  1. I must have missed them somehow  . However because you say the prices were unrealistic high, I wouldn't have bought them anyway! :? So I probably missed out on nothing this time! ;-)

I believe the seller was from Australia so... maybe you missed the "worldwide" option?

I'm sure it was some diehard collectors battling for those items. I was winning two of the auctions till that last day when it blew up on price. I believe TopDog on here maybe won some of these.

  2. In the last 5 years I never saw Chess, Space Speller or Zero In appearing for sale. As for Melody chase, I recall seeing them once or twice and only from Australia.

Extended Basic appeared about 2 times last year (one from the Netherlands and one from Australia), so I wouldn't say this the most rare cart like Intymike thinks. ;)

Chess to me is hands down the rarest. Space Speller and Zero were on Ebay (last year???). I was blown out of the water on the bidding for both.

That Extended Basic cart I've seen a few times. Most recently in a lot with the Aquarius computer itself. I recall the box not the greatest so I passed. Wish I would've followed through:/

  3. A full Aquarius collection is definitely an ambitious goal. I've seen Melody Chase on eBay two or three times in the last few years, and I think I've seen Extended BASIC once, but I don't recall ever seeing most of the other super-rare titles (Chess, Space Speller, and Zero In). As the saying goes, they're as elusive as Robert Denby, which is one of the reasons I put the Aquaricart together; most people would never get to see them on real hardware otherwise.

I have seen all of them at one time or another on Ebay with the exception of Chess.

Dare I say, Melody Chase is the more common of that bunch. :-o

  4.

With 8 games you are almost done. At least with cartridge based games.

Now you must look for games on cassette. :)

    Do you have Melody Chase?

I'm trying as well to get a complete collection for the Aquarius (boxed games that is).

The issue... the rest of the games I need are beyond rare (Chess, Space Speller, Melody...)

  5. I never knew that Swordquest players were originally intended to dig a sword out of the actual ground. Apparently, that was briefly the case, according to Roy Thomas, one of the comic-book artists:

"Then came Swordquest. Gerry [Conway] and I came up [to Silicon Valley] again and huddled with a couple of Atari’s engineers. The company had this general idea for a series of four interconnected games under the banner Swordquest, with a grand prize they’d promote to help sell it. A sword was to be buried somewhere in the United States, and the person who found it – working from clues that were to be embedded in the games themselves – would get a considerable amount of money.

"This was based on a similar gimmick that we were told had recently been used by a book company, with clues hidden in some picture book; that had sent people scrambling all over the country in search of a buried treasure. Gerry and I immediately came up with the idea that the four games should be based on the four classical 'elements' – earth, air, fire and water...

"Only thing is, as I recall, before we did the fourth comic, a real problem arose with the earlier treasure-hunt thing. We were told there were lawsuits in the case of the earlier book, because some overeager people hunting for the treasure were digging up people’s lawns and demolishing property. So Atari pulled the plug on the [idea]. Well, the comic book was a lot better than the game anyway."

The whole article is worth reading, as the writer exhibits a couple of possible books that the idea might have been "borrowed" from:

That kinda reminds me of this VCR game...

  6. At least should have Atari age or anyone interested in making a homebrew games of airworld and make some sort of contest, nothing like back then of course, I'm pretty sure any Atari fan would definitely pick this up, I would just my opinion on the matter

Honestly, even if there was no contest - it wouldn't bother me.

I would like it to stay to the true form of the predecessors and to the author's vision.

  7.

I agree. I simply do not understand the "completist" collector mindset. I have no desire to spend money on games that I do not enjoy playing/will never play. I have even donated games to Goodwill simply because they did not justify the storage space that they occupy in my closet.

I guess my situation stems from nostalgia.

My Atari 2600 Sears' collection is from vivid memories of my folks shopping at Sears in the '70s.

The NES (black box) is based on a father and son experience gaming session.

I do have majority of these already and I know a lot of the titles still devoid in my collection are terrible. Case in point Sears' Math Gran Prix.

  8.

You know, it suddenly occurs to me, I know of so many obscure Nintendo platform titles, and have so many great translations and hacks, but my Genesis collection looks pretty abysmal by comparison. Most of the real shining stars, I already own physical copies of (missing a few of the Treasure games, though). I really need to dig deep and find those hidden gems.

A few years ago I was on a tear a picked up some of the import titles: Alien Soldier, Undeadline, Battlemania II, et al.

I guess I was sorta xenophobic back than importing titles. Man, did I miss out on some gems! Especially considering the amount of coin some of these titles cost...Might eventually do the repro route .

  9. Castlevania Chronicles is actually a GOOD game that you'll have fun with, so maybe $100+... even $200... ain't bad.

    Here we have:

DK Jr. Math (NES) that sold for $1,305

    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Donkey-Kong-Jr-Math-NES-CIB-/281615940966?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41919e3d66

$100 is starting to sound kinda cheap...

Well.... I guess that throws out that CIB NES *black box* collection idea. :-o

  10. Some notables for me: (I prefer boxed items)

    Atari 2600

    Gremlins

    Frogger II

Swordquest Waterworld - I remember Kaybee Toys blowing these out cheap too :(

    Colecovision

    Frogger II again

    NES

I need 3 black box games to complete my collection: DK Math, Stack Up and Clu Clu - probably the most priciest too!

Mega Man 1 - I dragged my feet on this one since I played ad nauseum from friends - sucks cause I own 2-5 :/

  11. I have never been able to find a *suitable* controller configuration for this game.

The panel on the arcade was perfectly spaced for controls: Spinner - moving cursor side to side and up and down in the latter levels; shield button.

Too bad, I played an EDOT quite a bit on location.

    Hi,

    As of now, yes!

Crossed Swords 2 was an exclusive to the Neo-Geo CD. But in the future, Razoola wants will allow a choice of an MVS and AES as an unofficial game for the pair . Nothing has been finalized completely yet. Razoola is trying to find the best way possible to do this project! But I hope all works out and things are going as scheduled.

    I can't wait to purchase one! :)

    Anthony...

I was a big fan of Crossed Swords.

How does the sequel compare to the original one?

Is the person transferring the Neo CD version to cart, taking preorders soon? **** I'm not a member of the Neo forums....
