  1. I prefer Pitfall to the sequel for many of the reasons stated above: I prefer to just lose a man and be done than to float way back, the music is annoying in Pitfall II, and a new reason--I don't like climbing down multiple screens that look the same (although I don't seem to have a problem running sideways through similar screens, hmmm).
  2. I've used Windex on my Sega Genesis and controllers to great effect. You might try it on a small spot first (like it always says on household cleaners) and see if that would work on the Vader.
  3. They're both top down. And both suited for two players. One is only a two player game, and the other is almost impossible when you play against the computer.
  4. Yes! Get a 7800. Get Beef Drop and Pac-Man Collection from the Atari Age store and you won't regret it. Also check out Centipede, especially two-player simultaneous mode. That can be found on ebay, at 4Jays, at Atari2600.com, at B & C Computervisions, at Video 61, at Chase the Chuckwagon, or from members here at the Marketplace Forum. There are several others to check out too. Go to the 7800 section of Atari Age's homepage and click on the bottom search section to read a list of most of the games, with descriptions. And, of course, read the forums. And as many people already mentioned, there are a lot of great 2600 games that will run on the 7800, including homebrews from Atari Age. There's a lot to be happy with on the 7800.
  5. Sprint Master is a good top down racing game. And Bump n Jump is also top down, and a lot of fun. It's not really a race though, more like a demolition derby and drive. You just drive, jump, and ram other cars. And it has a continue feature, which is rare for a 2600 game.
  6. I forgot Realsports Volleyball. It's quite fun, and quite funny to play with two players.
  7. Fishing Derby is great to play head to head, as well as Joust Pong (aka Flap Ping in the AA store), as well as Freeway.
  8. Lady Bug, Pitfall I and II, Montezuma's Revenge, Wolfenstein VCS: the next mission, Solaris, Radar Lock, Bump n Jump, Spy Hunter, Double Dunk, Desert Falcon, Pete Rose Baseball, H.E.R.O., and Sea Wolf are all impressive feats of VCS programming.
  9. 38,650 But I've not come close since.
  10. Never played Bumper Bash. I love the way Midnight Magic looks, but I have more fun with Video Pinball.
  11. Unfortunately, Game Cube releases stopped quite a while back. Radirgy/Radilgy was suppossed to come out, as well as a new Paper Mario, and Food Fight. But all were shelved because of the Wii.
  12. Thanks everyone, especially Charlie Chaplin, for all the replies. I fell out of touch with the 8-bit computers after the 800xl and have just returned after a long time spent with various Sega systems, a N64, and continuous time with 2600s and 7800s.
  13. This may have been asked or discussed before, so excuse me if so: What games and programs use all that extra memory in the 130XE? And does it speed things up on older programs to have so much memory for an 8-bit? Thanks for any replies!
  14. Beef Drop, Pac-Man Collection, and two-player Centipede in cooperative mode can't be beat. All very addictive.
  15. Some vendors who sell Atari Computers-- B & C Computervisions 4 Jays Video 61 Best Electronics Bravo Sierra Computers I've done business with both Video 61 and 4 Jays, and they were both excellent. The others I have only read about on the internet. Also, you could try the Marketplace Forums here on Atari Age. I've had some luck finding th old 8-bits there (400 and 800).
  16. The 8-bit computers are a great choice for all the reasons mentioned above. My favorite reasons for getting an Atari 8-bit computer: They have so many great games, so many, many, many games, great sound, nicer graphics than the 2600, yet still nicely retro, many formats (disk, cartridge, cassette, Atari Max cables), and you can use your 2600/7800 controllers. You can't go wrong getting into the 8-bits.
  17. There's another cartidge list at the web address------"my.execpc.com/~krieg/links/8bit.carts" which can also be found by googling "cartridge list for classic atari 800" or "andrew krieg cart list". Happy cart hunting. Also, there's tons of people who can tell you about Atari Max, which makes cables and blank carts that can be used to make your own carts. And there's a bunch of vendors who still sell disks for the 8bits. Also, there's Atari Age's store, which has the homebrews Castle Crisis and Beef Drop (Both great arcade ports!).
  18. Looks like I may have found one or two. Thanks Atari Age members for looking! Most of my for trade games on this post are still available if anyone is interested. Please send a PM and I'd be happy to trade.
  19. The Donkey Kong for the 8-bits is the best version, it has all four boards and plays so smoothly. The Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Defender, Zaxxon, and Joust are all excellent. Pole Position looks a lot like the 2600 version, but plays better than the 2600 or 7800 (PPII) versions. Plus there are tons of other arcade games, like Apple Panic (arcade Space Panic) that just don't exist on the 2600 or 7800. And there are many, many arcade style games like Lode Runner, Miner 2049er, and Blue Max that you can't find on a 2600 or 7800. I love the 2600 and 7800, but the 8-bits are worth checking out for the fun and the variety of the games.
  20. I agree with mimo's post. All those games are excellent, especially Pac-Man Collection and Centipede (you can play two players at the same time/same screen). Plus I'd add the homebrew Beef Drop (really impressive), and Choplifter (difficult but fun). And there is quite a following for the adventure Midnight Mutants.
  21. They work fine on mine. Sometimes it takes a few tries, getting them to fit and read properly, but that happens on my 2600 sometimes with Activision carts as well.
  22. Thanks Impaler_26 for the screenshots! The game looks quite good. I've always enjoyed the original in a pool/billiards sort of way.
  23. Most of the games mentioned above are back for now. Take a look in the store.
  24. Are there any screenshots of Miniature Golf Plus floating about?
