of them are assholes, just like some people who work at sony are, just like some doctors are, you know....good people and bad people in all jobs.
  7. The reason why lawyers have a bad reputation. Too many come over as greedy and ruthless. I would prefer a ruthless lawyer rather than a weak one, how about you? Greedy? Most people are greedy. Lawyers work LONG hours, they deserve good pay.
  8. Definitely not only Atari. The reason for what? I'm a little confused.
  9. Tell that those who are the reason for it. I bet they won't even listen. You mean Atari?
  10. Not all lawyers are bad, honestly most of them are honestly out to just help people, just some lawyers seem to stick out more than others . . . or at least they sound louder Thanks for looking out for this wonderful community! -Disjaukifa I hate the way people badmouth lawyers, people hate them until they need them. There are good people in all professions and bad people. The lawyer acts on behalf of his/her client.
  11. In that regard I think that's the difference between the classic arcade gaming community and the classic console gaming community - there are more social opportunities in classic arcade gaming through tournaments or being a regular at an arcade. The majority of my Facebook gaming friends are arcade gamers. Well it's just a general rule I would suggest for anyone using social network sites, don't add people until you really know them. You can get to know people online, you can get an idea of who they are. But, you don't really know someone until you meet them. Yeah I don't disagree. I'm just saying that in the realm of classic arcade gaming you can go to tournaments and meet a lot of people, have some beers etc. Usually after tournaments you see a flurry of Facebook friend requests going on. And I think that reflects the social aspect that arcades were BITD where console gaming you were pretty much solo, with friends or a "friend of a friend" scenario. That's true
  12. Actually, I think I'd be better off if I eschewed collecting for playing. But I guess I regard consoles and CIB games more like stamps or coins than books or movies. That is, the value that they have to me is less what you can "do" with them than what they look like and the historical significance that they hold. To be honest, and I know I'm in the minority here, the fun I get from playing the game is almost like a bonus. Don't get me wrong -- I love playing games, and I'm not going to collect broken consoles, but I'm realizing that I'm much more of a collector than gamer, for better or worse. So my plan is to buy only CIB stuff unless it's too expensive and to prioritize hardware over games. I'd also like to reach a point where I've put all of the money into collecting that I will put and can only buy from the proceeds of gaming stuff I sell. However, I don't think that I'll have the discipline to pass up a good deal just because I'm not yet in the black. I don't think you are in the minority . No one with a massive collection can possibly have the time to play all their games and I've came across quite a few people online who after collecting for years end up selling most of their collection . I think there are lots of people who collect more than they actually play. But think about when you were a kid. Wasn't the fun of having a system actually playing it? If you didn't like a game, you traded it or sold it, right? That's what me and my bro did anyway. I think there are lots of people who have the collectors mentality in the retro scene. But the difference between coins for example is that games are meant to be played. That's the purpose of a game. Anyway, just my opinion.

  14. There seems to be two differnt camps in the retro community. People who collect games and people who only buy games they actually want to play. Games were made to be played. From my perspective there is no reason in the world to buy games you have no interest in playing. No game developer expects people to buy all the games they put out. Collecting for the sake of collecting is silly. Only my opinion! No one buys books or movies they don't actually want to read and watch. Why buy a game you don't want to play? Forget collecting. Play games Buy the games you want to play and if you dont like a game. Sell it.
  15. Don't add anyone you haven't met in real life would be my suggestion. If you want to build a real friendship, pick up the phone and then meet up. Depends how you use your facebook I guess. I know people who add anyone and everyone, I know people who only add people who they class as "real friends". Many people seem to collect "friends" on these sites. There is a saying from some old Philosopher (can't remember his name now), basically it means , you cannot call someone a real friend until you've had a meal with them. I think there is a lot of truth in that.
  16. Football games are easy to pick up and play...I mean soccer games
  17. The master system was the first console me and my brother had. I first played one on Holiday, it just so happened that my brothers friend was staying in the same hotel as us and brought his ms. I remember playing Golden axe and Wonderboy. Really great times. The hotel also had a game room, which had a pool table (I LOVE pool!!) and an arcade game. I think it might have been Mercs by Capcom. Anyway, not along after this we got a Mastersystem 2. To this day Mastersystem is still my sisters favourite console, we all had a lot of fun playing it. Unfortunately I don't own one right now. Maybe one day.
  18. Good post. That's a typical symptom of depression, not being interested in things that you once were. Actually lately I haven't been feeling that good (but when most people ask me how I am on Atariage, I usually just say fine!), but I don't think that's why I'm not playing any games. I can look at that huge gap in my life of not owning any systems and realise that games were more fun when I was a kid and for whatever reason I just began losing interest in them. For example, I alway wanted a neo geo when I was a kid, a couple of years ago I bought one. All it does is gather dust, a couple of weeks after purchase at most I was thinking, "why did I buy this thing?". Anyway, all those other interests you have sound good to me!
  19. Thanks for answering guys I'm not playing any thesedays! I didn't play any games from 15 years old until just before I joined this site (when I picked up a Jaguar on ebay). You are talking around 7 or 8 years playing no games, maybe occasionally at a friends house. I don't have a big collection, honestly I'm thinking of selling all my games. I think some people just grow out of them.
  20. Video games? I'm guessing around 15-20 hours a week. A little less during the summer, probably around 20-30 hours a week during the winter. nope. Sex games! Kidding, yep video games
  21. Anyone know what any of them are doing? Do you think any of them are still working in the games industry today?
  22. Every day? A couple of times a week? Once a month? I was going to put a poll, but it got too confusing
