  1. Of the systems I do/have owned, it would probably shape up like this:

    1.) Sega Genesis

    2.) Atari 7800

    3.) Atari 2600

    4.) Magnavox Odyssey2

    5.) NES

The NES would rank much higher if it weren't for "blink." If I ever see a top-loader in the wild I'll have to snatch it up.

  2. Took a trip to Radio Shack today in an attempt to complete some of the 2600 systems I have mothballed.

I found the RS version of this:

For $2.97 on clearance. If you're RS is out of them and you want one, let me know and I'll pick them up for you. There is about 3 left.

I also grabbed a couple Phono-to-F Adapters. For a mental note for anyone trying to pick this off of the shelf, they are Gold Plated for part number 278-276. Not the standard metallic color like on the "How To" page. I saw the standard ($.50 more, actually) but didn't have presence of mind enough to write down that model number.

The customer service was atrocious and I stood in line literally 20 mins for a $9 check, but hey, I'm home now and am about to see if the phono/F adapters are worth all the fuss. :D

  3. After poking around for a few minutes the only thing I can find is that it is indeed a foreign cart and typically has a rarity rating of "ER" which is about equivilant to the AA rating of 9. Interestingly the model number for this cart always shows up as "2."

You may have stumbled across something very worthwhile. Congrats.

Here is a scan of the cart: http://www.atarihq.com/museum/2678/games/f...gn/galactic.jpg

And here is the list that leads me to believe it is indeed foreign: http://www.atarihq.com/museum/2678/games/foreign/

  4. I've noticed after browsing eBay for Atari products over the last year, that prices have been steadily rising. I just recently stopped wishing I would start collecting vintage gaming items and decided to do something about it.

My first trip to the Thrift store netted me 3 2600 decks, and half a set of paddle controllers in good shape for $9. I'm definately going to keep at least one of them, but am unsure about what to do with the remaing consoles. I collect for fun, and to me it would probably be most fun to complete the systems and then either sell them online or mothball them till I decide what to do with them. On the one hand I'd have more cash to (guilt freely) invest in the hobby, on the other it never hurts to have too much hardware lying around.

I pretty much know what I want to do with these decks, but am curious to hear your thoughts on the matter. Are they worth selling loose, or should I complete and then sell? What should I expect to get for them in either condition? Should I just complete them and save them?

Thanks for any advice in advance.
