Yeah, I just bought a very similar new pair...eventually I want to buy refurbished originals to just have as a collectors item.
It's crazy how many variations there are of everything.
-
Wow fellas, thanks for the responses...this has been very helpful.
I'm probably overspending for the boxes and instructions, but I just want my original core set of games to look as legit as possible. I'm not as in to the shrinkwrapped stuff for now because you can't play those!
It's quite a bit of of fun to hunt through the lists of games and see random ones that I had as a kid like "eggomania" and "airlock"...for some reason I thought those lesser known games would disappear.

Okay, one more important question.I'm seeing these sealed games like these ones here.
Are these legit or are they remakes??
They're legit. They're not exactly "remakes", but in some cases they may be reissues. For instance, Ms. Pac-Man may not be the original 1982 release, it may be a reissue from 1987...it's identical except for minor details like copyright info. Welcome to the wonderful world of box, manual, and label variations!
Another thing to watch out for is the unscrupulous "resealers" -- look out for scuffs and corner/edge wear under the shrinkwrap. Some knowledgeable folks might even be able to tell you which games were not originally shipped in shrinkwrap, so any shrinkwrapped copies of those games that you see today must be bogusly "sealed".
Okay, that makes sense.

Hmmm...thanks for the info.
I would venture to guess the older the copyright date, the more of a collectible it is...interesting.

Looking for an Atari2600A system box in good to excellent condition. Will pay market price immediately.
Thanks!!

...I'm finding some sites have the cartridges in boxes with instructions but they go for as much as 20 bucks.LOL
You'll soon find that many go for A LOT more than that.
Is there a good site to get these or do I basically need to shop on eBay to find the bargains?Atari2600.com and tradengames.com are good sources for boxed games. You can also find good deals on eBay if you are patient. You can also find stuff for sale by browsing the Marketplace forum here (for even better results, post an ad in the 'Wanted' section).
Good luck and happy hunting.

Terrific, thanks for the help. I'm willing to pay market price even if it's expensive, as long as it's fair.

I'm in the market for a 2600A box, hopefully one with the original inserts and instruction booklets as well. If anyone has one for sale please let me know.
Thanks!

A month ago I would of said you paid too much but recently it seems that the Atari 2600 is in an upswing. One word of advice. If you are patient you can get all the good games like Frogger, Pac-Man, Pitfall, Pitfall II, Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers for less than $5.00 with the price of shipping included. This is the next step for me. I would like to get games that have boxes in good condition with instructions...they seem hard to find on eBay, but I'm finding some sites have them in boxes with instructions but they go for as much as 20 bucks.

Boxes are a little bit more expensive. The good thing is that they are not that much more expensive. Most of the popular games can be had for under $10 with shipping. There is a market place where you can list games that you want and people will P.M. you with prices of games they have. There are some really good deals that can be had with the other board members here.
Okay, great. I'm headed that way now.

The bidding went a little high for that one BUT..... The guy you bought it from is TOP NOTCH! I've bought several things from him, and have never been disappointed. If he forgot to include the video adapter, just email him and let him know, I'm sure he'll send you out one.Or (and I prefer these) you can get a coax adapter right here in the Atari Age Store for 3 bucks. http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?ma...;products_id=42
As far as joysticks, I would check the same guys auctions in a couple days and see what he has, or just email him and ask him about a couple (that way you can both avoid ebay fees). He rebuilds his joysticks with new switches and does a good job. If you buy just any old joysticks off ebay, you'll probably get worn out ones that you'll have to rebuild.
Or you could just post a wanted ad in the marketplace forum here. Somebody will shoot you a good deal.
..... and welcome to Atari Age!
thanks for the help!! One of the reasons why I liked this system was that it looked very new(newest of all those on eBay) and because the seller had a good reputation. I would have rather have gotten one with the box, for some reason that is important to me, but perhaps I can pick one up a la carte...although I haven't seen that yet. I bid 130 on a system earlier today that had the box....bidding ended up going all the way to 160.
I told my buddies that I picked this up and now they all want to pick one up...I wouldn't be surprised if these really become a hot item in the coming years...I know I'm totally stoked to get this.

I saw your auction and it said a tv switch came with it but I guess not. It's much easier to get the switch on eBay for about 5 bucks. If you want to use your tv for more than just the system get the switch that has the switch to slide between ANTENNA and CABLE TV. It works just fine.

Thanks for the help man.
Do you think I got a good deal?

Hi fellas,
I'm just getting into collecting 2600 stuff and picked up this 2600A system.
The problem is that the system didn't come with a switch box, do I need the switch box or am I okay with just a RF cable and coax converter?
Also, I'm looking to buy a system box. Does anyone know where to get one of those I haven't seen them for sale on their own?
Any suggestions on buying joysticks and boxed games?
Thanks a bunch, any help is appreciated...I'm looking forward to this forum, looks awesome.

No, I'm looking for the actual cardboard box that the 4 switch woody game came in, but I'm also interested in a six switch box.
