So what do think of this new usb 2600 controller?
littleman jack replied to Godzilla's topic in Atari 2600
This would/will be great to use with the Atari 88 Great Games CD on the PC, and with a bunch of arcade style games like Kobo Deluxe on my Linux Box. Thanks for the link! -
Thanks for all the posts. These really help. And I agree with the Zelda-Minnish Cap comparisons. The first thing I thought of was the original Adventure for the 2600 when I played the GBA Zelda-Minnish Cap. It was a nice surprise. Made me more fond of the Game Boy Advance. Although the NES Donkey Kong and the Namco Museum 50th Anniversary carts didn't hurt, either.

That looks great! I'd love to have a cartridge if you ever make it available. -
Which Atari 2600 Games Have the Best Title Screens?
littleman jack replied to Random Terrain's topic in Atari 2600
I really like Solar Fox and Desert Falcon. They both have the appearance of a classic arcade game, which seemed impossible at one time on the 2600, but has been done often in later games. Also, Centipede's title screen and attract mode look great. And Wolfenstein VCS-The next mission looks great as well. -
How much do 800s usually go for?
littleman jack replied to ApolloBoy's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
You might try posting in the wanted section of the marketplace forum. I did that awhile back and got several nice replies. I've never seen them go for less than $60.00 on ebay, and often way over that because of extras like games and disk drives. But I haven't watched too closely in awhile, so you might still be able to snag one for $15-40. Good luck, the 800 is a tank. A really nice tank. -
I just got my hands on a copy of Night Mission Pinball on cartridge. I have enjoyed playing it, but I find the computer speaker sounds to be quite annoying. Does anyone know how to turn the sound to them off, or to switch the sound to the TV speakers instead? Thanks for any replies!

Nice pictures. Yours was an early one, made in California. Mine must be later, made overseas. I noticed they both have a hole or chip out of the bottom of the keyboard. Do you know if that was intended to be there, or just broken off? I always figured it was broken off, but maybe not. Are you going to post shots of it put back together as well? Thanks for the pictures.

What have you actually PLAYED this week? New Top Ten

Defender (15 min) Defender II (45 min) Crossbow (30 min) Solar Fox (15 min) -
When it starts up without a cart, it should be a blue screen with the memo pad (white letters, lets you simply type anything to the screen). Good luck, I hope you get it up and running.

Anyone else think the Sears Video Arcade II is cool?
littleman jack replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 2600
There are two other threads out there somewhere on Atari Age about the power supply for the Sears Video Arcade II. You can't use a regular 2600 power supply because the standard 2600 power supply has a male plug tip, and the Sears Video Arcade II requires a female plug tip. Mine came without a power supply, so I've been using a Sega Genesis power supply. But there is another thread out there, I apologize for not having the link handy, in which a couple of Atari Age members discuss the power supplies pretty thoroughly. They did say that a Sega Genesis power supply was okay to use with no ill effects. And so far that has worked for mine. -
Whatever became of Sunmark?
littleman jack replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I think he got rid of everything Atari related and moved on to other things, as Al suggested. I wish I had ordered a few things before he closed up shop. I emailed him after I read the announcement of his closing up shop and he said everything was gone. It looks like the AA store has some copies of Alligator People still around, however. The last bit of Sunmark. -
It could be tele-sport. The Russian capital P and L are very similar. The P looks like the Greek letter pie, and the L looks like pie with a slight curl in the right leg of the letter. Telesport makes sense.

Anyone else think the Sears Video Arcade II is cool?
littleman jack replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 2600
I think they are designed for four paddles. But unlike the pair of paddles Atari sold, Sears sold individual combo joystick/paddles controllers that made it necessary to have four ports for the four paddle games. But maybe someone who knows the system well could devise a game for four joysticks or eight paddles (in pairs). -
The first word is blurry, but the second word says "sport".

Anyone else think the Sears Video Arcade II is cool?
littleman jack replied to OldSchoolRetroGamer's topic in Atari 2600
I like the Sears VA II. I picked one up in northern Georgia for $25 with Jr. Pac-Man and two really odd off brand 2600 joystcks (one was a Kraft stick and the other was a brand I can't remember--both were painful to use). I've never used the original stock controllers, but it works just fine with any 2600 joysticks. I use the standard Atari sticks, Wico sticks, and Sega Genesis pads. I really like the lights on the top, and the wide, mushy cartridge slot (much wider than my 7800s, even though they look almost identical at first glance), and the joystick ports on the front. -

Tempest by a hair. It's the speed, and the colors that give it a slight edge for me. -
Thanks!

Does the Atari 800 have Bosconian? I didn't know that. Okay, so I still wish for a controller with two buttons on the top, next to each other, with independent functions, for the 5200. That would be very nice, instead of the buttons on the side. I guess there's always the next best thing--a 5200 Redemption.
-
Was there ever any attempt, or even a knock off, of the arcade game Bosconian ever made for an Atari 8-bit system? It seems like a game that could have been made, but I've never seen it on any home system before the Playstation I Namco Museum.

1. Better controllers with top-mounted buttons next to each other. 2. Better controllers with top-mounted buttons next to each other. 3. Shamus. 4. Pharaoh's Curse. 5. Bosconian.

What are your favourite Atari 2600 sound effects?
littleman jack replied to Supermarket's topic in Atari 2600
The song in the homebrew Flap Ping has to be my all time favorite. It has a great beat. Makes me laugh and wiggle. And I love the sound in Adventure, which someone mentioned above, when you slay a dragon with the sword (which sounds earily similar to the sounds in Pac-man when eating ghosts). And the Tarzan-ish music in Pitfall when you grab a vine is quite fine. -
I haven't played it since 1985 or 86, but didn't Pathfinder scroll in all directions? Or did it simply change rooms like Shamus? I think it scrolled.

Which 2600 game has the best "Attract/Demo" Mode
littleman jack replied to Robert M's topic in Atari 2600
Solar Fox, Centipede, and Double Dunk are all excellent. Desert Falcon is pretty good too. -

Adventure, Asteroids (by a hair, because you can save high scores), and Tempest.
