Oh, I see now, he said none of the plastic appears to be damaged. I was picturing melted cartridge shells. I FAIL reading comprehension today!

If there's anything super rare in there, it may still have some value if the PCB is intact, especially if it's a proto. This is unlikely to be the case though. If they're just regular common or relatively easily obtainable carts, they probably have little to no value. Most 2600 carts are easy enough to get, so something with significant damage really has no desirability. Best thing for them would be to just get them to a new collector who just wants to start out playing some fun games on real hardware (and I only say this because it would pain me to see a playable cart thrown in the trash (again)).

Heh heh heh, I must admit Heavy Sixer's have the same effect on me. Yeah, I noticed that poor choice of phrasing after I clicked "add reply" but was too lazy to edit it.

I got my woody 6-switch brand new for Christmas 1981. They were selling pretty hot at that time, so I doubt it was some old inventory sitting around (but possible, who knows?), but I suspect there were still light-sixers being made in 1981 for some reason.

Anyone have a list of all the games with Teddy Bear difficulties?
Mirage replied to Mingy Jongo's topic in Atari 2600
I think it's a stylistic question; the earlier games may have had children's difficulty levels, but I don't think they were called "Teddy Bear" levels. It's related to the question of when the 2600 first showed "Game Over". All the early games had a clear "game over" indication, but what was the first game to actually show the words? Hit the nail right on the head. Okay, and again, that's fine, but they always showed the little picture of the Teddy Bear on the box & manual, so I'd still call them Teddy Bear levels. Your OP didn't ask about which ones had the graphic in the game, so, I guess it's a matter of semantics. I was just trying to answer the question as you had originally asked it. I still feel the earlier games are now going to lose out since those are indeed Teddy Bear difficulty games as well. So, "Does anyone have a list of all the games with a Teddy Bear icon in the game itself to signify a Teddy Bear difficulty level?" Carry on then! EDIT: by this narrow definition, many of the games listed above aren't "Teddy Bear difficulty" games, as there is no icon in the game, only on the manual and box. -

Okay, well, that's fine, but do you mind if I ask why? Why are the ones before they started putting the graphic in the game any less a part of the "Teddy Bear" difficulty releases? It's the same concept, it's the same in every way except that later they started putting the graphic in there. It started much earlier than that, and was a fantastic idea! So, in my opinion, a list of all the Teddy Bear difficulty games would be just that -- all of them. -

Don't feel bad. I don't remember a teddy bear icon in Asteroids either and I had the game back in the day. EDIT : Actually I just loaded up the rom and cycled through the game choices. No teddy bear icon. I'm pretty sure they didn't start the whole teddy bear icon thing till arouund when Ms Pac Man came out. Not in the game, but look at the box/manual: http://www.atariage.com/box_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=1007 This wasn't a later addition to Asteroids, as I clearly remember it from my Asteroids (first game I got with my VCS) in late 1981. -

They used the teddy bear icon on Asteroids... I didn't know there was a difference between this teddy bear and later teddy bears...? -

Asteroids. -
Oh Cripes, you said the manual. You have to go by the original manual, not by the new thing written by the new company where they've probably never even played it! It's a two-player only game.

Where does the manual say it's for 1 player?

What have you NAMED (personally) because of ATARI 2600?
Mirage replied to prorobb's topic in Atari 2600
I wanted to name our hypothetical future daughter "Stella", but then a few days after I thought of it (and my wife unwittingly agreeing to it as a possibility), her cousin named their new daughter Stella, so that's pretty much right out. I probably wouldn't even want to imagine the fight that would ensue the day my wife found out the inspiration for the name. Sure, it would be too late, but not too late to castrate me. -
I agree! Sell me those doubles!

WTF else would one call a box of uh.... Legos? Everyone I've ever known has called them that. What are they supposed to be... Legii? I'm sorry, but the correct term is "Lego Bricks" Okay, that makes sense. But seriously, who calls them that in everyday conversation? At least it's not just plain wrong like "tapes" is for cartridges. I've never ever ever heard anyone call them "Lego Bricks", ever.

It always annoyed me when adults called them "tapes". What's funny to think about is that those adults back then were probably about the age I am now, which makes me wonder what funny things I say around young people today.

What makes you think it was mail order only? I clearly remember seeing them in stores like LaBelle's back then. I actually wanted one until everyone I knew started getting VCS's.

Rescued some Commodore stuff today!
Mirage replied to oldgames's topic in Classic Console Discussion
One of the thing my company does is computer recycling, we chuck the commodore stuff all the time. Didn't know anyone wanted it.A few years ago we tried selling C64's and 16541's tested, couldnt get $9 each so we started parting them for recycling. Guess I need to check again. Well, yeah, the average person on the street isn't interested, but the collectors are... but the collectors aren't around your recycling place. Do you think everyone is interested in Atari stuff? Of course not... same with C= stuff. Grab it all, put it all on Lemon64.com forums, or here, or if nothing else eBay. -

That's hilarious. We all know that the discrepancy between 2600 box art and the game is wide, but that is absolutely ridiculous!

The best solution is the above-mentioned RF to coax adapter. If you really need to hook it up like you're saying, a down and dirty way of doing it is with an old VCR. It doesn't even need to work (but it will probably need to be powered on successfully). Just plug the Atari into the VCR's cable input (using the RF to coax adapter), then run your video/audio cables to the TV or monitor. I have mine set up like this to play on a Commodore 1702 monitor, and it works perfect! I just have the VCR under the monitor which needed to be higher anyway. If you don't have an old VCR, get one at a thrift store for a couple bucks. You can probably even find an old '80s-looking one pretty easily, for full effect!

Right! Every labelless-PB cart I've ever seen is a Frogger. That's what happened to all the Hulk protos... they're Froggers now! ("I'm chaaaaannngggiiiinnngggg!!!!")
-
Me too... that must be it then... once it's cheaper and easier to start getting boxes than to get a new game, you do it... just like a junkie to get a fix!
-
I'd poop myself if I walked in there and saw that without warning! Looks more '70s though, really. Would be 48% cooler if they had a 6- or 4- switcher, but that's nitpicking. Very very cool! BTW, a lot of Wisconsin still looks like that. 'spacially up nort.

What's the best way to store your cartridges without an organizer?
Mirage replied to Ferret75's topic in Atari 2600
You should make a bunch of these and sell it to those of us who don't have access to a table saw right now. Maybe in a couple different sizes. Through the AA store maybe? Just an idea? Either way, really nice. Good job!
