  1. I posted some old scans, in the publications forum, from MAD Magazine. In the parody, they create video games based on real life... kinda. I was wondering which ones you guys think would be decent homebrews? http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/167708-mad-magazine-video-games-in-real-life/
  2. Hey all. I finally found a copy online of one my favorite MAD Magazines parodies from back in the 80's. In this parody, MAD Magazine created a series of "video games" based on real life. Actually, many of these are do-able on the Atari 2600! Enjoy.
  3. Wow. Impressive work. It's hard to believe this is an Atari.
  4. Actually, I think there is something far more sinister to that label art...
  5. In all seriousness, I understand the poster's point of view. The original picture label style is unique, beautiful, and certainly ingrained with everything "Atari". However, there were quite a few label styles back in the day - and each company had their own. Imagic often used photographs (of models) as their label art and M Network lacked artwork altogether! Every homebrewer can be seen as their own "company". So the artwork really has no bounds.
  6. Perhaps this will be acceptable.....
  7. I finally got my old Atari 2600 out of mothballs tonight. Why? Well, I got a copy of my game on cartridge - and it looks great! Albert does fantastic work! Anyway, I had to try it out on my old Darth Vader 2600. I have some bad snow, so I'll be visiting Radio Shack tomorrow. So here is a picture of my old (not huge) cartridge collection. I also used to have Q-Bert and Ice Hockey.
  8. Wow. It looks exceptional so far! Is there any plans to make it so you become temporary invincible after taking a hit? I've entered a few screens and bump-bump-bump-dead. In any case, this is a very cool adventure game.
  9. What does the cartridge plastic look like? Is it smooth or does it have a grip like a legit cartridge?
  10. Wow, those work quite well. ... of course, I would love to see Mousetrap in one!
  11. Hey all, I wanted to give everyone an update. I finished some kernal code changes and am starting work on "K.O. Atari Legends" (or whatever it will be called). I am hoping to add a two-player option. After that, I plan to make K.O. X-Mas and hopefully finish it before X-Mas this year. The characters will include Frosty, Santa, Rudolph, an Elf, Scrooge, etc...
  12. I'm working on a few changes in the kernal code before I write another boxer game. Anyway, currently in K.O. Cruiser, I am using the players to display the health bars - with the missiles "smoothing" them. It works, but the health bars are only 8x4 = 32 pixels wide. The new version uses the playfield to get 64 pixel-wide health bars. I initially tried to use the "score" feature, but it didn't work. Evidently, the playfield cannot be in *both* score and priority mode. Oh well. So, I am using missile 0 in the middle (to hide the "smoothers"). I change the color of the playfield when CPU is behind missile 0. Anyway, it works well in Stella, but I would like to see how it works on a real machine before I proceed. 13. Does everyone think that we should create an "eBay Blacklist" that contains the names of deceptive or dishonest sellers? Or perhaps, a thread that tells how to avoid cheap fakes and forgeries. Basically, a warning about the Hozer face and other tell-tale signs. Such a list should be pinned at the top of this sub-forum.
  14. Here's an auction of a Hozer "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" without any mention of it being a reproduction. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 320546716267 I wonder if the seller knows.
  15. The bad blood is based on basically scamming people - such as people on eBay. Check out the link in the first post of this thread: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/162451-whooaaaa-boxed-hozers-lol/page__view__findpost__p__2003687 That cartridge - the super rare Chainsaw Massacre - sold for $170. There is one problem though, it is a reproduction.
  16. Oooooh. I see. Throw me under the bus, will ya. If Albert takes a Texas longhorn and shoves it where the sun doesn't shine - I will blame YOU! The game is very great. I love the artwork you have for the cartridge/box.
  17. I agree. The music is quite exceptional. Its hard to believe that the good 'ole Atari only has 5-bit sound!
  18. The guy who is alpha-and-omega on AtariAge is Albert. He is very busy at the moment planning for the Classic Gaming Expo in Vegas. So, don't worry about the delay. I'm sure his e-mail inbox is overflowing at this point. AtariAge can publish your work and put it in the store. My first homebrew, K.O. Cruiser, will be appearing at the CGE.
  19. Wow. Your game looks very cool. You should start a thread here in Homebrews! Maybe one that just links back to the bAtari thread.
  20. Oh I forgot to mention: printing a non-standard 5x7 size to a PDF can be a tad tricky. You have to make sure that both Word (or whatever software you will use) sends it to the PDF printer as 5x7 *AND* the PDF software is setup to print it as 5x7.
  21. This game is truly epic. The only thing I would suggest - play the death sound effect when you die by falling.
  22. Atari manuals are typically 5" x 7". AtariAge has a great collection of fonts that mimic that old Atari look: http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/AtariFonts/index.html?SystemID=2600
  23. If it works the same as batari Basic, the ball isn't affected: devin_ball_test_2010y_07m_17d_1210t.bin Excellent. Thank you!
