  1. So I took my handy-dandy Radio Shack multimeter to the power supply of my 7800 and it's outputing 13.6 volts despite being rated for 9 VDC. Anyone have any idea what the usual range is for 7800 power supplies? How about some idea about the internal components of the 7800 - do they tolerate over- or under-voltage well at all, or do I need to rig up/find/buy a new power supply before I give the machine a whirl?

  2. Perhaps the "01-01-70" is a print out of a test result using some piece of equipment without a real-time clock (the Atari manufacturing department equivalent of a VCR clock blinking "12:00", for instance).

BTW, I just got a 7800 off Ebay with a board dated 2784, s/n AT8427168, has the expansion port. Just FYI if you're still tabulating serial numbers. Set me back $51 with seven 7800 games (incl. a Copyright 1984 Pole Position II white label) and four 2600 games.

  3. Thanks for the tip! I think I'll give that a try. I recompiled the emulator using sdl as a target rather than x11 (per suggestions from the developers on [email protected] and, under SDL, I at least have sound. Unfortunately, the emulator is running full-screen and I really don't want that. I loved the fact that it runs as a windowed app under X11.

Thanks again for the information and I'll give it a try.

  4. I've downloaded and compiled Atari800 1.2.2 configured for X11 under Mandrake Linux 8.2 (using gcc 3.1.1 and kernel 2.4.18-6mdk) and everything seems to work except sound. Looking back over the compile messages I see that the pokey modules were included but beyond that I'm at a loss to do any real troubleshooting.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance . . .
