Bob is an incredible programmer and a gentleman. I hope he hasn't left Atari Age. He's a great member of the forums, and an incredible gift to the 7800 homebrew scene.

Are 12th and 13th anonymous? In hiding? Already playing Electrician?

I believe Best Electronics still sells those 2600 multi-carts. Check out their website for details.

Seawolf and Oystron are also two awesome homebrews.

To answer the original poster's title for this thread, "Yes, the 5200 is super." And I'm quite fond of the 8-bit computers and the 2600 as well.
The controllers are not super on the 5200 as many have pointed out, but the games and the console itself, gigantic and sturdy, are excellent. It was exciting in the 80s and is still a great system. I hope that the homebrewers give it some more attention, as it's falling behind as the 2600 and 7800 keep raking in great homebrews. It also has some excellent homebrews, but they seem to be coming in at a slower pace than for the other two oldest Atari consoles. But again, yes, it's super. Break one out and fire up Centipede, Countermeasure, Beef Drop, or Adventure II and see what all the fuss is about.

This will never stand!!!! I WILL BE NUMBER ONE!!!
And only 8 players? does everyone really hate the game that much?
I hope to join in this weekend. Got really busy for the last three weeks with family and work. My wife had a baby, quite earlier than expected, and then we had a lot of family visitors, and I had a lot of work as well. Been a great time, but no time for Atari playing. So I hope to add to the list this weekend if I can get a little time on the 800.
Congrats Jack. hope all is well with the newborn and mom.
Congratulations Andrew... Do I hear a HSC bonus point being awarded
:!:Thank you Fres and trbb!
She was born 5 weeks early and is amazing.

I usually use a 2600 CX-40 stick, or a Wico ball stick, but of the two you picked, I'd vote for the Wico bat.

That is awesome. I wish I lived nearby and could pop in. Great work!

Quasimodo!
By the way, have any of you played the 2600 homebrew Hunchy II? It's quite good. A little like Miner 2049er and Gwobby I think.

Great seller. I bought some carts and manuals from Epyx_Fail. He charged a very fair price, and even threw in some extra papers with the manuals, and had them all packaged in photo album pages. Highly recommended.

You are a lucky person! Good timing. Great timing.

What's on the plug?
CX-10s, CX-40s, and Vaders.
The CX-10s have the orange ring around the stick but doesn't say,"TOP", the base of the stick doesn't have a black ring holding it down, and inside it has springs.
The CX-40s have the orange ring around the stick that does say,"TOP", the base of the stick does have a black ring holding it down, and inside there are no springs.
The Vaders are just like the CX-40s but the orange ring is black.
That just about says it all.

..." for Kaboom if you are small or big paddles, as you are new it's a bit harsh making you play in the pro set but you did have a convincing win at Moon Patrol. I'll leave it up to you
"Somehow I don't think it will matter much.

You're right about that
Hey Zylon, have you only got Carts? what other games do you have, perhaps post them here on the Games List
If you've got 2 games (=3 in the tourney) and littleman jack has 1 maybe you guys want to team up (or if a third person wants to team up to cover more of the range
) Impressive scores btw, and on NTSC too
Just been looking at vids of 2600 paddle games to see if there's anything we could have ported... anyone know of any or any paddle type arcade games of old

Two 2600 paddle games, that never were made on the 8-bit computers, that come to mind, are Night Driver and Circus Atari.
2 of my faves.
I also loved Tac-Scan, Encounter at L-5, Demons to Diamonds, just to name a few.I forgot about Demons to Diamonds. That's a good one. I never have played the other two you mentioned, but I'll take your word for it.

I'd be very interested in an assembled one. I'm dangerous with a soldering iron.

Paid $42 for one of the Miner 2049ers. Can't remember which one. They both were in the over $35 range. One a little higher. Came close to $40 for Montezuma's Revenge as well.

I was emphasising that this game does not support paddles (though it would be perfect for conversion) and that anyone could play it
I'm so confused. I've been playing River Rat with paddles, using only the buttons. One button makes the ship go right, the other makes the ship go left. Is this not the way to play it? I'll break out the joysticks tomorrow night and give it another try that way.
-
I'll post all the manuals up for sale, I'm not really interested in them. I'll put them here and in the Marketplace forum, but I'll try to put them up here first

Thanks.

Someone has been busy....

Nice collection for only two months!!!
Just picked this up today. Hubba hubba! Atari 2600 Lot. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 270755029428
Once I get it in, I'll sort out the dupes and put 'em up for sale. I'll probably be selling the manuals too, I'm not really interested in them.
Will you post what manuals you're selling here first? I'd be interested in some. I like manuals. Not as much as games or guitars, but they're up there.

After reading these posts, add Robotron, Pole Position, and Moon Patrol. They're all quite good as well.

If you want to see what Millipede *should* have been then get the 2600 version. Seriously. The gameplay is *there*. Now imagine that with the graphical oomph of the 800/XL chipset, and you'd have a great conversion.

It must be good as I always really rated our Millipede
re Centipede we played both the A8 ver and the 5200 port in the HSC recently; although the 5200 ver looks nicer I think the A8 version plays better as it's a bit easier (no I don't suck at gameplay!) so you get a more satisfying go
[All these 'pede games are excellent games so we are spoilt, plus we have the awesome Bug Attack!]Aside from the comsetics, are there any A8 conversions where we are missing on levels or gameplay features

Missile Command for the 8-bit (and 2600) has only one shooting base, while other versions have three like the arcade. That's all I can think of, besides the intermissions that were missing in Pac-Man but were later added.
-
I don't quite understand the "River Rat is joystick" comment. Do you want us to play it with a joystick, or up the creek with paddles? Don't you just use the buttons anyway?
Either way, it's a nice game. I'm glad to finally be introduced to it.

The future of the Stella emulator

I hope you keep Stella around. It is a hobby for you, so don't stress too much. It works great as it already is now, so any changes you make are just icing on the cake. I use it with Linux and it works beautifully.
