Let's Pool Our Resources and Buy Atari - How Much Will You Contribute?
Mirage replied to Dr Manhattan's topic in Atari 2600
Exactly. My collection is an "Atari" collection, period. It contains items from 1977 through the '90s (and yes, I realize Atari didn't start in 1977, but I don't have anything made prior), spanning VCS/2600, 5200, 7800, original A8, XL, XE, Atari-brand, Sears-brand, all third-party, pirate, you name it. Even all the Flashback units (so, really, through current). Anything "Atari" at all "makes sense" in such a collection. This thread really has hit new heights of anal retentiveness. -
Now I have an '11 Ram Hemi Express, but I wish I'd kept my '68 D-100 Adventurer. Oh well.

Interest/Price check - Commodore 64 Chevy Tech disk
Mirage replied to Grig's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
If only it had been Mopar, I'd have been interested for sure Actually, I'm pretty sure I have either an A8 or C64 disk similar to this, but not the same. IIRC, I think it was Buick or Olds. -
Let's Pool Our Resources and Buy Atari - How Much Will You Contribute?
Mirage replied to Dr Manhattan's topic in Atari 2600
Yes, of course I realize it's a Corp certificate. By "boxed 2600 collection", I meant all my game boxes (I don't even have any boxed consoles), and many of those (actually, most) are Atari Corp. titles. My Atari collection spans from the beginning through about '92, so yes, it makes perfect sense. Perhaps I should have just said "Atari" collection or "boxed 2600 games collection" to avoid this. -
Great to deal with, hope to again, thanks!

Thanks! I just bought one. This is going to look great framed next to my boxed 2600 collection! -
Exactly. It wasn't because he was an "asshole" (whether he was or not). It was because he had a vision. Whether that vision agreed with what everyone wanted or not was not his concern. He was shooting for his vision of greatness, elegance, the intersection of technology and liberal arts.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Mirage replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
In a thrift store? -
Of course he knows they're fake. People keep buying them, so he keeps making them. Some people have no shame.

Well, that's one way to get rid of commons that no one wants! Unfortunately, the world is full of people with no integrity.

Good point. My International Basic Programming and Berzerk have the multi languages on the back, but are NTSC. So basically, it sounds like without actually seeing the back, there's no guarantee -- inconclusive.
-
Actually, I just looked at my PAL Fatal Run. It only has English on the back. I have no idea whether that would be true of other red box PAL titles, since that one was different (I think no NTSC version released?), but maybe.
-
OK, cool. I'm just thinking of filling the Kids Games (and some other) holes in my collection with PAL boxes (I have the NTSC carts). I think so long as the fronts are the same, I'd be fine with it, since I'm not starting a museum, I just like looking at all of them together in the bookcase

This is the best type of guy to deal with. I bought a quite large lot of boxed games from Frank, and everything was in GREAT shape, the guy knows how to pack. Totally honest guy to deal with. I feel absolutely confident recommending him to anyone.
-
I'm wondering if there's any differences in the boxes between the NTSC and PAL versions of these titles... anyone know? Thanks! RealSports Boxing Alpha Beam with Ernie Big Bird's Egg Catch Oscar's Trash Race

That is sweet!

Atari 800XL vs C64: Best Versions of Games
Mirage replied to donjn's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I already mentioned this to the OP in a PM, but I think the main reason to have an 800XL in addition to a C64 is for the great A8 homebrew games. Of course, you could play those in emulation, but for those of us who like to play on real hardware (though not necessarily with real floppy drives), an A8 setup is worth having. I've said it a million times already, but the 1541-Ultimate-II has been my best overall retrogaming purchase. Despite the higher cost, IMO it's one of the most brilliant pieces of hardware for use with retro computers ever made. Worth every last penny. Love my A8 SIO2SD too though! -
Atari 800XL vs C64: Best Versions of Games
Mirage replied to donjn's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Assuming you're using the same joystick in each port, you don't have to unplug anything, you just have to grab the other stick. Invariably for me, the one I need is the one that just dropped on the floor If you keep 2 different types of controller/joystick plugged in, or have a preference for a specific one, then I guess that could be an issue. I just use 2 regular CX-40's though. This is one way the Vic-20 is superior to the C64 too... no joystick confusion!!! -
Yes, those are Apple monitor stands. They come in handy, wish I had another one. An 800XL fits right under one so I can switch easily between my C64 and 800XL. I hear they're handy for holding up Apple monitors too LOL

Most of that is easily rectified by JiffyDOS. Not knowing which joystick it is expecting me to use has been an annoyance to me for 30 years though! -

No, there's one grossly overpriced, there's one without manual that I think is also a little high, and there's one trashed one. I'm aware of ebay, but I'm looking here. Thanks anyway!

Mirage replied to Mirage's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Here are pictures of what's left to make it easier (text in first post is also up to date). I also have most the manuals still (text in first post is up to date on those too, didn't take a new photo). Seriously, I want these to go to a good home. Make an offer or trade offer, I'll probably go for it. Doubles just simply don't do me any good at all. Also, here's pics of the Basic Programming Int'l NTSC. Great condition. Missing the right overlay. $17 plus shipping. Thanks! -
Found Indy 500 and Maze Craze! Which completes my Atari 2600 colored box collection! Still looking for Mario Bros. I'm sort of casually interested in the kids games, which I don't have. I'm actually thinking about buying the cheap PAL NIB ones since I already have all the carts... hmmmm....
