  1. That's cool. We lived in the neighborhood across from the high school. We moved away soon after I graduated in 85.

I used to love browsing at McDades. It's where I bought my first watch, an Armitron LCD, and my first Sony walkman, one of those tiny ones the size of a casette case. I was also into HO trains and used to go to the EG home center to drool over the train section they had there.

I don't recall when the Galaxy World opened up. Was it open when you lived there?

I forgot the shout out to the Kmart on Rt.64 as well.

We moved out of Carol Stream, I think around '78???

The first time I set foot into Galaxy World was in '87. I really don't recall seeing when we live in the city itself.

  2. I grew up in Carol Stream, IL which had the very large Galaxy World to play in. It was the place were I first experienced games like Zaxxon, Tron, Tempest. They also had older games like Warlords, which was a lot of fun. Only bad memory I have from that place is running out of money. ;)

    Very nice!

I lived in Carol Stream in the mid '70s.

Do you remember Mcdades of Rt 64? The Sears outlet store of Schmale Road?

We used to live in that apartment building by the hockey arena - can't recall the name????

  3. I enjoyed Batman Returns back in the day, and still do... I don't get why it's so hated.

I swing the opposite way, I find the Sega CD, while having better QUALITY music just doesn't have as good overall music, fitting the atmopshere, pumping you up... and the driving stages? Don't understand why they are so loved either. They're fun until you reach the "boss", then it goes from 'fun' to 'nuke the CD in a microwave' difficult... sometimes that firetruck can drain my full health bar in a second with it's flamethrower.

It's one of my favorites on the Genesis. It trumps the original in gameplay (my opinion).

The Genesis version's tunes are highly underrated even if Sunsoft wasn't associated with it. To me, I prefer the Genesis version over the Rock n Roll cd version.

And I agree... the difficulty may be a little too hard; another issue I had was the ability to see some of the enemies in that dark color palette in some of the stages.

  4. I remember them being black personally. I played with this unit pretty extensively back in the day at the local sears since the sears was right next to the local arcade.

Our local Kmart had the one pictured above like the Op's photo.

  5. Started in 1902 in the city of my birth, Minneapolis. I don't think they used the Target name till the 60's.

    Interesting.

I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and don't' recall see a Target till the latter half of the '80s.

  6. Let's discuss this game...

I, for one, love this game! Unfortunately, it seems like I'm in the minority on this reading reviews and watching Youtube reviews.

I see one of the big gripes on the the gameplay is where to go on certain screens. I kinda see that issue sans the instructions. Other than that though???

I definitely think it's a worthy sequel and let's face it; there has been some really awful followups to the originals!

I have the Colecoversion (loose cart): played this one the most; 2600 (loose cart). How were the others versions?

  7.

    Why so few?

EDIT: Ah found the answer. Cost. They never went into production but they made 10 samples. Shame, it's such a cool looking machine. So 80's yet not cheesy.

1 of those 10 was thought to be destroyed in a fire.

I don't think all of the pins still have all been accounted for yet.

Supposedly, a owner has one in the midwest.:)

  8. Did you guys know there is a Krull pinball? Like the arcade it was made by Gottlieb.

I would LOVE to own this! Unfortunately, only 9 (and it might be lower) still survive today.:(

  9. I'm the guy who plans to release the hacked version of Front Line to play with regular controllers. I should point out that unlike my other games, this will be a limited release of only 75 copies (with manual and custom controller overlays) and will be aimed at collectors, so no more copies of Front Line SCE will be produced even if there is a demand for it. For that reason, I plan to release the ROM for free (I will post it here on AtariAge) on the same day as the cartridge edition is released.

Eduardo Mello is in charge of hacking the game, but as you are probably aware, he is missing in action (again). He did provide me with a working version of this hack last October, and I must say the game is really fun to play with regular controllers. However, while testing the hack, I found a nasty graphic glitch that really needs to be fixed, and Eduardo has yet to fix it. This graphic bug is the only thing standing in the way of me releasing Front Line SCE (in both ROM file and cart form).

That's exciting news sans the Eduardo part.

Front Line was and still is my favorite arcade game of all time. I have most iterations of this game including the arcade upright.

Looking forward to your cart release.:)

  10. Two Tigers:

Is definitely one of my favorites.... I have vivid memories of playing one (dedicated) at a Perry Drugs < for you midwesterners.

For those who don't know, there is two versions of T.T. One dedicated with flight yokes and a tape that plays some ambiance sounds (machine gunfire, I believe); other version was a conversion for Tron. The latter uses a spinner as a control.

The user who posted the Youtube version has the dedicated gameplay. You can tell this by the antiaircraft guns on the ships. This version also has a throttle control for speed. The Tron conversion has the crosshairs that follow you around and doesn't have a 'throttle'.

  11. It was on eBay for several hours, so everyone had the chance to grab the lot. It's not like I had inflight internet.

I have to say I was a little bit surprised that no one else had bought it.

You act like we monitor Ebay every waking minute. :ponder:

I did have a "Sears Games" and "Math Gran Prix" on my search emails from Ebay. This was listed (unfortunately, for me) in a game lot. Grrrrr!

Sucks, I would've easily paid that BIN just for that game.... Woe is me
