  1. Too many colors on your demo screen. Antic 4 is only 4 colors plus the black. Seems to me we have: Black, Red, White, Yellow, Orange, Blue, and grey all on the same line.
  2. I too would like to see the game in 3d like the other versions. I honstly couldn't figure out how to do 32 sprites of different colors on the 5200 with no flicker and keep the speech. I'm still open to sugestions?
  3. How about this, less hard critisim, more support with alternative ideas. If you can't say anything positive, and you degrade or critisize. Then site source code or theory on how it could be done properly. Look at the poor Knight Rider project guy, that thread made me sad. I was once a beginner like him. Instead of helping him get started it was easier for some people to just say, don't bother getting started. Bottom Line: TEACH, don't Critisize!
  4. Hey, My feelings aren't hurt. In fact, I'm intrigued. The biggest problem I faced when constructing Klax was the the number of on screen sprites needed to do it in the 3-d perspective. According to david akers who did the Arcade version, a total of 32 blocks can be on the conveyor at one time. They used sprites for the blocks on the conveyor and characters once they fell in the bin. I could just not find a way to display 32 sprites in such a small area. Especially when more than 5 sprites could be essentially in the same scan line since they overlap in the middles as they rolled. I certainly didn't want to have plain looking blocks like the 2600 version. Any ideas or theories here? I need an example of some code that displays 32 colored sprite blocks of up to 10 different colors in a 60x140 pixel area without bad flicker. Perhaps Antic E would be best. Maybe Cafeman might have an idea? And I guess there better be a conveyor belt in the background. And it can steal too many cycles that it prevents the sampled sounds from playing... thanks!
  5. My thoughts exactly. When I started work on klax. I decided to make the game as good a it could be for the 5200 system based on what the 5200 can do. I didn't set out to make an exact copy of an existing game. I think you will like the way the game plays and how it looks and sounds. The 7800 version might have the blocks and the 3d look, but it doesnt have any music, no animation, and no speech. My conveyor might not be 3d but you can throw the tiles back too just like the arcade.
  6. Those screens are of course pre-release, thanks for pointing out some of my silly mistakes. 32k Rom 14K used by samples. THanks!
  7. Good Idea. Sideways. Or how about, the bottom is moving and the new block is stationary and you have to quickly fill the hole or it crushes you.
  8. I'm playing with "Atari Blocade" or something like that. And changing the blocks to stars obviously different music then the other games. I need some easy to implement idea that changes game play. like invisible blocks!
  9. I talked with Tetris licensing already. They can't justify licensing for such a small amount of money. Oh well. John
  10. Thanks guys. The game is undergoing some big changes. But it is a great game, we are currently trying to figure out how to change the game enough to not infringe copyright.
  11. To apply, please send 1 or 2 examples of your work in this format only: 160x160 pixels 16 color gray scale Submit art to: John Swiderski [email protected] if that email doesn't work because of my spam filter, try my alternate: [email protected] thanks!
  12. All the beta Testing slots have been filled. If I fail to recieve the NDA forms by anyone, I will repost. Thanks to Everyone who applied.
  13. Thanks, I found that site. Quite Informative.
  14. Oh thats right. You can also do the "Big X" even if the legs are different sets of colors as long as its a multi you drop in the center. That multi tile really makes things interesting.
  15. Here Are The Minimum System Requirements: Pentium 233 or Higher Windows 95 OR higher Direct X 6.1 or Higher 4MB Video Card 8X Cd Rom
  16. Hello all, I need a few more beta testers for a great new Windows Retro-Game Commercial CD. I cannot mention the details here as this project requires a signed Non Disclosure Agreement before I can fill you in. Testers will recieve a line of Credit in the Manual and a free copy of the final product. Apply by email: [email protected] Thanks!
  17. Actually I can't think of a game out there better suited for Antic 4 then Tetris. You haven't seen the real game yet so your don't know about all the surprises. In any case, I agree with you on Klax. I am only about 20% done with klax. I simply reused my "blocks" from tetris to design the game layout and rules. It will change quite a bit before its near done. I have a lot to of work to do with it, it will also include the Voice samples and some of the backgrounds from the lynx version. I've never seen the arcade version. In any case, you can see that there are DLIs in effect in just the simple picture I posted. Antic 4 is only 5 colors, there are clearly more then that in this picture. No mater, its only for the framework development. I've been saving all my cool stuff for Irata's Quest which is about 50% done, but I needed a break so Tetris and Klax are in between games when I get bored. thanks for the input, it's appreciated! Now if I could just find a Klax master to tell me the secrets of the game.
  18. Yes, that picture of Klax came out kind wierd, here's a better one. I posted another thread in the lynx section but haven't gotten a reply. I dont think I know all the secret shapes possible besides the standard ones. I need to know that before I finish coding the main game loop.
  19. Ok klax experts, I am nearly done coding Klax for the 5200 and I need your help. I am not a really good klax player and I want to make sure I get all the hidden extras and secrets in the game. At this time, I have Up and down Pieces 3-5 The multicolored piece that can be used anywhere Left and right pieces 3-5 diagonals 3-5 both left ways and right ways "the big X" L shapes is that everything? Are there other magic pieces or shapes? thanks!
  20. I am hoping the publicity for this game gets Tetris company to respond to my certified letters! Anyway, I am not going to release it without their permision and when I release it it will only be in a limited run cartridge form that way they wont have to worry about it running free on emulators and the like. You know why I did it for the 5200 and not the 7800 silly!
  21. Half Way done coding the rules, working on graphics and sounds. Expect to have it done by Xmas. here's a pic. It's very basic at this point.
  22. Here's a question, How do you make these samples? Can you convert windows samples? Is there a dos recorder that makes these 4 bit samples? I have been toying with the idea of adding voice to my homebrews, I think I might have the playback down but I haven't been able to make my own samples. any ideas?
  23. Rescue Terra I, Boing, Waterworld, Earthworld prototype, QuadRun, Crazy Climber, and 8 5200 Prototypes.
  24. If the games were properly programed, the controller is not that bad really! My new games work great on the 5200 controllers. It's as if Atari programmers were told, don't worry about compensating for the strange controller, we're replacing it. Or the programmers were just too lazy. As far as the large foot print, DANG! Look at the XBOX ! and the Xbox weighs a tons and still has no room to store your controllers. Which was neat. The 5200 is also elegant for it time. The 5200 was a good idea. And no, they should not have went right to the 7800, the 5200 was still a year or two early. It should of had other controllers sooner. The adapter sooner. IT was a crappy year for everyone except computers. The 5200 could have been the console that saved atari if they would have gotten on the ball. Ported more games, not changed so much to make it harder to port games. In fact, it should of run the same code as the 800 so companies could of just copied the game to a cart. but oh well! People make mistakes.
