  1. I was lucky enough to get Beamrider, and Private Eye at PhillyClassic, but from what I gather they are equally as difficult.

Private Eye is a non-linear game where you drive around a city looking for clues to solve a crime. The problem is with wonky controls, having a difficult time figuring out where everything is, and too little time.

Beamrider is good, I've had that since I was a kid, and it was one of the few games my dad enjoyed watching me play. It is tough, but it's mighty fun. One warning, when you see a light green triangle-shaped thingy, DON'T shoot it! Collect it, it's worth an extra ship, and you need every extra life you can get!

  2. Like they said, it depends on the system and the cartridge. Some cartridges will work with some 7800s, and others won't, and vice versa.

I do own Robot Tank and it works fine for me.

Also, a similar problem exists with Food Fight for the 7800 (supposedly.) I don't know if this is true, but I do own a copy and it works perfectly fine.

  3. I think this console is an ok idea, but it could have been a must buy for most AA members if it included the following:

A cartridge slot to plug in future 20 (or more) in 1 cartridges.

A menu for the games so you can select the one you want to play easily.

    A high score save function.

A combined joystick/paddle controller with pause and reset buttons.

Now that would be worth 50 bucks.  :)

    Jeff

    $50 bucks, $50 BUCKS!?!

    $50 BUCKS!? That ain't nice! ;)

  4. My Pole Position 2 works fine with a one-button joystick. Both buttons accelerate, and it's just as well, since any professional of the game will tell you that you don't need the brakes, just shift gears or let off the gas to slow down.

And as for Asteroids, pulling back on the joystick makes me Hyperspace, while the fire button is fire.

  5. Either that or just a composite drawing. The odds of a 2600 game looking like that are mighty slim. Although I do remember having a dream about playing a Choplifter! type game for the 2600 once. It was called something like 'Atari Matari.' (why such a weird name? Because dreams are handled by one side of the brain, while processing text is done on the other side. This is why when we're dreaming, text can look really weird!)

  6. Uh, so how do I set my difficulty switches so that Xevious uses seperate buttons?

They're the little switches in front of your 7800 next to the joystick ports...

Yeah, I know that, but which settings do I use?

  7. Xevious is definitely the worst 7800 game. I mean, let's see how they messed up:

#1 - Instead of using the ProLine joystick's seperate buttons to handle firing blasters and bombs individually, you fire both at once by pressing either button. What is this, a 2600 game?!

#2 - While the graphics are good, they could've been a little better.

#3 - The sounds seem a little out of proportion.

All-in-all, it looks like they took the 2600 version, enhanced the graphics, and released it as a 7800 game.

  8. Pole Position 2: With 16k of ROM space it could be possible. Then again, maybe not...

Beamrider 2: More variety in the levels, and a continue feature would be nice.

Enduro 2: Random weather patterns and improved physics.

Moonsweeper 2: There are too many add-ons I could think of...

Lock 'n' Chase 2: Random mazes, two player simultaneous gameplay, just to name a few.

  9. From what I've heard, some copies of Robot Tank will work on certain 7800 consoles, and won't work on other consoles, and vice versa. My copy works fine.

I've heard that The Activision Decathlon might not work on the 7800, but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet. Also, Kool-Aid Man might be incompatible as well.

Also, some copies of Food Fight for the 7800 might have that problem too. Mine works fine, but just to be sure.
