  1. Karate was simply inexcusable. Who thought they could make a fighting game for the Atari 2600?!
  2. As soon as I get a more recent photo, I'll upload it here.
  3. There were a lot of GCC programmers that didn't get a lot of credit. Doug Macare did a great job on Pole Position for the Atari 2600. It was a tough call also, as I wanted to vote for each one of them, but I guess the nod went to David Crane in the end.
  4. Played it a few times on emulator, not bad actually. I might try to find the cartridge sometime.
  5. Although I never did this during the Atari days, I did want to take back Defender once.
  6. I've had this game for more than a decade, and I still jump into those stupid planes!
  7. My first effort for one of my favorite 2600 games. Ironically, I just got the manual for this a few months ago, so I can refer to it as necessary. Maybe I'll dust my 7800 off for a few games. (Note to self: Don't try playing Solaris when you're still half-awake!)
  8. Uh Ze_ro, you forgot to add my score.
  9. A slight improvement over my original score.
  10. First time I ever got the Magic Fish to appear, hopefully I can find the actual cartridge and play on real hardware. Here is some advice to remember: -The Polar Grizzly can easily be distracted if you jump up onto land and wait for him to come toward you. Then, jump onto an ice block and jump back up behind him. It may not always work, but sometimes he might be distracted long enough for you to get to your igloo. -Once you get caught by a hazard, there is no escape, so don't try to waste igloo pieces trying to reverse out. -When your igloo is complete, don't rush to the top. Take your time and plan each move carefully. Remember you can change directions as much as you need to without being penalized igloo pieces.
  11. Here are a few I made up: Haunted House: Get in, get urn, get out, hopefully alive. Pole Position: Prepare to qualify then prepare to race! Karate: Kick butt on screen, then kick butt of game designer! Moonsweeper: Dodge flares, rescue spacemen, lather, rinse, and repeat. And a haiku for Haunted House: Enter the mansion Will you make it out alive Or get scared stiff?
  12. The yolk's on me for this week's game!
  13. Astroblast Bump 'n' Jump Dark Cavern River Raid River Raid 2 (Just a few ideas)
  14. Just for your information, Ze_ro, I should be at 15 points, not 16. I keep track of my standings for each week and it appears you might have made an error.
  15. That stinks, I'm sorry to hear about that man. My 2600 has a problem with the port where the power cord plugs in. Usually I'd need to wiggle it around for the connections to register, but now it doesn't seem to be registering at all, so I'm using my Atari 7800 instead.
  16. Pole Position comes to mind for me.
  17. After a little more practice, I've come up with a better score.
  18. So this is going to be a whole new set of games instead of a redone Flashback with some new stuff?
  19. I did pretty good for my first attempt. Alas, I don't have the actual game, so back to the emulator for me.
  20. Jack Tramiel was in charge of Atari in late June or early July if I remember correctly. It was not long after that when he laid off most of Atari's work force.
  21. When I was a child, I was very sensitive to loud noises, and as a result, I didn't really get into games like Astroblast and Missile Command like I could have. Later on, I realized there was a volume knob, and when I started collecting again, I was less sensitive to noise, meaning that I could get start playing them. While I haven't gotten Astroblast yet, I own Missile Command and it's a real blast to play! (no pun intended)
