  1. Can you guys recommend where I would get that Atari 800xl composite cable?
  2. Isn't that a disk drive emulator that will not use ROM files?
  3. Long time Commodore 64 user here. I currently have a Commodore 64 with a 1541 Ultimate II disk drive emulator hooked up to a Commodore 1084s CRT monitor. Its a nice setup and I enjoy it. But lately, the urge is there. I want to experience Atari 8-bit computer games. I cannot put my finger on what it is about them. I think it is the colors, they seem brighter and richer. Now, the emulators are fine and work well. But I am very picky when it comes to input delay. I am very happy with the Atari800Win and the Altirra, both of which have much lower input delay then lets say, the Vice for the C64. So I basically want to experience an awesome Atari 8 bit computer gameplay on my composite CRT lag free. The games I want to play are pretty much these: Hero, Jumpman Jr, Dropzone, Load Runner, Pitfall II, Donkey Kong, River Raid, Shamus, Galaxian, Montezuma's Revenge, Spelunker, etc, etc. I've gone through several ideas here: 1. Get a real Atari 800, or 800xl, or Atari 400 and try to go for SIO2SD or Ultimate cart-like solution. Would I need to get an 800 or 800xl or would a 400 be fine? Also, I prefer to run "roms" from http://www.atarimania.com. So would I even need an SIO2SD? I would think a multicart option would do? 2. Try the Rasberry PI / RetroPie idea. I've looked at this extensively, and it just looks like a pain in the butt to setup. 3. Stick with Atari800Win and the Altirra and be happy with them. It might not be worth spending a large amount of money to play only a handful (about 25) of Atari games. That being said, any help would be appreciated. Heck, if someone has something for sale that would be great too.
  4. I have a Commodore setup in my garage and I have a big enough table where I want to add another classic system. I was wondering what you guys think would be the best to go with as a second classic system Odyssey 2 The Odyssey 2 is a system I owned when I was 10. While everyone else had Atari VCS I had this. I eventually moved over to Atari but always have a place in my heart for this system. I still love the games and having a console would be great. Some advanatges are that the games and system can be had really cheaply, as ther eis little demand for Odyssey 2 anymore. Atari 800 I have never owned or played much on this system. I have always been a Commodore fan. But deep down inside, I love Atari. So my question is, by owning a Commodore 64 and 128 with the 1541 Ultimate drive, do I really need an Atari 800? They have some of the same games as the C64. Some are better and have better colors, but most dont have the graphics of the C64. This would be a much more expensive option and would require the purcase of the SIO2PC so I would not need to use drives. Plus if I want to save money I would need a computer in the garage for this. I am leaning towards an Atari 800 though. The Odyssey 2 has very limited games and feels more like nostalgia. The Atari would be something new for me. What do you think?
  5. Thanks for your help. I went out at lunch and purchased this guy from Radio Shack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103793 Both Radio Shack employees I talked told me that it is was not possible to get one mono RCA signal to play in both speakers. Out here in California we have a saying...Radio Shack is just a detour whilst on the way to Fry's Electronics.... Amazing...
  6. Maybe this would work too? Just so I learn, why didn't my extension one work? Is it because I went from mono directly into a stereo 3.5mm, bypassing a proper splitter?
  7. Would something like this work? http://www.radioshac...ductId=2103793# Keep in mind I tried this before using this below but it didn't work. I assume its because I never split the signal:
  8. Thanks. Actually I need to explore the other option. The Commodore 9 pin cable has a white "audio out" male. With an adapter I have tried to plug this into a 3.5mm (computer speakers) system and sound only comes out of one side. I know it is mono, but I am a bit OCD and would like this mono sound to come out of both speakers. Is there anyway to force a mono out phono (RCA) to split and provide sound to both left and right speakers?
  9. I have a brown model 1802 monitor and I would love to get sound in both speakers. There are two audio inputs. One is for the chroma/luma setup the other is for standard video with audio. Would something simple like a RCA splitter provide sound in both speakers if it was plugged into both audio ports? http://1.bp.blogspot...ca+splitter.jpg http://gona.mactar.h...wn_Version).pdf
  10. There is somehtign to be said for the "other wordly" look but only for about 5 minutes, then im done lol.... My facination when I was younger was the lava in Ultima III. Anyone else just sit there, watching the lava flow in Ultima III when they were younger?
  11. I could never get into the tileset from the IBM versions of Ultima III through V. Even with the music and new sprties it never felt "warm" to me. Nothing in my eyes beats the Commodore for those versions and especially the C128's Ultima V with music. Then the DOS version of Ultima VI which has a lot of warmth to it.
  12. That could be right if they are spaced on opposite sides of the map. Maybe they used to have a wondering range limit but in XU4 that was not coded in. How far apart were they?
  13. Is Richard ever in Los Angeles? Albert, I am jus tlike you, one of the biggest Ultima fans there are...
  14. What is the Freezer Cart? I guess if I have to ask, then I have nothing to worry about in this case? lol So go into C128 mode Basic, mount Ultima V, then hit reset?
  15. If you could test this that would be so awesome of you man... if you hear the game music then it worked!
  16. Ultima V is a game that requires you to just turn on the C128 and not touch a thing. It autoboots into the game. How would this work on the Ultimate? Has anyone tried or cna confirm they can use autoboot with Ultima V in C128 mode on the 1541 Ultimate? I ask because you need to be on the main screen in order to access your list of games. And at that time you are long past the autoboot process.
  17. Last night I fired up Jumpman Jr on the real Commodore, then I fired up on Vice 64. I could not believe the real world difference between the two. The original hardware reaction time is so much better its not even funny. The emulation felt like a "software version pretending to be the real thing". Almost like those browser based Super Mario NES games that can't compare to an original NES. I am seriously considering not giving up. keeping this stuff and waiting for the 1541 Ultimate II.
  18. I might keep the C64 and I have a monitor. I just would rathe ruse an emulator at this point. I also dont wnat to wait months for the 1541 Ultimate II
  19. It is just disks with tons of copied games, some blanks, utilities, etc on them. There must be at least 100 disks there. I will take pics and upload when I get home.
  20. Its this. It actually says "DLink". I would normally worry but technology has changed over 30 years and this thing powered it up with no issues.
  21. As it turns out my intellivison controllers have the pins backwards! Tom was awesome helping me and even made new adaptors and sent them to me immediately! Awesome job!
