  1. Flawed, no. Inferior, yes. Point to Rex Dart (however the guy WAS looking for a system to play 2600 games on, but I'm not about to say that playing 7800 games is a bad idea!)
  2. it wasn't designed to play 7800 titles,.. that's like claiming the Pizza Napoletana is flawed cause it doesn't have meat.
  3. not to start a flam war or anything, but the Harmony doesn't need a 2nd edition, it's perfect the way it is... (so far...) Back on topic of 7800 vs 2600 to play VCS games....
  4. Cuttle cart?, yeah breakout the 56k modem while your at it... no offense to the cuttle cart creators, but the harmony cart beats the cuttle like VHS beat Beta.
  5. I know what you mean by my misuse of the term 'licensed', cause there was no licensing then, nut what I mean is seems like it'd be in the same category as the odd Taiwan exclusive or Zellers exclusive. if the creators had, say, instead sold the game (or whatever the business terms would be) to Zellers to distribute and in turn at least enough copies floated around that it was known by now, maybe 10-20 in circulation, it'd probably be known as "...A rare game distributed in Canada by Zellers right around the crash. Hard to find, but also hard to tell if it's worth paying for, the graphics are merely ET ripoffs, and the game play seems to be a hodgepodge of existing games..." But since it's not 10-20 copies, it's only 1, it's suddenly for much more important. Singularity does not equate Individuality But hey, have at 'er, I'm just stoked to know there's a Computer Museum in Ontario. I gotta get out that way.
  6. Not to be a debbie-downer, but I'm surprised there's so much hooplah over an unlicensed game, that is the equivalent of a Homebrew in my eyes. Even if it is authentically old, it's still an unlicensed homebrew, and not an official release of any kind... But it's still amazing how it sat unknown for so long...
  7. In Alex Kidd: High-Tech World you can go visit you friend and he'll play 'the latest Fantasy Zone record' and it play Fantasy Zone's main title theme. Back then, little did I know you could actually buy video game music in Japan.
  8. Good choices in carts my man.. but then I don't know what they had for you to to pick from either...
  9. didn't mean to imply that I thought YOU thought you were getting more sound... just stating a point
  10. That stylus is only readng ONE channel of audio my friend... fork it to a million speakers if you want....
  11. Why is everyone so hung up on s-video and composite mods... the fucking thing came with a color/b&w switch and I remember hooking mine up with a butter knife many times. You wanna play PS3, fine do it in Hi Res, but outputting a VCS to Hi Res cabling is like hooking up your old 78 speeds to a 7.1 surround sound system.... totally un-fucking-necessary... isn't it that 'old school' feeling your trying to relive... God knows when I'm playing Asteroids the odd flicker or static on the screen is gonna TOTALLY ruin my experience and make me chuck my system out the window... <sarcasm intended here> I remember my sisters hairdryer fuckin with my old Sega RF... it comes with the territory man... comes with the territory. *EDIT After re-reading my post I realized I missed the point of my statement. If you plan to mod for hi-res, just use Stella, you'll save some money. If you want a VCS experience get a a light sixer, the diff switches will be easily accessible and its cheaper than a heavy sixer.
  12. My friend and my schools computer room had these joysticks with an autofire switch on the base. Those rocked. I never found one to buy and have never seen one since... here's a pic I found online
  13. Yup, I came home to my parents for a visit and my dad asks me if I still had my old Atari, cause he found one. Long story short my old one died years ago and I'd been looking for one ever since, never EVER found one, so less than a year ago I bought one from someone on here, NOW my dad just happens across one! But that's cool, I'm gonna clean this one up and hope it works. It's a black 'vader' console. VERY dirty. He wouldn't disclose exactly WHERE he found it, I don't know why he wouldn't, but I tend not to ask my dad the same question twice, his first answer is his final answer. Plus it has no hookups, just the RCA cord coming out of the back. Luckily I have a spare adapter and the rca/coaxial adapters can be found at The Source right? I hope... If it works I figure I'll set it up on a 13" in my parents rec room, it'll look nice beside the pool table and Mario Bros. arcade game. Luckily I got doubles of all the classics I remember dad playin on my old Atari that I had growing up, Defender, Missle Command, Asteroids, Yar's Revenge... My dad rocked at Yars and Defender. I remember he found the hidden initials in Defender which REALLY freaked us out. First of all getting to wave 25 was easy for dad, and one of his tactics was to always just grab and hold onto the first humanoid abducted and prevent any more from being picked up. Now we didn't realize that it was having your ship on one specific line that would make the initials would appear, just while he was flying around the screen sometimes all the enemies would turn into BFP. and BFP is both mine and my father initials! It was like the game was imprinting out initials into the game or something, we didn't know what was happening! Then I found the initials in Yars Revenge and had no idea what they meant or what happened, but wasn't impressed, just as every time it happens now it usually ruins a good game... just can't help doing a victory dance
  14. And it's for these reasons I dont get why they moved the switches to the back and made them tiny. [sarcasm] Good thing they left the Color/B&W switch easily accessible on every model, I remember that was the first switch I ever wore out it got so much use [/sarcasm]
  15. On the topic of necrobumping which seems to be going around, I must say I prefer necrobumping, because why have two versions of the same thread? just combine all the info into one big thread, and, not to sound snippy, but if you dont want us responding to old threads, why not have them autodelete 'x' months after creation? Or even now just clear the works except for the last year or 2?
  16. Spectravideo joystick? The QuickShot you mean?
  17. A good ol' Hilroy excercise book and 4 columns; Game title, game variation/diff switch settings, date, score For everything, VCS, SMS, Genny, etc...
  18. They also turn off the Phoenix music, controls Vanguardss firing setup and bring up the map screen in Starmaster. They don't ALWAYS affect difficulty. For a lot of games the A Position makes them closer to the arcade originals, granted it DOES increase the difficulty, but... No UFOs or Satellites in Asteroids? Where's the fun in that? No red balls in Q*Bert? bad enough they left out the gremlin who hopped all Escher-esque, but why would you WANT to leave out another enemy???
  19. I never understood these kinds of cases, like the official Atari ones similar to that, but they held 8 games. Who thinks, 'I'm gonna take my games out of their titled, clearly defining, artistically designed packaging and store them all in a plain title-less brown casing. other than for keeping the original boxes mint... Why I always loved Sega as a kid tho I guess, they made cases to last and protect your games...

    This is sad

    Jesus had days like that...
  21. Holy feck this was a lot of reading... but as was said in (very) few other posts, I believe his ideas COULD be realized in a Ghostbusters-esque game but nowhere near as clear/precise as he states, he obviously grew up with the NES or 16bit era machines considering his big plans... it's almost as if he just thought of the VCS as a system as powerful as any other around the late 80's/earlt 90's (despite the VCS coming out in the 70's!) just in very low res... yeah those screenshots he mocked up would totally work, forget memory/sprite/etc limitations, as long as it's blocky, the VCS can run it right?
  22. not to derail the topic, but I just recently got Space cavern in a lot from eBay. Had never heard of it before. Quite the unknown little gem I say, well, maybe not a GEM... but close... But back ON topic... well, kinda. Berzerk clones. I used to have a game for the C64 that was VERY much like Berzerk called , but it rocked because it had C64 graphics & sound. You were this little guy running from room to room with electrified walls, blasting baddies, much like Berzerk, but it wasn't just random room after room, there was a set maze made of interconnecting screens you traveled to find all 12 Zodiac symbols (hence the title I guess) Eventually you would fight a boss. I never did meet the boss though.
  23. I'm trying, but each time I catch up to one of your updates, my totals/rankings doesn't match yours... i don't get it... theoretically I should be able to just start adding new totals from your most recent update, but even the math between the updates doesn't work for me... people editing their posts/top tens AFTER thve been factored into the rankings maybe? In which case we'll never be able to keep up this list...
  24. Easy enough to tally votes, the thread isn't THAT long, just give em a point value of 1 to 10 based on user ranking, and start adding. Or do you guys have some other method I should use... I'm open to doing it the way you guys do it. *EDIT*. Just read the initial post again and realized that IS how you do it... I'll get started...
