Does anyone here use an SIO2PC with Linux? Does it work with any of the linux distros? I see that Atarimax sells them with software for various forms of Microsoft Windows, but my wife an I use Debian Linux and Xubuntu Linux on our computers at home. Thanks for any input on this.

PM sent. Hope she has some boxes left.

I'm not curious out of any other reason than I can go seek out the other version to compare and contrast it the one I'm playing. I'd probably be no better at it, but it would be good to know about another version out there.
There are two versions, with slightly different graphics. One was released on cart, and one on disk. I don't know why this was done, but it reminds me a little of how two choplifters were released for 800 as well.

Are Kabobber and Targ still available?

How old were the average Atari buyers back in the 70's/80's?
My parents were in their late 20s when they bought us an Atari. My friends' parents were all in their early to mid 30s. The kids who played were all 9 to 14.

I'd consider Pitfall or Adventure.

I own none of these, but I see Video 61 has the Crossfire cart for $20, and the disk for $10. Does anyone know how big a difference there is between them? I saw on several websites that the graphics are slightly different, but is the game play better on one over the other?
I wasn't going to say anything but there is already a little parcel somewhere over the atlantic... save the money towards your SIO2USB/APE
If anyone stateside has got an SIO2PC or home made equivalent spare please post
This round can also be a catchup round so if there's anything anyone has missed this season you can post scores here. littlemanjack can also re-play any other games he has from this season to improve scores

Wow. In my best New York accent, "You are da man!"

This is what I'd consider a best case senario. Maybe Atari could have an internet connected box, like a Roku, where you buy the console and get on Ataris internet site to download game packs. You could put in your name and save highscores and compete with friends and people all over the world who also have the games you do. The console would be relatively cheap to make and you wouldn't have to deal with cart distribution. Put some woodgrain on it and sell it with a wireless cx-40 and there you go, an inexpensive Atari VCS for the masses. Heck, if it turns out to be successful, sell a two button controller and sell 7800 games from the box also.
Just get a Wii.
I have a Wii, but Atari isn't on the Virtual Console and I don't have the homebrew channel (with what I'd assume 90%+ also do not). Also, on the homebrew channel can you compete with one another on 2 player games with friends across the country? Does it save high scores? Thats the appeal of this system.
Having a Wii or Xbox Live is appealing (and fun), but the appeal to many vintage game fans is the cartridges in opposition to just having a bunch of games on a hard drive or sd card. The actual vintage media is part of the fun.

So much negativity. While it won't play with the PS3 and 360 crowds, it most likely would have some appeal at a certain price point (i.e. $40-$50 range for the system, $10 for the games).
The Flashback 1 and 2 systems were limited in the number of games. This would allow for new releases, along with hundreds of re-released older games. You have to think outside the bun for a moment...
The problem is shelf space. Retailers need to make so much revenue per square foot. Selling Atari 2600's aren't going to cut it.
Why not have Video 61, Best Electronics, B & C Computervisions, 4Jays, Atari2600.com, Pack Rat Video Games, and Atari Age sell them? They could probably find customers and shelf space.

I'd go with 98 over 95. But you may have to get an older laptop.

I love Xolo (like a fancy Star Castle) and Jumpman. Also, if you can find them, any of Champ Games arcade games are great (Champ Kong, Ms. Pac-Em, etc.)

Nice haul, with the WICO and all those games.

Haunted House 2
Bosconian
Apple Panic/Space Panic
Kill the Attacking Aliens (great O2 game)

You can pick up a loose copy of Stargate for less than $10 here :https://www.atari2600.com/cat--Atari-2600-Games-S--SUB37:100.html
or a new in box copy at video 61 of Defender II for $20. Neither seems overpriced to me for one of the largest, best 2600 games.
I don't think you can find one at auction for cheaper, but if you have a lot of patience you might find one here at Atari Age in
the Marketplace for less. It's a great game, worth buying and playing.

One of my favorites too. There's also a great linux version called solar wolf. But I like the 2600 version the best. It feels like a true arcade game on the 2600. Which it is.

Doesn't Centipede use analog control as well?

Thought I'd resurrect an old thread. I want to get an 8-bit and have narrowed down the choices to the original 800, 800XL, and 130XE.
I'll use the computer to play games almost exclusively (no programming), and right now I'm expecting to play cartridge games. I'll probably want a multicart at some point. I like the original 800 for the retro look, but will I be able to play any cartridge game on the original 800? And do games look better on the 800XL because of the GTIA chip? Thanks in advance!
Some early games do not work on the xl or xe. And many later games won't work unless you have 64k or more ram, which means you need an xl or xe. It depends on which games you want more.

Am I the only person who saw this?
