The game that sucked me in was Smurfs at a kiosk in Montgomery Ward....I couldn't believe how in incredible the graphics were for it. I was mesmorized also by Rocky; the graphics of the fighters were beautiful!
A little story about the steering wheel accessory....So I ended getting a steering wheel cheap at a Sears surplus store way back when....Sans the box, instructions and no Turbo. So I get home trying to figure out how this damn thing works, I had Destructor % Dukes of Hazzard...After many tries the damn thing still didn't work so I just assumed this thing was faulty, keep in mind I was still little.... So just kicked of in the corner and it sat. Well one day just start to mess with it again and guess what? Yep, you guessed it the DAMN thing needed batteries!!!

This is another one I played on the NES first. Don't remember seeing it an arcade until about 5 years ago in a little dumpy Hotel in northren MN, it was not turned on at the time and I had to go so I never got to actually play it
I was considering making a conversion Renegade cabinet out of some parts I have lying around since I loved the NES one but now that I hear the difficulty is insane hard I might not bother, sounds more frusterating then fun, I get enough of that feeling at work - lolActually CC once you get used to the controls it's not that bad....The one I used to play was in a DK cab. Still wish this wasn't just a kit game.

As a matter of fact I do....Played the crap out out of this when it first came out....My high score is around 440k. When I first played it back then I always got my tail kick on the fourth stage- the bald guys with the knifes, for those who don't know one hit = instant death! As time went on developed a pattern and incorporated the jump kick more it became easier....Too bad there was not dedicated cab for it

Mappy-----I played this the first time it came out at a drug/pharmacy store called Perry Drugs I believe was in 83'ish...I can't believe this game was considered a flop from what I remember there was always people playing it. I remember being sandwhiched between a Kung Fu Master and a Bosconian.....And I do like not love this game; my buddy actually still has his
Bagman----First played this at my buddy's arcade we had in my small hometown in Il. I hate to admit it but back then I couldn't get into it and even now I have the same issue. Maybe too hard? Can't really say It wasn't my cup of tea. On a side note there was another classic Stern there at the same arcade that I loved... A little classic called Pooyan.......

Ive always loved rygar and I hated nintendo for years for screwing up a great game. I never understand how or why they never made it like the arcade. why did they always change the arcade versions when bought to the nes?
I actually thought the NES version was way better than the arcade....The arcade is simply Rastan ripoff!

As with many questions like this, the answer is..."it depends." If all you want is ANY box with matching title to put your loose cart into, you get one answer. If you want the SPECIFIC box that matches a picture cart or a specific version of a box, you would get a different answer. The Superman box is the latest-style box that matches the style of box that most Sears picture lables were found in. So if pic Superman was released in a box, it probably was the same style as the known Superman box. Cannon Man only has one known box style. Checkers has two box styles. Is one of the Checkers versions less common than either Cannon Man or Superman? Picture Blackjack box, 75602, is indeed much harder to find than 99805. The box for picture label Gunslinger 75109 is harder to find than the box for text label 75109. The same for pic Race.
I thought that all, or almost all, of the Sears pic label Superman carts had been found loose. Have more been found and just not divulged?
You do make some good points with certain box variations. As I am not a variant collector, I can't speak to those.
I wasn't into variations back then till recently....Don't you find a little weird that some titles had both a text and pic cart and some don't---maybe not found yet? Examples; Bowling-pic, Yars-Text, Target Fun-pic et al....I wonder what determined this?

I wouldn't disagree with you on that. Sears definitely has some sleeper titles in terms of rarity. For the longest time I put Superman ahead of Checkers - even though it would seem to me that, given the popularity of Superman, lots of copies would have been produced - and actually I never even considered Checkers to be that rare of a Sears box since I got mine very easily early on. It's only through discussion and watching the market for several years that I came to see what an oddball rarity it is. Maybe the same thing with Demons to Diamonds. The tough thing is that it is extremely difficult to know what's already in other collections unless people volunteer that information.
I agree. I'm basing everything I know off auction sites....It's weird that a popular hit like Demons would be hard to find consider it's popularity back then. I know that there were some families that were loyal Sear's shoppers and just get games there. My ambition would just know the production numbers for these and why some this are a mother to find!

I've one Math Grand prix so far within the last 3 years....On a sidenote this does not include private transactions; these are just based of auction sites/internet sites......
My feeling for boxes is:
1-Cannon Man
2-Math Gran Prix
3-Checkers
4-Superman
5- ?
Now, Shawn Sr. does make a good point with regards to Sears picture label Superman, which has to be the rarest Sears cart out there, but AFAIK there doesn't seem to be any documented differences in the Sears Superman box that would indicate the pic label went with a particular box. So let's reserve Superman pic as a special case which is mainly about the cartridge.
All of my Checkers (3 total, including 2 since January 2010) have come from eBay in mixed lots. I've seen 2 Math Gran Prix in the last few years, one which was listed solo (bid, did not win) and one in a mixed lot (got that one) this year. And then that Cannon Man that wakes me screaming nightly - oh, the agony - was a solo listing, the first I'd seen in years and years and years. Superman has popped up more recently than the other 3 in recent years, but that still isn't saying much when only 2 or 3 of a given title has been seen.

I wanted to bump this thread with my recent aquisition of a boxed sears checkers. I voted a r8 on this....I would say this is definitely one of the hardest boxed games to get!

I've always liked Frontline but just can't play it in MAME due to lack of proper controllers. It had this 8-way dial-type controller that was also a fire button when pushed. There's no way to emulate that on my cab with only buttons and a spinner {sigh}
Good choice....Also add Wild Western to that list! Can't believe 720 wasn't mentioned!!!!!

Very cool WK.......I have issues 4-7. I've been on a lookout for 1-3; I never realized Sega changed the name of original issues to the later! So after issue 7 I assume they changed the name of the periodical to Mega Play?

Twitch Aslylum was good....Too bad....They did seem to hint on their forum that things were winding down. Definitely had possibilities!
We Talk games is weak now. They trimmed the crew to just a one man show. They had a guy from the magazine "Die Hard Video Gamefan" which was cool
Retronauts is the best one to me. One thing though they got rid of Shane which was a mistake. The guy who replaced him is dull and offers no insight!

@Shadow It's in pretty good shape-The top flap is a little creased but other than that I have no complaints! It's the text version...Is there a picture label version???

My perception is that it is one of the more difficult boxes to find, especially since the Atari version is so plentiful, and this isn't a game that has a high level of recognition and/or collectibility. I think I got mine in a lot with other Sears titles.

After 10 loooong years I finally acquired a nice piece to my collection! Behold, Cannon Man! Picked this baby up on ebay a month ago. Total price- $30.00. I think I just got lucky cause I think alot of people must have missed this one. I just did a random search and found it. Even more weird was that a Sears Superman went for $200+....Back in the day, my family was Sears shoppers. Thank god my dad was really into video games so everytime we went we got a new game. I remember seeing a Superman and Checkers. Cannon Man however, never saw. Never new of it's existance till the early 90's! Now need a boxed Demons to Diamonds and a better boxed Submarine Commander! Anyhoo....Here is some pics!
