  1. There's also a post running in the 2600 forum today titled "opinions on some 2600 homebrews" with a lot of suggestions and input. It may help.
  2. All the homebrews that I've bought or tried have been very, very good. My favorite is Seawolf. I think that's a very good bet because it is a vertical shooter like Space Invaders, but with a lot more going on. And if he likes Defender, Oystron is an excellent choice. It's kind of a one screen Defender of sorts. Once you get the hang of how to play, it is extremely addictive and fun. You fly around, shoot, collect, defend. Great fun.
  3. Did the bug in Reindeer Rescue get worked out before the cart was released, or after? I never have run into any problems when playing mine. Everything seems to go along just fine.
  4. I like it for very short bursts (to relive my childhood) and to laugh at the sound effects (they are funny), but for real Pac-Man fixes I always drift towards Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man, and Pac-Man Arcade.
  5. Donkey Kong could benefit greatly by having smoother movement and ladder-climbing for Mario. But even more importantly, it needs different sounds. I'd rather they'd used the 2600 sound (why not, it's the same chip) then the dreadful sound it has now. I always turn the sound down or off because it's just too harsh on the 7800. And of course the pie board and the proper US arcade order for the screens would be nice instead of the 1, 2, 3 order it has now. Also Karateka could be so much better. That could be an excellent game on the 7800, as good as, or better, than the 8-bit or Apple II versions.
  6. Yes, all my 7800s have had small cart spaces, with 2600 and with 7800 carts. I'm always afraid I'm going to break a cart or the 7800s themselves. The razor idea sounds like a good idea to me. What strikes me as strange is that my Sears Video Arcade II (which is essentially a 2600 in a 7800 case) does not have a tiny cart slot. They must have changed the specs slightly when making the VAII (or maybe it's the cartridges themselves--I have noticed that some red label 2600 carts are extra wide).
  7. Pac-Man and Donkey Kong for stretches at a time. I tried to own or play every version, but have since come to my senses. Mostly.
  8. Is there a chance it is on www.DOSgames.com? There's a ton of old shareware and freeware available there.
  9. Quite a bit. Yikes! 2600 Pac-Man, 2600 Ms. Pac-Man, 2600 Jr. Pac-Man, 5200 Pac-Man, Atari 800 Pac-Man Atari 800 Super Pac-Man Atari 800 Ms. Pac-Man Atari 800 Jr. Pac-Man Atari 7800 Pac-Man Collection Atari 7800 Ms. Pac-Man Plug and Play Namco Game NES Pac-Man Sega Genesis Ms. Pac-Man Namco Collection for N64 Namco Collection for Game Cube Pac-Man Collection for Game Boy SP Namco Collection for Game Boy SP Pac-Man for original Game Boy Ms. Pac-Man for original Game Boy NES Classics Pac-Man Reissue for Game Boy SP Coleco Table Top Pac-Man Coleco Table Top Ms. Pac-Man hours and hours on the arcade machines and if this counts, Pac-Man World Rally on Game Cube. I really love Pac-Man games. I've been quite tempted to get the Xbox 360 for the Championship Edition (plus Geometry Wars and Defender), but bills keep my money going elsewhere, and the 2600 and 800 divert any spare money at this time.
  10. My dad played Pong and later Apple Panic on the Atari 800. My mom got into Air Sea Battle on the 2600. And that was all they would play. But it was nice to have them play a few.
  11. I can't pick just three, however. . . standards that I love: Ms. Pac-Man Donkey Kong Seawolf or a little less standard: HERO M*A*S*H* Phoenix
  12. What systems will run this game off a cart? Do you need 48K, 64K, more? Thanks for any info.
  13. Currently, besides the 2600 there is a Sears Video Arcade II (a 2600 in a different shell), a 400, an 800, an Odyssey 2, a Sega Genesis, a Nintendo 64, a Flashback II, and several handheld LCD games lurking about my home and office. But I am restless and often sell or trade systems (except the 2600s of course).
  14. Thanks for the info! Looking forward to ordering one from Lance at V61.
  15. famicommander is an A+ seller. He sold me some 2600 manuals. Shipping was quick and all the items were as described. His communication was excellent. I would definitely trade with him again anytime.
  16. Just got them. Thanks! I sent a PM back.
  17. There is a version for the 8-bit computer line called Pinhead. Perhaps some ideas or even code could be taken from it? It was a great version.
  18. Solar Fox is a great game, and Omega Race is great fun if you have the extra controller. I never had the patience for Mountain King (32K?). Maybe I should revisit that one. They certainly backed some excellent games.
  19. Ken,

I have really enjoyed all three (5200/8-bit/7800) of your Beef Drop games. I hope you continue to keep the 8-bit goodies coming. The 8-bit version has really caught my fancy. Thanks!

  20. It says O-U-C-H. Check this link out: http://www.videogamecritic.net/2600hl.htm#Human_Cannonball
  21. Nice Work! Frogger would be a joy to play with that one.
  22. Hello all, I have a 2600 Vader that is experiencing a slight problem, and I am looking for any ideas to fix it. Whenever I put in a cartridge, upon turning it on, the picture rolls several times before settling down. Sometimes I even need to turn it off and on several tries before it settles down. It is quite like when you put a PAL game into a non-PAL system. Any ideas on why it is doing this? It does it with every game that I have tried, except Pac-Man. For Pac-Man, the game looks almost correct, but the ghosts move erratically and the "fruit" appears in incorrect places. Thanks for any help.
