Emulation on the Atari Flashback 5
Mirage replied to Mirage's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
They really are. I wouldn't have bought them for myself except since I sold my modest CV setup last year, I will enjoy trying out more of those games. -

OK thanks for the heads up. I was never a CV player, so I might not even notice. Same with intellivision. -
Emulation on the Atari Flashback 5
Mirage replied to Mirage's topic in AtGames Flashback and Portable Consoles
Awesome, thank you. I know he won't care, but it would bug me if it were way off from what I experienced as a kid. I will emulate some systems on my computer but not the 2600. But I think this will be perfect for his birthday along with the coleco and intellivision units! -
They were all like that on every single unit at my TRU. On the INTV, Coleco, Atari and Sega units. I think the glue they used on the stickers just wan't very strong. I found no indication that any of the ones I bought had been actually opened, as I checke before I left the store. Obviously, I'd recommend doing the same!

I just picked one up yesterday. Haven't opened it yet. My original question was does it use emulation, but I found my answer to that... apparently it is, like the 3 and 4. So my new question is: I bought this to give to my son for his third birthday so he can go to town with this rather than play with my real consoles (until later), and use the big screen TV. I assume the emulation is using real ROMs, so is the emulation "good enough"? I don't want him playing with something that is going to not give him close to the real experience. Experiences either with the 3, 4, or 5 in this regard? Thanks. It's been awhile (close to 2 years) since I've done anything at all with retrogaming, pretty much since my son was born, but now that he's almost old enough to start enjoying it, I think I will too!

I picked one up yesterday at Toys R Us. They had 2 more on the shelf along with a couple more Atari 5's and Intellivision ones.

Unmodified and unopened C64 as a USB keyboard
Mirage replied to galax's topic in Commodore 8-bit Computers
That is very cool, thanks for posting. I actually recently got a couple Arduino units, but haven't had time to dive into them yet, so don't have the knowledge to do this. Neat idea for a project though! -
Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
Mirage replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Hence, citation needed. There are varied tax laws, so I'll give benefit of the doubt that in some location and/or time, that could be true, but that's not the norm, and is not how taxes work for businesses. In short, normally you do inventory to determine cost of goods sold and other reasons, but not to pay taxes on held finished (or wip) goods every three months. And that's not the reason for JIT manufacturing. So citation needed for that time and locations tax laws to determine validity, otherwise there are too many varying tax laws to say for sure either way. -

I agree, but I wasn't referring to the prices! -

Would you mind giving more info about this? (PMing me is fine if you prefer since this is an offtopic tangent, but others may be interested). I've heard of KeyRah and other hardware to use the C64 as a USB keyboard, but I'm not sure that's what you're referring to here... ? Thanks! -

Like I think I mentioned before, if they go on sale at some point, and are somehow certified as authentic, and are for around $10 (I would think the city would have to sell them for that since that's what they stated the value as, and it may hurt their "donation" amount otherwise -- if it's the city selling them), I will probably buy one. But, that doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with you, it's more likely to mean there's something wrong with both of us. -

The real interesting part of this subject is all the misunderstandings, misinterpretations, miscommunications and just plain old butthurt that has resulted from it over the years. May it never die! -

Right, so you've explained why it obviously does happen, but no matter the intent, the result is the same. A lot of news is very misleading at best and often downright inaccurate. I doubt there's many news reporters intentionally writing incorrect info, but all news needs to be viewed with a suspicious eye, for the reasons you mention, and others. -

What a horrible clip (the CNN one) with many inaccuracies. Plus they didn't show the other games found, just E.T., implying only E.T. was found. It's things like this that make me not trust all of the news. If there's a story I know nothing about, how do I know it's not just as slanted or inaccurate? -

It's one of the most common carts there is. I can't even remember how many I've given away and sent to Al for homebrew shells (once he started accepting silver ones). If anyone is paying any more than for Asteroids or Defender, they're crazy. Fool born every minute! -

I don't care what I think of it today. I haven't plugged it in in probably 10 years at least. What I DO know is that back in 1982, I had a lot of fun with it. After about 10 minutes, I had no trouble getting out of the pits and I enjoyed the game after that. Wasn't a great game, but certainly not a game deserving of the derision it receives today. The dump was of a bunch of unsold and unwanted stock after demand dwindled significantly. It isn't about E.T. much more if any more than it is about other games. That said, I would probably buy an E.T. (or maybe other game) from the landfill to add to my collection just for the heck of it. Why not. But not if it's over $10 (+ship) as the City of Alamagordo has estimated them to be worth. It would be the only piece of literal garbage I've ever bought. My wife would beg to differ of course! -

Those are great! I still have all my Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica cards from elementary school, but I don't have any complete sets. I don't remember for sure, but I never ate lunch, so I probably traded hot lunch tickets for them like I did for everything else. I'm sure my incomplete sets cost my mom a lot more than $1! -

Mirage replied to Mirage's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Oh yeah, will probably trade for Arduino stuff you don't need -
Hey All... I've been pretty scarce lately. Busy with other things. Still into the videogame stuff, just more quietly I picked up a lot of N64 stuff for some carts I didn't have and here is the rest that I don't need. How does $40 + shipping sound? US only. PM me. Not too interested in trades, because I don't need more stuff around here! But hey, I'm hard to offend, so let me know what you have, you never know. Includes: Nintendo 64 Power and TV cords Memory expander (installed) Jumper pack a memory card 2 official Nintendo controllers (one grey, one that's smokey color (Smoke?)) Diddy Kong Racing Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Super Mario 64 Cruis'n USA Knife Edge: Nose Gunner Hexen (writing on edge) Quest 64 (writing on edge) Mage: The Dark Age (writing on edge) (One cart jumped into the picture by mistake (photo bomb!) so I blacked it out... comes with the 8 carts listed). Thanks. (Click on picture for larger image).

Coleco Industries - The Rise & Fall - History Book
Mirage replied to retroillucid's topic in CollectorVision
Subscribed! I'm almost more interested in this than in the Atari stuff, since I know next to nothing about Coleco-anything. -
We've gone 30 years without knowing whatever it is, a little more time isn't going to hurt anyone.
